Ive recently just started Daredevil. The class seems really fun to play with all the jumping. But people have said that thief is the weakest class currently. Why is that and is daredevil worth playing at all?

Thief is very weak because of multiple classes with very strong AoE pressure, especially condi pressure.
Daredevil has more evasiveness than a normal thief, but still suffers from weakness to the above.
Play it for fun in unranked, but don’t play it in leagues.

What is your goal? to win, to have fun, to master a class that fits your self-image?

Daredevil is a ton of fun, i play it because i enjoy its pacing and mechanics- you should play it too if that’s the case, but if your goal is to win realize that at times you will have to very much outplay your opponent to achieve results. Bad thieves and daredevils are a dime a dozen, trust me i keep their company, and all they do is cause a team problems.

There are a lot of reasons for this, but sufficient to say- the nature of the meta renders our ganking ability and teamfighting overall worse than a lot of other classes. We can still perform great, and at time be the tipping factor for your team, it just takes some attenuation of expectation and solid work.

I say give it a go, but be ready to practice a lot and get yelled at by randoms even more often.

Does thief really have anyway to counter hard condi?

I believe Toker showed that it can still win games, but the problem with current thief is that to be the tipping point requires you to be far better with thief than someone else could be with a different class for the same result. And eventually, you’re going to end up in a situation where you aren’t better enough to counter the class imbalance.

Daredevil is actually good but more situational and often just not as good as some of the meta builds. People are down on Thieves largely because in PvE all we bring is damage and in PvP, mobility and burst damage is frequently less useful against the defensive, team-fighting builds most players tend to play now.

It has surviviability issues. Core issues with the thief still remain. What it can do, generally others can do it and more. Niche is it’s mobility (in all modes), and maybe selfish damage in PvE…

Worth playing? Yes and no. Yes, because if it’s “fun”, go ahead and play it… who am I to stop ya? (I know plenty of people that kitten and moan that the thief sucks, yet continue to play it because they find it fun/most fitting for them) Yes, if you want to “train” yourself with extra weight on, to then switch classes and feel weightless… (if that makes sense). No, competitively in sPvP it doesn’t seem to be in a good place. No, because history shows that it won’t get any better.

An aside to those that say something along the lines of “Daredevil has more evasiveness than a normal thief”, I wish to point out that they’ve nerfed Acro trait line prior to release of the HoT. Prior to the release of the thief was just as evasive as DrD (maybe a touch less, since the staff… but trait wise…). Essentially, Acro was gutted/nerfed as a setup for the DrD spec.

Yeah that’s Toker though so those wins were from skill. Thief should be the best single target DPS class but have a very high skillcap to balance it out. So you’d have novice friendly classes that seem “OP” in low tiers but would be underpowered in top tiers (low skill cap so an intermediate and pro would yield similar results with it) and stuff that seems “underpowered” in low tiers but overpowered somewhat in high tiers.

No stability.
Rest is fine. But just this makes it a no go against most fotm specs.

4/6 lines that the thief has right now are in alright shape. Shadow Arts and Acro are in not so good of shape right now, and those are what would be considered more defensive lines. Thief is still fun to play, but I would highly recommend avoiding those lines until they are fixed. There are simply fights you’ll need to run away from on thief, typically against condi heavy builds. When starting out, you should avoid balanced fights as you’re more there to tip the scales in your team’s favor as a +1. That said, once you’ve become extremely comfortable with a thief and learned what to avoid and when to step in, you can be very useful. The thief is a patient class right now. Don’t go charging into teamfights, but rather pick off the low and out of position people skirting the outside.

Just because it’s not quite up to par doesn’t mean you shouldn’t play it if it’s fun for you, just realize it’s going to be a steep learning curve and frustrating for you and your teammates for a while, so I would wholeheartedly agree that you should learn in unranked for now.

The people who say thief is the weakest class are the ones that got so used to the old meta. These people also say S/D is a weak weapon set and Dp is the only way to go meanwhile you can use both, but nah, they made the assumption that bow is mandatory.

Thief is the only class that is only as effective as the way you play it because of how flexible it is. If you decide to play like majority of the thief population, burst then stealth burst then stealth and not bother learning how to evade, port and when, then you will be in for a rude awakening.
