Decided to give SPvP another go..
Hey man, it’s simple. Just use your defense skills.
Thing is, Heartseeker doesn’t actually hurt until you’re below 50% compared to what you could hit them for, so if they’re literally heartseekering from 100% health, just counterattack. If you have some form of CC, even better. Thieves that do a lot of damage also die more or less instantly, so any form of CC + damage will instagib bad thieves.
Hmm. Well you’re smart to expect some flaming, as heartseeker spam hasn’t been considered effective in PvP for over a year (since it got nerfed right after launch). Hopefully you’ll also find some helpful advice among the replies.
It would probably be good if you mentioned what profession/build you are using. That would help people be able to give you constructive feedback about what you might be able to do to overcome the 2 spam.
Also, I assume you’re talking about 8v8 hotjoin, in which case yes, 8 of any build spamming stuff will kill anyone very quickly. You might want to try some 5v5 servers (you can see the player limit by mousing over a server before entering) or some solo arenas.
Gotta agree with NevirSayDie on this one, HS Spam thieves are very easy to deal with in most situations, the exception being you have no cool-downs & are below 50% health, but in that situation any good player will kill you despite their build.

I think the problem a lot of people have with heartseeking thieves is that they wait until they are at low health to start spamming their defensive abilities, then they get stuck playing defensively until they die.
Heartseeker is weak when you have a lot of health, so pop cooldowns early on to prevent getting low. If a thief uses heartseeker on you when you’re at high health, unload on them with offensive skills. Your damage will outpace theirs if they start heartseeking too early.
It’s very possible to counter thieves, but they will seem very intimidating when you first start playing against them. I promise you that fighting thieves will get much, much easier the more you PvP and the more you learn about them. Don’t give up on sPvP just because of this.
Also, remember: The harder a thief hits, the squishier it is.
One of the best satires I have ever read.
Thank you for the laugh!
Sounds like a L2P issue.

This thread. Much grace. Such philosophy.
I’m not sure if you are trolling or not, but as mentioned above HS is likely the least of your worries in spvp. In fact, I think the skill needs a damage buff.
But anyway, in case you are not just pulling our leg, I would say:
1) HS can be more annoying in 8vs8- seriously try and get into 5vs5 servers if you want to spvp, I really don’t see why we even still have 8vs8.
2) Let us know your build, I’m sure someone can help you with making a solid build for spvp- although again in 8vs8 I don’t know how much it will help unless your build is particularly weak.
3) Remember that HS can usually only be spammed 3 times before a break to regain initiative, so try and dodge or use block against it (if you have it).
4) If you play spvp for a while you will find much, much more annoying/OP things than HS.
5) Roll a thief and just use HS, steal, and stealth; see how it goes.
So yeah, HS is pretty weak- flame, flame, L2P and all that
I can sympathize. The play of hot join can seem very shallow, and yes. thieves will abound. But what you should try before you go is to build defensively- too defensively until you can slow the game down a little bit and get your feet underneath you. Once you get a little more comfortable, then you can start to understand the dynamics and the plays.
Give it some time. Come in with an open mind and just look to learn. You’ll get there if you keep an open mind.
Dude, dude, DUDE! No one is going to respond well to this. Sword/dagger is getting nerfed (it is viewed as superior to dagger mainhand). S/D is accused as being faceroll easy while people are finally realizing that to be a great dagger thief you have to be quite skilled. I like other people’s advice of trying 5v5 hotjoin and speccing very defensively till you start learning how to defend and extend fights against thieves. You won’t learn anything if you build glassy enough to die in a few hits. Thieves are just an easy target to complain about, there are much worse things to be concerned with. I hope you don’t meet one of these soon to be buffed dps guards anytime soon!

Sound like thief needs nerf. It just isn’t fair that other profession players need to l2p when thiefs doing fine without any skills.

i can right now make a warrior and literary mash my face on keyboard and probably archive way better results than thief spamming heartseeker…
ppl who die to heartseeker spammers are ones that stand still and don’t do anything aka training dummies
the thing i don’t think OP is being serious…

Of all the classes to complain about you pick thief lol. I bet when you meet a spirit ranger you are like “hot kitten dude u got mad skillz”
If two monkeys fight monkey thief kick monkey warrior kitten because it’s much harder land some ground target skill than heartseekker.

as a ranger I usually just use knockback and deal dps on them after. works almost all the time. thieves are not that hard to beat but there are still some few exceptionally skilled.
the reason bunker builds exist is because of high damage backstab from stealthy thieves. try to make your build a bit tankier.
