Difference between ranked and unranked
“A rose by any other name would smell as sweet, so [ranked] would were he not [ranked] called.”
- Colin Johanson (or someone along those lines)
During a “ladder season” ranked arena keeps track of your win/loss record and ranks you on a leaderboard. As of today there is no ladder season, so as for being a “ranked” arena it is a bit misleading because you aren’t really being ranked.
For now, the only difference is that ranked doesn’t include Spirit Watch, Skyhammer, or Courtyard maps. That, and some players have unofficially decided that ranked is a bit more competitive and players have a tendency to be slightly more skillful (according to some, that’s very subjective).
Also, ranked and unranked have separate MMR ratings, so you may find your matchups vastly different depending on how you perform over time in each arena.
Sometimes, you’ll get matched up with better players in Ranked. Sometimes, I have no idea what is going on and feel like I am playing hot join, bodies everywhere, and Svanir is eating a teammate alive.
