Am I the only one that thinks that skills should have different effects depending on the game mode your are playing? (PvP – WvW – PvE )

In GW1, some PvP skills had slightly different effects compared to PvE. The differences tended to be in damage, cool-downs, duration, etc. Basically, the same skills, but with slightly different variations.

Anet doesn’t seem to realize that some people actually only play 1 time of mode, and don’t give a kitten about the rest (like me xD) and get very piss and drop the towel after skill changes which are either drastic or useless

The forums are saturated with people that find game play very unbalanced after updates, since they are trying to change skills across the board to fit 3 different game modes. It’s unpractical when you actually look at it in detail. :L

They already do this. For example, Guardians’ Save Yourselves ability is 10 seconds in PvE and 5 seconds in sPvP. Some of the changes they made in yesterday’s patch were the same way. Some Thief abilities were nerfed in sPvP but not in PvE, etc.

The only thing I think is wrong with their current implementation of this concept is that they treat WvW as PvE, which seems totally contrary to common sense, since it is, by definition, PvP. I understand this is a limitation caused by WvW maps being considered PvE maps by the engine, but I hope ANet will find a workaround, because it’s not very intuitive.

Well ideally it shouldn’t really be necessary. I mean we don’t really have cutting edge PvE content in GW2 (even with the new FotM), especially not competitive PvE, so perfect profession balance isn’t really required for that aspect of the game.

I believe it should be possible to balance a game primarily around PvP without impairing PvE too much.

But ANet has already given up on that stance by making abilities function differently in both environments. As noted however, the only outliner is WvW which is currently still considered a PvE environment.
