Diamond Skin will SAVE this game!
YOUTUBE.COM/VOZTACTICS
It will stop cheesy condi specs and push the game into a quicker power meta. Finally we can break out of this stale meta and force people to spec more glassy with burst. Not only will mesmers, eles, and thieves make their stand in the meta once more, but the game will become much more enjoyable to play and watch. Great idea with Diamond Skin, ANet!
Cheers,

Will it stop warriors? If not it will not change the meta at all. Give ele perma stability over 90% health would be more help lol

Yeah im sure we will see 5 ele teams
I think Condis are gonna be team fighters only, which is more appropriate since Power v. Power 1v1s are a lot more risk/reward on side nodes.
Also, classes that previously did not use anything but Condi damage builds are gonna have to adapt and learn how to play more Power oriented stuff, which is better for build diversity and will honestly make them much better players than they were.
These Necro “experts” think the new heal is gonna suck, but I’ve got a Vampire Necro build cookin that might be pretty strong 1v1.

I am sure the people at rank 45% are quaking in their boots at the thought of your new build bro

And you have no idea what a Blood Soul Reaping build is capable of with the new heal yet. Don’t worry people who think might give you something to play Necro with after your 200,000th QQ thread when your Condi build becomes absolutely godawful 1v1 against Mesmer, Ele, and Warrior…
I respect that you’re ranked highly, but I don’t respect how childish you get about something you have no idea is good or not and how whiny you are in general. The patch comes out next Tuesday we’ll see if the theory and potential of the non-existent build falls through or is successful…
(edited by jmatb.6307)
D skin would save the game if it’s strong enough to be viable.. We’ll have to see.
Let’s hope some arcane ele falls out from the Tuesday patch that can run this build effectively.
I may even theorycraft and post a build just to upset everyones favourite rabid necro..

all class should get diamond skin^^
and stunimunity or better warriorimunity

Not sure if troll or serious. I hope you are trolling.
now the real question is what kinda ele will spec 30 into earth
[Mada] Apocryfia
bunker ele
15chars
Chars : Exa Flare | Exaflare | Aurora Wall | Aurora Sword | Azure Flame God

This is actually the part of the patch I really like. Basically, after this patch you have to theorycraft to stay competitive.
Players who can’t think of any way to revise the standard copy/paste builds stand to get demolished after this patch, and I’m not so sure that’s a bad thing. I suppose that in a few weeks, new builds will be popular and they can just copy/paste those, but I think overall the meta will be shaken pretty hard.
That is what we want, right?
I’m actually not trolling btw, being completely serious.

If the condition meta was a problem, the solution was to nerf the conditions or make them less accessible. Instead, they introduce very specific things to the game that makes you able to deal with the meta. Berserker stance? AED? Diamond Skin? Defiant Stance (not sure about this one though).
So, explain to me, how pigeon holing the eles into the diamond form build would “save” the game?
Imo the solution is a boon that counters condi dmg, just like protection counters direct damage. It doesn’t have to be new boon, could be regeneration or stability. Or even protection itself.

It’ll make people not run cheesy condi builds in fear of running into an ele that is playing this spec. To counter the ele, burst damage is needed. In relation, there will be a rise of power builds and a new meta will form around power and burst. Staying condi based will not suffice because of this new counter.

girl the way you movin, got me in a transsss
People that think diamond skin is going to change the meta are funny.
how hard it is to bring down an elementalist’s health from 100% to 89% anyway?
i tried playing one and died within seconds.
the only thing I can think of that diamond skin might slow down is dhuumfire/terror necros, but even then it just means different skill rotation until they’re at 90%
It won’t be impossible to get them down to 89%! Most people just won’t know how cause all they do is run cheese all day
Let the endless QQ barbarian Ele OP threads soon begin!! :o!!

yes! shift the attention away from warriors please.
i wanna continue enjoy playing my warrior in sPVP.
that until killshot becomes meta, then back to warrior QQ
Apex predators need to die. There should be no apex predators in GW2 PvP, and diamond skin will help with that.
Warriors are strong because that is the nature of melee. You can’t put a cardboard sword and styrofoam shield into a Warrior’s hands and send them off into an enemy team expecting them to succeed (circa September 2012 to October 2013). Give Warriors access to scepters, staffs, and shortbow with spammable 900-1200 range abilities and then we can talk about “shaving” melee. Otherwise, the return of tank Eles will be the saving grace that keeps Warriors in line.

I am for it, as per the reasons you stated. I also do like how it’ll force condi more into a team fight scenario.
However I am still against Rock, Paper, Scissors build-v-build hard counter play. However something like this CAN be a lesser evil from the current.
“Maybe I was the illusion all along!”
too bad ele’s are still terrible. that’s like using scholar runes and saying bunker d/d is the best build ever. Takes 2 life blasts for diamond skin to be rendered useless, not to mention mesmer phantasms can easily do 10% of your hp.

Diamond skin won’t really be useful. Its a 1v1 skill that counters builds not useful in 1v1 fights (necros). It doesn’t stop rangers from killing ele (one hit from a pet, or 1 proc of storm spirit), and certainly doesn’t stop engies who have good power damage on all their condi skills.
Besides, bunker ele can’t kill anything, and can’t get away from anything, so its not a far-point assault (You would be better off with bunker engie, which doesn’t work well at high levels). In team fights, ele goes well below 89% just from residual damage, or a harsh glance from anybody packing more than the minimum power.
The rising tide is Mesmer QQ, and it will come crashing in like tsunami. Grab your swimmies now so you can float in the river of tears!

What are you on about. The trait system and amulet system is utterly restrictive meaning that theorycrafting in this game is all but absent. 95% of people will know within 15 minutes what the best builds are and then will run them.
Diamond skin might not work well. I dont care. But it is lame. And it is yet more potential power creep. Even if it isnt broken this patch, it is almost inevitable it will be broken eventually.
Another thing with theorycrafting currently, is that even if you do manage to theory craft a coherent build – it doesnt work when you play. You will spend all day perfecting a build that you have create. Then you queue for a tournament and a s/d thief annihilates you whilst you can’t even hit him. Or a warrior regens everything you do to him whilst inflicted massive damage AND cc with 1900 toughness.
That is the thing. Power creep has proceeded at such a pace that theorycrafting is so pointless because the whole meta is just stifled out by broken skills and traits which give immunities, massive regen, endless evades, or massive damage. Another flat immunity trait is certainly not going to make more builds viable and help theory crafting. It will just be more of the same. More of “Well I cant run this because everyone is immune to it”. And less of “I want to play this and if I am good enough I can make it work”.

Diamond Skin can work, though the Elementalist will have to use several cooldowns just to keep it running. Cooldowns they won’t have later in the fight.
Nobody would pop a 2k heal with 500 HPs missing on their Elementalist. With Diamond Skin, you will have to, if you want to keep taking advantage of it and that “overheal” will be missing once you run out of cooldowns and drop below the threshold for good.

Condition builds weren’t cheesy. They became so thanks to them getting over-buffed. Getting forced into a certain build to be able to hold off against the cheesy builds is not really a solution in my opinion.

Having 100% uptime on Diamond Skin is not important, nor is it necessary for the trait to be useful. It’s like a Guardian’s blocking. It can happen suddenly at any time, and no amount of anticipation can counter it. This is how Diamond Skin will be useful. The Ele can suddenly have immunity to conditions at any moment, which can waste important cooldowns from opponents. Warriors can no longer Pin Down (immobilize + bleed) an Ele whenever they feel like it, because Diamond Skin can kick in and negate it. Same with many other classes’ abilities.
Diamond Skin encourages anti-face-roll gameplay, basically.
I think ppl are overreacting to this Dskin. Considering that it will work over 90% hp and that 10% ele’s hp ~ 1.5k health i think it wont be that good.
About the fact that this trait could “waste important cooldowns”….
1) once u know it has Dskin, u see he is full health, you know the trait is active
2) conditions are rarely on cd u cannot waste, thats the problem of this game, even if u waste them you can spam something else and once the cd is up blow that too.

That makes no sense, whatsoever. Smart Elementalists will try and stay above the threshold from the start to reduce overall damage tremendously. Dropping below the threshold opens you up to way more damage in just a split second than the overheal you lose from working the trait as frontloaded as possible.

I disagree. I predict we’ll see good new builds surfacing for about one month after the patch; then things will become “settled” again.
Sure, people will post threads by Dec. 11th about how awful the new meta is and all they see is build X anymore. That doesn’t make it true.
Basically, you’re saying that necro really does only have one build, staff/sd rabid, and that after the patch they will still only have that one build. And that eles using DS will be able to compete vs. thief and warrior.
