As I was watching Helseth try to work his way through emerald duo queuing last night a terrible thought came to me: it only gets worse for him the further he goes.

He is still playing with the comfortable stop gaps of emerald tier so yeah it’s terrible to lose two pips on a win but he hasn’t gotten to the point where he could drop tiers as a result of something like that. There’s still a limit to how far he can fall.

So we’re potentially talking not just about hours worth of work lost but maybe even days worth. And the sadistic thing is that the game’s MMR system is trying to give him losing games. I find this to be extremely demoralizing because if someone of his caliber is having to struggle like that I can only imagine what someone of my skill level will have to endure.

Yup, wasted an entire day yesterday only to end up where I started- zero pips. Guess I need to finally l2p now.

Apparently, you need to l2p MMR.

Idd, the worst ranked design I have ever seen in an online game. Anet did it again.

Why didnt they make a test season during november? I will never understand that.

l2p will only help you temporary, since matchmaking will try to give you a 50% win/loss rate. So whill you can improve the mmr system will then match you with more skilled players making your effort almost useless. Better is to find a point where you can’t drop, form a loser league group and lose a couple of 20 matches and then smurf your way to the next save point. Rinse and repeat.

Yeah, I figured at some point that coasting through Amber on a bit of a streak probably wasn’t a good idea :s this system is really, really awful.

Still, that aside, I might end up eternally stuck in emerald, but maybe the coming weeks of trying to defy backpack farming rallybots vs premades will make me a better player or something.

How many losses do people recommend before you push for a win? Personally I don’t see myself getting far into ruby, its upsetting enough losing pips, let alone tiers.
