Disappointed at PvP variety...
You’re not alone in wanting more PvP modes.
Conquest is… probably not the most popular game-type around. It does have some merits, but many feel that it shouldn’t be the only available mode.
Personally, I’d like to simply get a 5v5 deathmatch with no respawning.
I just wish we could get something more akin to GW1 PVP.
They will! little by little.
Yah Anet is gonna take their time with this one like they do with everything. They already have our money its not like their are subs at stake =(

I’m hoping for a good CTF myself.

They’ve already said they are adding paid tournaments and ranking systems. So even if you have capture objectives now, at least they are working on it as we talk about it. WvW is fun, but only if you’re on the winning side or with a good guild. x)
i think they need to incorperate good old GvG. slay the guild lord for the win. its the best form of pvp in my opinion. i would play that all day
Looking for CTF also. As long as Mesmers, Ele’s and Thieves can’t teleport around with the flags in hand, we’re good!
I’m thinking Whitefall Steppes style from RIFT. Man that was a fun map. Too bad the pvp was unbalanced as all hell.
the current map selection is really boring, you can only do the same thing so many times, even if you have differently themed maps but with identical gameplay!
i want a ctf map, where holding a flag disables all benificial movement effects, skills and utilities (to stop certain classes from being overpowered, think sorc in swtor’s huttball) but make it so you can pass a flag (600 range) but also intercept a pass!
i want a large deathmatch map, with either a guild vs guild option or 8vs8 (maybe 16vs16?)
and why not try to invent something new, even though swtor had it’s faults it had rather unique pvp maps and modes, especially huttball and the assault map where you blew up or defended doors and planted a bomb at the end forgot it’s name, i’m sure anet has it in them to create something amazing
for me the pve experience they created in this game is probably the best i’ve played so far, so please work your magic on the pvp experience too!
i also wish you could pvp in your pve gear, not for gaining ranks or stuff or whatever, but just for fun, guild vs guild in pve gear, i mean why not? i can’t be the only one that would enjoy that?? maybe give some wvw tokens if you win a match but even that isn’t important
i want to be able to que for a certain map while pve’ing, and after the map finishes i want to be back in pve where i was before, i fail to see why this isn’t possible right now? (when every other mmo seems to be able to do it)
i personally don’t care for tournaments or paid tournaments, or hardcore 5vs5 teams duking it out, that’s not the type of game i enjoy, i understand some people do like it, but why not offer a no reward pve geared freely queable pvp system (like so many other mmo’s offer) to people like me that like to casually pop in and out of pvp and have a bit of pvp fun between a dungeon or an event chain???

I would too! Mostly because it is fun with several game-modes and I don’t really care about imbalances between game-modes.
Even so….
I think Anet will be really restrictive in adding content of this sort for two reasons:
- Anet have stated that they prefer one format to balance the game around as it is exponentially more difficult (if not impossible) to balance parallel but mechanically different game-modes simultaneously
- Avoid to much fracturing of the player-base, whit more game modes players will split up giving longer ques, less players, less competition and lase biases for rankings and similar, splitting the player-base is something most game avoid doing to much
I also personally believe there is a third reason. My impression from other games is that in the end, 80-90% of the player-base end up playing just one of the game modes anyways (this ties into that the players them-self don’t want to split up their own community and also how different game modes are perceived over time), while the company retains all increased cost for providing and supporting multiple game modes. this my be cynical but I think it plays in that it is might be a not so economical decision.
Balancing around one game mode gives just as much issues as balancing around several…
This game should support ‘balanced’ builds, all rounders, instead of creating new holy trinity’s.
It’s true that if they introduce, for example, 5 game modes, that there will be like 2 or 3 really popular ones. 1 or 2 with mixed feelings and at least one hated by most.
But is that really enough reason not to introduce them at all?
Capture point only goes so far for me…
WvW isn’t balanced in any way or form, and the free server transfers are completely ruining it beyond that in terms of balance.
I love the idea, I don’t like the implementation at all.
Join the best server, win.
join the biggest zerg, win.
Simple answer to the OP’s issue:
yes it lacks variety for me too, a lot of it!
