I am just curious as to why we don’t get points for how long we defend a point. I have been playing a bunker build lately and even though I usually keep my point the entire time, and thus my team wins, I usually end up on the bottom of the leader boards. I mean my build is great for bunking but I get no points because I don’t generally kill hardly anyone, if anyone at all, or have to cap any points cause well I am standing on one I never lose. Seems like there should be some sort of reward system for bunkers and not just roamers.

Doesn’t matter the afker’s or the bunkers, there is always a way to prevent this, the current reward system is just horrible and almost all players are nothing but zerglings going A>B>C>A>B>C all games long with no sense of tactics whatsoever.
Oh, except on Capricorn where it’s actually A>C>A>C because most of them are too lazy to even pay attention to the ruins.

Currently spvp should be called zpvp as in zerg vs zerg.

It just has to change i’ve been into it since launch and every day it gets worse.

Try out 5v5s. Oh wait, they are all full of duelers because no one plays / knows about the 5v5 servers.

Whats your problem warpy, last I checked bunkers are a totally viable and crucial part of the game. Would you rather pvp be a bunch of mindless zergs running around with no real point? Oh wait thats what pvp currently is… And as far as people who are afk, they get killed and give points to whoever is smart enough to actually be capping points and then get reported.

I don’t care about hotjoins. They are, as you said, a zerg fests Don’t try to be a hipster and just roll a thief in hotjoin.

Either way, even if you play a bunker guardian in a tourney, you’ll still have to move off your node instead of AFK’ing because your team WILL lose team-fights when it faces the enemy 4v5 on other nodes.

Warpy I am sensing a lot of misplaced anger here, I mean no one was even talking about theif… Also I know that I have to leave point, and I do when needed, as does any bunker that is worth anything, but it still stands that I can’t receive nearly as many points when playing a defense role that is crucial in this game type. If the concern is mostly with people who are afk, which I am guessing it is by other non-warpy related comments, then perhaps reward a player points per a certain amount of time based not on total time just sitting there but only when in combat. That way bunkers are being rewarded for what they are actually meant to do, slow down there opponent as long as they can, without encouraging afk.

You don’t understand. You sitting on a node fighting nobody is not helping your team in any way.
Your team, on the other hand, is handicapped without you. And will most probably lose against a team that brings all 5 on a different node.

You have to realize that losing team fights causes a snowball effect because of the new res timers. It is extremely crucial to at least have equal numbers fighting at any point. And this won’t happen if the bunker says “HEY GUYS I’LL SIT ON THIS NODE AND DEFEND IT AGAINST NOBODY. DON’T BLAME ME IF WE LOSE THE GAME.”.

The high skill cap in this game comes through, not just you being good with your class , but also with having excellent map awareness and being able to have people ready to fight the enemy team with AT LEAST equal numbers. No matter how good you are with your guard/mesmer/thief/etc., against a good team you will lose a fight if you are outnumbered. You have to leave a capped node defenseless if you know your enemy is going to zerg some other node with all 5. This is the only reason why top tier teams destroy everyone else 500-200: good map awareness and rotations.

Okay I will admit I am fairly new to pvp, what about the new res timers gives zerging an advantage? It seems like it should be a much bigger problem that they are encouraging zerging than anything. In a real conquest mode it seems like the team with the best defensive strategy used to slow the other team down mixed with the use of roamers to capture points the zerg is no longer defending and reinforce the defense of points that are not 5v1 would be the team that should have the advantage. Generally when I see that my team is having trouble capturing points I do leave my point and go on the offensive, because due to the time it takes to take me down I can at least distract a player or two long enough for my team to move the numbers in our favor. But that being said I still believe that some reward should be given to bunkers, not all teams zerg and defending a point the entire game from a constant barrage of attacks has won my team several close matches. Its not like im sitting on my butt the whole time doing nothing, that’s just what the leader boards suggest.
