Q:

Will there be a direct exchange between glory and gold or do we have to spend our glory on “old” skins when the vendor comes out?

There will not be a direct glory to gold conversion.

Could you perhaps go more into detail? I’d like to know as well if I should keep my glory or spend it now on skins/chests that I don’t really want but at least it will be better than nothing..

I’m not at the office at the moment, so I can’t speak for 100% certainty, but here’s a snippet of the blog:

Once this new system is in place, glory will be retired as a currency, and gold will be the standard currency across the game. All existing glory vendors will be removed at this time. We will give advance warning when this is coming so you can spend all of your existing glory before that happens.

Essentially, the vendor being added on December 10th is a temporary outlet for you to spend your glory until our long-term systems are in place and glory is removed.

So in the end the only thing I can buy is this new chest thing due to the fact that I dont have any gold as a PvP player.

I could win a lot of games for gold to buy the skins I want but how much time will that take?

Probably a good decision considering some people exploited millions of glory.

In other words… In the future, every simple cof farmer will get hands on everything pvp will have to offer? Because they won’t be obstructed by glory anymore. Or will there be any constrain?

No. This vendor that requires gold and glory is going away when the actual progression system comes out. Then you will have to PvP for unknown reasons to get the gear.

The vendor requiring gold and glory to buy pvp items is more than baffling.

I hope that this will not be the case. The new rewards/progression stuff they said they aren’t ready to talk about yet might be the sort of constraint you are looking for IF the existing PVP skins (which will not be MF craftable anymore since PVP MF will be abolished as stated ) can be bought with gold.

I’m not entirely sure where we’re really heading with this since like you, I’m also worried that PVE players can just hop in on PVP and buy everything with their stack of gold once glory is removed and gold becomes the universal currency. THAT would be a total ripoff to the hardcore PVP community. However, I’m hoping that the new system they will implement can at least iron out the items and currency system we have right now:
- WvW players can buy gears with badges and gold
- PVE players can buy gears with gold and dungeon tokens
- PVP players can buy gears(skins only) with gold and glory

After changes:
- WvW players can buy gears with badges and gold
- PVE players can buy gears with gold and/or dungeon tokens
- PVP players can buy gears(skins only) with gold and ???

But with glory being abolished, what’s there to distinguish PVP players from PVE players? I get that they want to integrate PVP with the rest of the game, but with the removal of glory, what kind of system will differentiate PVP stuff from PVE stuff? The OCD in me doesn’t like the idea of PVP and PVE being too meshed together since it feels unbiased to PVP players if PVE players can easily buy PVP stuff after the changes just because they have more gold than the typical PVP player especially when there’s no glory-gold exchange that will be happening other than the temporary glory vendors which sells stuff for both glory AND gold. That’s just a bit unjustified IMO. If they are doing this to limit the buying power of skyhammer glory farmers, I think that they have to deal with them in a way that does not kitten the legit PVP players. They should have dealt with those guys with perma-ban or rollback.

Not in the slightest. You have to pvp to earn glory. You have access to gold as a PvP only player if you craft dyes and sell them. The only things on there that are expensive are things that are costly for both gold and glory. You can level a character up to 80 for super cheap through PvP as well. It just means you need gold and glory and to get glory you have to PvP. They don’t want gold rich PvE players coming in and having the ability to buy whatever they like. It makes them PvP.

Since PVP did not offer gold as a reward when Glory was earned, the temporary glory vendor should not require ANY GOLD for the items he offers.

Anet developers in charge of PVP should not be overlooking this. It’s insulting to the PvP players that earned this glory, but not the gold required to phase out the currency that’s being taken away from them.

Highly disrespectful.

Will you be introducing glory items in between here and the deletion of glory? I wouldnt want to imagine spending all my glory on some items now and then you introducing some great items which I’ve now locked myself out by wanting to fully utilize my glory before it goes bloop

They are rewarding skyhammer farmers who also pve. Its a slap in the face to pvp players I agree. If they don’t retroactively reward pvp players through creative ways not named gold, then ALL pvp players literally wasted 1.5 years of their life.

Yes in the slightest…I’ve only pvp’ed since the game was released. I have well over a million glory and nothing of worth to spend it on. Now they are releasing things of minor worth, but guess what? I still can’t buy it unless I PVE or invest more time in pvp. So yes, it is baffling.

16 gold to level a character. That’s not cheap.
