3on3 and 5on5. 8vs 8 is already getting zergy.
If you have a huge match like 15 vs 15 ( way too much imo ) then your best bet is something like capture the flag. honestly frustrating though as you could never put together a consistant team for a game that size.
You mean ‘the best’ as in ‘what will be the most popular with masses’?
Easy to answer:
Put in 1v1, 2v2, 3v3, and 5v5. Let masses decide what is the most fun size to play/watch. Masses will tell you what is the best size by:
1. size of ques
2. size of audience of game streams.

not 1v1 please, its stupid… duel option is nice, but 1v1 as a real mode isnt…
i would go from at least 2v2 or 3v3 to 5v5
or what is more likely, i would go ONLY 5v5 and add it as a map with normal queues in random rotation…
separating players in more queues could cause quick death of some parts of spvp, just as paids
FFA DM! then make a giant forest map and increase the player base to 12.
well maxi, not 1v1 but just a private server for people to join there if they want to test or something.
most people join hotjoins for 1v1. and their getting followed by random people that disturb the duel.

3v3 and 5v5 would be perfect. Anything more than turns into a zerg seek and destroy instead of strategic gameplay. Classes that arent pure DPS lose their purpose in zerg fights. I loved to go 3v3 deathmatch in WoW and fighting really long matches thanks to all the strategies you could work out as a group. In gw2 you can just die in a second when few people target you at once, no time to cooperate… oh yes and if they will be putting deathmatch they NEED to add join as a party.
utopic comment: 5v5v5 DM with
- boosts like temple around the map
- something like king of the hill
or 8v8 gw1 style
DM with downed state would be quite interesting.
I suggest 3v3/5v5 in a map as big as foefire graveyard.
