The rules on digitalprosports say that you need to sign in your team by 8:15 pm “eastern” or you will not be allowed to play in their tournaments. The tournament games begin at 8:30 pm “eastern”.

Tonight we signed in our team earlier than 7:40 pm “eastern” for a digitalprosports tournament. All five players were signed in and ready to go. Digitalprosports ignored us until 8:55 pm “eastern” when they informed our team that we had signed in too late and could not participate “which doesn’t make sense by their own rules”. Not only this but they did not air their matches live on twitch as they said they would and their website is an uninformative mess that is difficult to navigate or even find information on.

Our teams have never had this problem with Battlefy competitive tournaments, which were nothing but organized and clean.

Yes, that’s the automated message you get confirming you signed up. But the rules state clearly under “Event Info” in bold that only 16 teams who register will be entered, based on first come, first serve. Signing up at the last minute for a event that consistently fills up completely is going to mean you probably wont get in. IF you read the email you just posted, it says thank you for registering and that youll be contacted. It says nothing about you being on the bracket. Im not sure why you werent contacted until 9pm but Id imagine its because you registered at a point where the bracket was already being generated and the 16 teams that signed up last week were being placed on the bracket. Im just providing you with the best possible explanation. I wish AG could expand the size of the tournament, but a larger event is not possible at this time.

It sounds to me that AG even though having the permission to run all this and stuff I get that but really come on. They should of obeyed their own rules and let you in because they even said you got in and you were on time. But waiting till 9pm when nothing had been said to finally saying oh you’re not in anymore, because you signed up too late when clearly you did. Is just uncalled for and just plain rude to the player who is affected by this nonsense.

That doesn’t make any sense
You don’t have any way of viewing your brackets “how would we know if it was full?”
And you sent us a confirmation e-mail that said we were registered
Also if what you say is true, you should have immediately told us it was full
No one told us anything about a tournament being full
Even at almost 9:00 pm “after ignoring us” you told us “that we signed in too late”
You did not say anything about a tournament being full

This looks like you’re covering up sloppy administration with your responses

I apologize but the TO’s at AG do the best they can to provide a weekly tournament on limited resources and manpower. The issue was that we weren’t notified at all about it being filled. We would have have no problem with a simple “hey guys, thank you for you interest in joining the AG Weekly Tournament, but we have locked in our 16 teams for the week so make sure to check back next week.” but we didn’t receive anything until almost an hour later. I could not reach out as I had a storm knock out my power/Internet (East Coast has that huge storm) so the site had the co-captain’s name/username/email there so we were thrown off by not being notified in any way shape or form… Our co captain came into AG’s team speak to ask about what was going on and got no info after many attempts of joining and asking a moderator. When we got any info back they gave us false info.

We were registering on your website and visiting your TS over and over until 9:00 pm, when you informed us “we signed up too late” not that “the tournament was full” but the point being is that if what you say is true: the issue is that you should have informed us correctly rather than let us sit for an hour wondering what was going on, after sending us a confirmation e-mail that we were registered.

~ Not to mention, there is no way to view your brackets “how would we know?”

You did not inform us correctly, you ignored our team until 9:00 pm
And told us that our 7:56 registeration vs. your own rules of 8:15 required registration was “too late”. Again, if what you say is true, make sure you communicate it.

It’s ok, we don’t have a problem with not playing

Here’s my 2 cents to that. You had no reason for this to be complicated. You only have to talk with 1 captain who will notify the team about this stuff. There is no reason you shouldn’t have gotten back with them, its not like you’re talking with 100’s of people. Also you should be more organized again with what I said 1 guy to talk to per team, you could of easily dealt with 30 teams if that. 16 is not much when you look at it. You are just making you’re self look ignorant and a bad admin.

When they said “too late” they meant too late due to many sign ups. I apologize for any miscommunications that happened between your team and the TO, but I assure you, nothing was shady about what took place despite how it may have appeared. Id actually like to hear your feedback on the site itself. Now that ToL3 is done, we’re in the process of reorganizing it. Email me any concerns/thoughts at jczech@digitalprosports.com. Again, Im sorry this issue occurred. We put Academy Gaming NA and EU events on the site about 3 weeks in advance to give all teams time to schedule and prepare to sign up. Due to the rise in popularity of this event, we normally hit our cap late sunday night, early monday morning but form a waiting list. I don’t mean to sound hateful or disrespectful. Actually, I feel the opposite, but I quite preferred the battlefy/challonge system, compared to the DPS website.

The website isn’t as transparent as battlefy. When you signed up on battlefy, you could see that you were signed up, who the opponents are, how many teams, players, etc. You could also easily make changes to your roster if needed and receive automated notifications.

I’d be happy with the DPS website if it carried the same functionalities as battlefy or challonge and I have a feeling others are in the same boat.

Again, I greatly appreciate the efforts of the shoutcasters and DPS for hosting and running these tournaments and hope this comes off as constructive feedback.

Thank you guys!

Thanks for the feedback, definitely came off as constructive and helpful. Its something we’re prioritizing internally.

If you think coordinating with 16 teams is easy, you’re nuts. You don’t just get to whisper people “Hi. You’re in the tournament. Here is your arena. Have fun.” You’re constantly fending off whispers from various teams asking about the rules, changes in their roster, what color their pee was that day, and why their wife is leaving them. You get distracted. I agree that you should have been contacted due to the fact that you can’t see sign-ups on their site, but there are better ways to criticize volunteers than this hostility.

All the organises are a joke. Played a few tournaments and had to wait around many times for ages whilst someone was afk and the organises dont have the balls to apply their rules ever. This also hurts their twitch viewers as they end up with 4 hour streams showing 6 games of gw2. The rest of the time they are waiting for someone to stop being afk.

That is why there is literally nobody with a real life who plays those tournaments. Because people with real lives dont want to wait around for 3 hours to play a game.

They should set times for all the rounds. And if teams are not there by then the game starts anyway. Sure you might be a few joke tournaments initially, but after that both attendance and viewership would increase.

My advice is that if you generally dont revolve your whole life around gw2 then all these tournaments will just be frustrating and lame. Mainly because the organisation across the board is so lax

I can assure you that no one is waiting 3 hours to play one game. It would help a lot if you could give an example of a time where you’ve waited for a long time to play your match, otherwise I won’t be able to look into why this is happening.

Check any of the streams of events. I gave up watching a long time ago. 90% of the time Jebro (not his fault I am sure) is saying “And we are waiting for this player to ready up before we can start”. There are many times he is saying this for 10+ minutes. It is utterly ridiculous. And that is whilst the stream is up only. I am pretty sure I have seen times where they are waiting 20 minutes for people to ready up.

I had similar experiences ages ago when we played a few of the tournaments. There is zero that ESL do to stop this.

The players should be told that their game is due to be cast in 5 minutes. They should then have to be in game by that time. If they are not then they should force start the game. The players take the kitten during ESL and the result is that the tournaments take too long for people who have busy real lives. Which believe it or not, is a ton of people.

You get distracted. I agree that you should have been contacted due to the fact that you can’t see sign-ups on their site, but there are better ways to criticize volunteers than this hostility.

let me tell you something about “community volunteering”. Back in 1996 when online gaming was first becoming hot, I was 13 years old and became involved in Ultima Online and Diablo 1. This was long before the days of esports and making company money through website hits. It was long before any of these games had any reward for player vs. player beyond “people having fun doing it”. I became involved in helping other community volunteers organize extremely large scale tournaments for these early games. “Remember that in 1996, you had 3 games to choose from, not 3000 so the player density in these games were enormous.” I remember logging in to Diablo II during the early days and seeing anywhere from 75,000 to 150,000 users online right now, east server as example" and of course these early games had no in-game structure for matches so we had to have moderators in every game and/or map to watch what was going on “community volunteers”. We had to create our own in-game match style structures. Now this was difficult indeed because many of these early games were broken and many special rules needed to be put in to place to keep things balanced and every player had their own views on what was broken or what was not “as you can see similar views in the GW2 forums” and it was very difficult to set rules that everyone could agree on but we managed to do it anyway. We even managed to get enormous player basis to agree on self-regulated match types as well as the idea of being honest and legit. This was quite a task indeed back when the bulk of the first gamers were only 16 years old. We had to do all of this in-game and through forums. The beginnings of all this was even before the first recognized and used voicechats. Needless to say, much time with text communication was very testing on your stress, elongated and required much patience. We won’t even mention the possible errors in communications due to lag of response through text. But somehow we never had errors, why? Because we gave a kitten about running a clean ship.

I loved helping with community organization and I still do to this day. That is why I have always been very active with these sorts of things through every game I have played from 13 years old, to now 31 years old. Primarily: Ultima Online, Diablo I, Diablo II, Guild Wars 1, Guild Wars 2 “and don’t you dare cliché me with comments on being jobless or living in my parents basement. I more than likely make more money than you do between barbering and being a docketing-clerk”. I even helped organize many Super Smash Bros tournaments in our local town, while helping promote the small businesses that were hosting them. Was I making any money doing this? No. Usually I was dipping in to my own pockets to help provide some kind of a prize pot so we could get guys together and have some fun. Was my face on a twitch? Was I accumulating followers to help my website/stream hits? No. Never really cared about any of that. Having a good time was always the priority.

I whole heartedly respect the companies and community volunteers who are taking the time to organize these tournaments. This is not being said simply to make our complaint thread look kosher, I am being serious and I understand in full what it requires to organize such events on a frequent basis. But if you want to try and belittle someone like me, make sure you know who you are talking to first and if you want to defend a company “that claims a professional esport organization” you had better make sure they are doing a better job than I could. What happened last night was a mistake that I have never made in over 15 years of community volunteering and moderating much larger margins of player base than Guild Wars 2 spvp has ever seen.

It’s time to let this thread die now
As it is not lucrative for anyone
I probably shouldn’t have posted anything at all but last night we were very kittened off
