Deafening Silence
You have to keep in mind that these forums have maybe 20 – 30 people complaining while there are hundreds more people just playing and remaining silent. I imagine the devs keep an eye on things and then act as they see fit, not always to our liking.
I think they are reading the forums and are aware of all the issues involving class balance in pvp. I honestly think they don’t know what to do about balance. And probably will keep making small insignificant changes every 6 months and hope to fix it all with the next expansion. It will give them a chance to make an overhaul for a lot of classes, if not all, and current systems in place. At this point, I’m not expecting any meaningful balance updates.
As much as I hate the huge gaps between balance patches, I hope its intentional. That at least means that the devs could do a comprehensive balance patch (or at least more often balance patches), whereas if the balance patches are so infrequent because they don’t have the time to balance it means that we will never get bigger and/or more frequent balance patches.
They have a terrible company communication policy. About the only thing they can talk about is acknowledging bugs. Explaining design goals is a no-no.

Wouldn’t want to see problems before they arise would we. ;^)

I’m agreeing a lot with ppl today. I wish they would open up their communication more to players. Transparency never hurt anyone that didn’t have anything to hide.
Sonya for females. (necro,rev,ranger,mes,engi)
All classes lvl 80.
I just wish they would release a real balance patch. We haven’t had a balance patch in what 5 months now? Start of season didn’t really count as half the professions were untouched and barely anything was changed. We already know February will not have a balance patch so when the hell will they actually balance the game.

FWIW, I’m looking into other possible stacking issues after dissecting the crap out of the substitutions problem.

And then there’s also
The new matchmaker is not worth risking game stability in a hotfix either.

….. And Elementalist.
Before ESL the PvP and class forums were listened to. Since Esports got introduced they only listen to pro leaguers, so the forums are just places to vent steam. Nothing said here influences PvP balance at all any more. That’s the truth.

Considering there were already esl and esport stuff in the beta week-end before gw2’s launch, i’d say that you are talking about a past that never existed.
I’m sure they are, remember how much response we had about the rating system ? The responses were on point and the problems were acknowledged.
I suppose they also need to implement things and not always answer on the forum.

Why you are deliberately trying to mislead people I’m not sure. But GW2 came out in 2012, the first tournament was 2014. I think it is pretty obvious that PvP is now balanced around Esport and pro-leaguers. Since usually what they say causes balance changes and things on the forums don’t. Even the major balance patches are spaced out so as not to conflict with touneys now, which was not always the case.

Well except in cases where people don’t have the maturity to handle it.
In the last mmo I played there was at least one case of dev’s families being sent death threats because the dev decided to be transparent about how class design was done.
Extreme cases aside. Developers see problems differently than players do, and disgruntled players are rarely interested in seeing things the devs way. We’ve seen this already on this forum with some of responses to Evan Lesh’s posts. We also see this in some of the absurd conspiracy theories player’s hold onto.
Silence is not good, but at the same time total transparency is asking for trouble.

I have found that in many cases of inbalance, not all mind you, it is a case of player skill and play style. Though there isn’t a huge option of skills and builds, some players spend hours, days, even weeks to perfect their spvp builds for each season.

Gw2 officially became a supported game by esl on august 17th 2013, and as far as i know, the first competitive lan event was the international all-stars in august 2014.
However, before the game even launched, there were already esport structures like paradigm, curse, denial creating teams in order to compete because gw2 was marketed having a competitive pvp. There were shoutcasted matches even before spectator mode was released.
And to keep things on-topic, blaming the esport scene for the balance is just silly. There was a big balance patch in the middle of pro league s2, right before the s1 finals and they were some balance tweaks in the middle of s1 pro league. The balance patches’ pace have absolutely nothing to do with the competitive scene.
Countless top tier competitive players have made countless balance suggestion that were completely disregarded. Anet have always done their own thing regarding balance. Or maybe you think that the pro-leaguers pushed for cleric to be removed, or necro to have auto corrupt on auto-attack, or to have thief auto-attack damage buffed by 50%, or told anet that buffing ele scepter auto-attack damage will make scepter ele viable in pvp?
