DEV Team for PVP
“Player versus Player? Why in the world would we want players to kill each other? We need them to spend money on the cash shop.”
If the PvP team works on both WvW and sPvP, it’s reasonable to conclude that their primary focus is WvW, as that represents a great, vast, massive majority of GW2’s PvP community.
So, maybe after the borderlands lakes are drained?
Priorities, what to do?

It’s ironic though, that same mentality should be applied to casual Spvp, make it fun.
Some Months ago i heard that A-Net has a DevTeam that only works on the PVP Part of the Game.
Its no Secret that there are no or only little changes in the sPvP Mode.Dear A-Net, pls tell us what they actually do for us sPvP-Player…
Some of us only play GW2 because they hope there are some new Gamemodes, Rankingsystem, Duelfunctions etc in the Future…
I can count 5 Players only in my circle of Friends who dont play because you dont make anything for sPvP!Tell us that u dont forget your PVP Players who supporting you since GW1!
Well, they revived the competitive scene from literally not a single team out there to something far better.
They balance the entire game around us.
The released spectator mode and made live casted tournaments possible.
They continually balance the game and keep it going in a good direction (it’s always a work in progress, this takes a lot of time to do properly)
They’re sponsoring a full 10k prize pool LIVE tournament…
Perma-finishers
While most of these things are geared for high-end competitive players, it’s kinda hard to ask for much else.
What I’d expect to see in the future:
Duo/trio/quad queues somehow made possible
Improved UI
Improved rewards (I’m 90% sure this will be coming, it’s been asked for too much for it NOT to come)
MUCH better balance
New (competitive) maps
More things to improve the new player’s experience
I honestly cannot believe they’ve done so much for us considering how small of a segment of the population that we are. Asking for MORE than what we’ve got is insane… I’m not too sure what else could be on the wishlist of a current player outside of a new game-mode (not gonna happen ladies).
Balance isn’t perfect, but they know what’s wrong as well as we do and it’ll get there.
@$20 an hour! It’s worth it!

PAX and torunaments and prize pools are cool, but what about the other 99,99% of Pvp players? What did WE get? A spectator mode to follow PvE guys stomping each other in a mini-wvw?
We can join in 3 different formats to play the same gamemode. I don’t even know what else should I ask for.
Permanent finishers are nice, but not content to play. They didn’t make any steps forward to make this game appailing PvP wise.
Pvp community is small, because if you get bored of conquest, you can leave or do PvE. If they don’t invest money, work and resources to improve PvP, why would the PvP community suddenly start to grow?
We were spoiled with 15-20 PvP gamemodes in GW1, I agree, and GW2 is the total opposite of what we were used to, and now we have conquest, which wasn’t even considered PvP back then. 90% of GW1 PvP players left after launch. And that 10% still gives at least the 30-40% of the PvP playerbase. They should start to care about their veteran-base or just provide content overall. Maybe they don’t have any kind of reasources, and Arenanet upper-level ones just keep askin “are we e-sports yet?”.
PvE gets something new every 2 weeks, we basically haven’t got real content since release. We got 4 maps, all of them are conquest and many players refuse to use 3 out of 4. We had to wait a half year for soloque and random map generator, all of them bugged.

1v1 2v2 5v5 deathmatch arenas…. i cant say it enough^^
I just find all of this amusing.
The reason they claim for not wanting to split skills PvE/PvP in order to balance is because “it would confuse players hopping between the two areas”, and then you take a look at the equipment gear: Valk, Knights, etc, and compare them for PvE and PvP: same name but different stats.

“What did WE get? A spectator mode to follow PvE guys stomping each other in a mini-wvw?”
dunno why but i love this…lmao
Anet, please make something crazy – create PTR and throw there new game modes, new maps, crazy additions to WvW and let people test it thoroughly. Just throw some money in it. After a while you will make money because you will earn new players.
Fill TP with useful or cool items and you will get your cash.
Expand PvP, kitten it! How can you shout to the world that you have PvP oriented game if you don’t put a lot attention to it. You do – I’ll let myself ahead of the answer: well, it just don’t show.
It’s like a garden – you can have good in the start but if you won’t take care of it regularly, it will wither.
I am certain that you love good matches. Imagine what matches would you get if you would properly take care of PvP (and WvW for that matter).
Just… listen to the veterans of GW1 and of PvP scene of GW2. They know best.
I honestly, for the life of me, cannot understand why Anet is being so silent about SPvP modes. I understand that this game has come a long way since launch, as many of its features were missing and therefore they had to catch up.
These are subjective opinions, but there are vast numbers out there that have in the past and present shown equal mindset: Conquest mode alone cannot sustain and maintan SPvP. Running from node to node creates a certain meta, this can get tedious over time, as with anything. Why not implement working ideas from GW1 or other games, like actual guild wars with objectives or deathmatch. We now have 7 maps with conquest, releasing more of the same type wont fix the issue.
Everything doesnt have to be so competitive for it to work, if it’s fun then it has gotten a good start.
Rest assured, if nothing is done when i.e. Wildstar launches, the game’s gonna take a hit. It is in their best interest to hinder the crash’s damage.
I used to be a power ranger, now not sure anymore
IMO, SPvP suffered most in the year that passed. It’s just not good, not rich.
New bigger maps are required with multiple objectives, multiple ways to win to make it interesting.
There are so many talented people in Anet, why do they just create the very basics…
Deathmatch would be enough… It makes the Conquest Mode more playable…because all Player who only want to Fight are in Deathmatch!
Maybe the PVP Team is the same who was working on that Login Problems @ start?
Wish u Guys a Happy Weekend^^

Have to disagree on a number of points. The game started out with a much higher competitive following which quickly tanked in the following months with a lack of features. There were a lot of teams looking for an esports title but that wasn’t delivered on release which obviously followed with them leaving.
Spectator mode was a poor early focus. It still isn’t in a position to really be a viewable game. There are many other factors that need to be addressed before spectating will work. Animations need an absolutely massive clean. UI is still lacking to give a better sense of what is happening and where and a stats report for casters and players to look at. It is still a long ways off being functional.
Balance, well maybe better than when block bug was rampant and svanir runes were widely used to cause random rallies. The rest of the balance improvement I can’t vouch for, in fact I have seen mistakes being done repeatedly. Big thing is counter play needs a much larger focus than what it has been given. Didn’t they even say they don’t have a team for balance and just leave the meta up to us?
One thing, did the PvP population start as such a low group of players or did that just occur because of lack of support? I wonder. They marketed themselves as a PvP game but at the same time assumed the PvP player base would be smaller and offered less resources to that side of the game. Seems a bit like self fulfilled prophecy to me.
They balance the entire game around us.
Where is the balance?
The released spectator mode and made live casted tournaments possible.
Eh yay I quess? Just who the hell wants to watch that mess is beyond me.
They continually balance the game and keep it going in a good direction (it’s always a work in progress, this takes a lot of time to do properly)
lol "continually " and " keep it going in a good direction" xD
They’re sponsoring a full 10k prize pool LIVE tournament…
Good for the 10 people doing that tournament, I quess. But why in the world should anyone else care? (It’s just a marketing stunt)
Perma-finishers
A very simple change that again adds next to nothing to the game.

Here is a picture of Anet TPVP team, when they were working on july 25 stuff.

I have meet them here and there. The last time, they were working on 5 warriors team with diversity. They weren’t good at rotating and they seems to prefer 2v2 and 3v2 fights.

“PvP is a work in progress. It takes time.” How bout 5 five years time? They stated they developed PvP with PvE and that development took 5 years to complete. Was that enough time for this work in progress?
gw2 looks like it’s only for casual players… a hardcore pvper have nothing to do with gw2 at all…
“gw2 looks like it’s only for casual players… a hardcore pvper have nothing to do with gw2 at all…”
You are wrong. Even casuals want nothing to do with pvp in GW2.
As a casual avid pvper, I stepped into spvp 4-5 times and never came back. Not because I sucked (I did ofc), but because it was boring as hell. How can I possibly muster the brain power to stay and learn the “intricacies” of the game mode when it takes everything I have to stay awake to do it?
Anet giving us excuses for not making new game mode is all bs. The real reason, based on my speculation, is because of the kittenedly limited skills we can equip at the same time…..therefore Range > Melee if there were any other game modes like death match…unless they make the actual arena super small so that range cant kite melee.
I give props to all the pvpers who stuck this long but really, its because you guys stuck so long that nothing has changed. If Anet found their pvp servers completely empty, they would have done something sooner….or at least shut it down and stop pretending they know what they are doing.
