I just want to know how dancing dagger did 12k damage to me. or whatever the thief threw at me.
The thief can spam it 3-4 times in a row and each time it’s used it will bounce to up to 4 targets. If only you and someone else are standing next to each other each attack will hit both of you twice. The problem is, every time the thief uses dancing dagger in succession, the daggers will be bouncing simultaneously causing big burst.
This ability is definitely going to be nerfed, as it’s just too strong.

Might be similar to Blade Trail bug but more reliable. Unless my eyes were deceiving me.
Yeah ,it was just me and a thief, I was just dicking around in pvp, usually im a survivor on my guardian, can survive nearly any 1v1 encounter. but this thief killed me in literally 1 second flat, he activated his quickness, threw the daggers really fast, i was downed, he stomped me while under that same quickness buff , and i was dead in less than a second it seemed.
Same thing happened to me today. It’s not a bug. They can spam dancing dagger from a nice distance and down anyone in a split second if they don’t have much toughness. It’s even more disheartening then backstab spam imo because it’s a ranged ability. My engineer was hit for 16k from DD, 4k from steal, and 3k from C/D.

This wouldn’t surprise me. When we were messing around with it it seemed to be critting for really disparate numbers. Like some crits would be more than twice as high as others on the same target during a single dancing dagger.
I love how people are just now figuring this out. (And it’s not a bug)
Basically on 2 people it will hit 2 times for massive dmg, spammed about 4 times in a row + Fire Sigil procs and every dmg modifier you can get.
Should hit for maybe 2500 x8 on 2 targets + Sigil Procs.
If you time it right you can 100% —> 0% 2 people in 1-2 seconds flat. It’s hilarious.
It’s also amazing against mesmers, people that use rock dog runes, ele with pet out, rangers, necro with a single pet out, etc. You you’ve ever played DotA before, think Lich Ult, but initiative and no long cooldown. =p
The build I used to use for it was a hybrid build with 30 in Crit, 25 in Shadow Arts, and 15 in Acrobatics.
2 Stealth Utilities + Shadowstep, P/D + Shortbow, Zerker Amulet.
2 Init on Stealth, 20% Deception. And might stacking from dodge and stealth. Basically you have as much stealth as you could possibly need to escape and come back to burst 2 targets whenever you want, with might stacking to beef up your dmg.
And another hilarious trick, Shadow Refuge + 2 init on stealth trait = massive init regen + Dark Field with Dancing Dagger 100% finisher. So spam DD til you’re out of Init, shadow refuge to instantly refill, and spam more for 100% lifesteal dmg component.
Also I’ve done Spider Venom utility with lifesteal venom trait to add extra burst to DD spam. Since bouncing skills only consume 1 venom charge but the effect is procced on each bounce it synergizes beautifully.

There is an occasional bug where the daggers will bounce off the air above capture points, allowing it to hit multiple times, even on single targets. Besides that, it’s just what everyone has said: DD rips through groups of exactly 2. This also makes it fairly deadly against rangers, and anyone using Ogre runes, as your pet or rock dog is an easy bounce target.

That bug with the capture point bounces happens any time the CP is owned by the other team. If it’s neutral or friendly it doesn’t work, but when it’s an enemy node the floating circle doodad above the point is treated as an enemy target for bouncing skills.
