Every time I see a line from you in teamchat about how awful you think something is about the other team, all I actually think is “less talking, more fighting”.

Especially love the match I was just in where two of my “teammates” decided to chat endlessly about how horrible the thief was on the other team, because apparently that was easier than actually killing him. We lost by under 100 points in part because the other team knew to get the 8:30 buff and these guys didn’t.

Actually, I’m not a huge of this mentality either. Communicating is necessary for strategizing, which can play a key factor in helping a team win.

Don’t get me wrong, I also wish the Negative Nancys would pipe down and help rather than gripe, I’m just saying that helping doesn’t necessarily involve prioritizing “fighting” over “talking”, when both can be helpful.

The fact that the enemy team knew how to get the buff at 8:30 and your guys didn’t, has nothing to do with the fact that they identified a bad enemy and made some fun of him.

You can’t tell people to not type in a chat, when the chat exists for that reason. If you don’t like the team chat, turn it off. It’s one tick away. Don’t try to find false accusations to justify your grumpiness.

Strategizing is helpful talking. Exchanging rude epithets about the other team’s players not only doesn’t help anything, it makes it harder for those who want to use team chat appropriately.

Obviously I cannot control what others do. And suggesting I turn off team chat because some people abuse it is utterly thoughtless.

I just wish people would understand that the team’s goal is to win the match and that’s best accomplished by working to capture points and kill players, not scroll the teamchat with name-calling.

It’s utterly thoughtless that you assume that just because your goal is to win and focus only on that, everyone else should do the same. Some people play for fun and don’t really care about winning. Some people play the game to actually laugh and have a good time. If they’re enjoying themselves, in a manner that has nothing to do with you, in a chat you have no control over, you have no right to complain in the forums about that, in my opinion.

At the end of the day, maybe their opponent had a bad moment, just like they had a bad moment. The point is, they had fun, you didn’t have fun, or at least you don’t appear to. They won, you lost.

Well, actually, I have every right to complain about it in the forums, unless a moderator decides otherwise.

And what they said in teamchat does have something to do with me, because it showed up on my screen. If they wanted to trash some guy privately, that’s what whisper is for. The idea that I should turn off teamchat, making it impossible to communicate with my team, because a few people abuse the channel, is nonsense.

Frankly, given some of the names they were calling the other guy, I was being generous in starting this thread rather than just reporting them.

And I don’t have fun or not have fun based solely on whether I win or lose. Having to watch people clog teamchat with sex-related epithets rather than just playing — that’s not fun.

Lion’s Arch map chat shows up on your screen too, but I can assure you, it has nothing to do with you. At least most of the times I imagine.

You start the thread without shedding light on exactly how the situation was – you merely mentioned as an example that some random pugs in your team made fun of some opponents. Which, to a certain point of course, is something that’s happening in every pvp mode, in every online game and it’s absolutely normal to happen. You see someone going kitten mode, you laugh. If they really said such bad things, yeah, why not just report them? It’s also normal, recognizing when someone crosses the line and stepping up against them. But you apparently didn’t do that.

I’d gladly turn off team chat, or map chat, or any chat, if the conversation in there evolved into a monstrosity that’d annoy me to the point that annoyed you. If it was that bad, there wasn’t any hope in communicating with this team anyway. And that way, you ignore the people you disagree with, and keep having fun the way you want – if it’s not winning as you said, although in your starting post you complained about people not focusing on winning.

This would be a superb analogy if I were trying to coordinate a competitive PvP match with people in Lion’s Arch.

Hello average MMO player,

Players that actually played any game that requires skills can easily type and fight at the same time. Keep in mind that most specs only require you to press 1 button – 3 at most.

To OP: You need a zen like mentality when playing solo queue. Ignore any non constructive chat messages and continue trying to win the match. If you encounter people that are consistently idling instead of playing just add them to your friend’s list and dodge their queues.

I type running between points. I’m not playing solo queue to be your friend or anyone’s friend. I’m there to win, and if scolding people in map chat is what is required before my allies wake up, then I’ll do it.

I’ll ping the map for 20s straight or more sometimes until allies get the clue to go over there.

Sometimes I just vent though, but I don’t care.

Communication wins games.

Trash talking doesn’t, but if it’s lighthearted then it just adds fun.

(For what it’s worth, in other games I’ve specialised in playing a support class and providing intel, recon, or leadership, with good results for win ratios. I’m new to GW2 and haven’t figured out if this is workable here.)

I would just like to add something that might sound really whiny, but I just don’t like it when people start bashing people from their own team, often even in map chat. This usually occurs when playing solo arena. At least try to be considerate and not call out a fellow player as ‘noob’ or something for the entire map. People like that really ruin other people’s PvP experiences.

Why would it be? Because you want a competitive match with punishments for leaving? Because it has better rewards? Both of those reasons would be looking for a quality match, and joining such a match while performing actions to lower the quality seems counter intuitive.

So I must be missing something.
