Devs' "vision" for the game
What confuses me is that the buff/nerf bat swings heavily and slow, instead of swift and light. If they want esports, doing a balance every other Friday of 2-3 bugs (good god, Thief alone is buggy. don’t get me started on runes/sigils) along with small shaves or lathers related to 1-3% changes would be much healthier. Don’t go collecting data for MONTHS, just go “hmm, ok well this trend has been here a while- maybe tapping that max target from 5 to 3 would be a good start”. Doesn’t have to be all classes either.
But thats me. The vision is unclear to me as well, and I play a lot of oddly balanced games- but I can make sense of a direction and heading. GW2 is…confusing. Laugh about Guards getting stealth, give it to them. Say Thief won’t be an assassin, then give them damage buffs over utility/bug buffs. Warrior is meant to frontline, but Necro is the tank. Revenant is supposed to be a god, but we need him to be on everyone’s level. Ele isn’t good, give them cele then take it. No offense, I’m just as baffled as you Glen.
Honestly I’d say after the 26th, look at the 7th for small changes. Small ~number~ changes. And just go off like that, while talking it over to your playerbase. :C Is my dream anyway.
Huge change coming….
To soon to be communicated…
Is where we want it to be…
Not aligned with our vision ….
Anet is used to communicate like they had a planned and consistent vision of their game.
Facts however…
Look at the current meta…look at the drastic changes coming that will lead to several classes butchered.
I remember before hot some devs claiming that their vision for the guardian was some close combat fighter providing support to allies….guardians then got dh…ranger pewpew with traps and selfish virtues. Lol.

Their vision is foggy at best.

Selfish virtues? Do I play a different DH to you? F2 virtue is team orientated, aoe heal, regen. F3 has a projectile block and aoe protection and stability.
Well they could already start with actualling “COMMUNICATING” with their community instead of to their community… you know, so that we can know, at least, what they expect each class’ role to be. The way meta come and go I feel like they don’t even have a clue themselves
In their latest posts, the devs have mentioned how the current meta doesn’t align with their “vision” for PvP. What exactly is their “vision”? The biggest thing I gleaned is that the pace of the game is too slow (something which has been painfully obvious), but I want to know more about their vision.
I understand that they may be reluctant to elaborate because they do not want to stifle player creativity, but I would very much appreciate them giving us at least a general gist of what sort of roles and builds they envision each class playing, from the horse’s mouth. Maybe that way, people can at least have realistic expectations when discussing balance.
Devs, you out there? Humor me pls?
The current PvP meta has been meta since two weeks after HoT launched, almost a month before ranked season began. I watched metabattle.com every day and remember these builds rising up to meta. It was very clear going into this ranked season that there was a major problem with the meta and it wasn’t enough of a priority for them to delay the ranked reason, stop Elite Specs from being in ranked, etc.. They had many options at their disposal to put the integrity of the game first, to value integrity and balance over novelty and appeasing the less serious crowd. It’s very clear the integrity of the game is lower priority to ArenaNet than delivering content on schedule so If the current meta doesn’t “align with their vision” they sure did take their sweet time figuring it out.
Anyone else tired of their politically correct responses to the community even when things are horribly bad? It’s all seems quite deceptive to me. It’s a play out of the Apple Computer playbook. “deny there is a problem… just fix the problem when you can and move forward”. Whatever works for them I guess.
The dev’s vision of the game seems to consist of courtyard, with no caster classes played and no defensive ability. Just pound buttons and lots of cool “Finish him!” type death effects.
I dont think they even know what their vision is
GW2 PvP has had at least 2 major facelifts since release and a number of other changes and balances along the way. During that time they’ve had a number of different people heading this up within the PvP team. So basically different people with different ideas for their vision.
About the only thing that hasn’t really change is their overall vision of being taken serious as a serious PvP game mode.
