When ANet introduced the very minor update of attainable gold in PvP in December of last year, Colin Johanson revealed that the PvP playerbase increased by 40%. Later on, he further added that the 40% increase persisted in the following months.

With the April 15 patch bringing far more substantial changes to incentive and progression to PvP than the modest amount of gold the Dec. patch brought, can any dev. share with us what affect it has had on player-base growth?

Thanks.

Seems like queues are way shorter since the 15th update. More players for sure. A lot of the top players will play in the tourneys but a lot of them have left. This meta isn’t very fun to watch or play in. Not a lot of excitement. I can’t imagine ToL 2 being anything other than ToL 1 which means very bunkery play and not a lot of big plays. Tactically, I think it works really well for coordinated and skilled teams, but that doesn’t translate into “fun to watch” at all.

My guess is that there are more PvP players right now due to the lack of PvE content and from a recent WvW season ending. The PvE people will leave once the LS stuff begins again.

More troubling though, is that I think the OVERALL number of gw2 players has shrunk quite a bit recently.
