Last season, I was Tier 3 Gold with my Ranger and pet. I don’t have HoT. If I purchase it, will I be able to make Platinum? I try hard to fight, and I can’t win into Platinum. People in game say that I lose because I’m core.

HoT Ranger looks strong because he throws staff and can disapear. But my longbow is strong too.

No, you don’t need HoT for plat, but given the direction anet went with, next seasons you might need hot later.

There are quite a few builds that are core and still effective. People are getting over the elite spec builds and learning how to counter them, so there are glimmers of relevance here and there.

It generally boils down to your skill with the class, not whether you’re core or not.

Not Required, but you probably have to work harder. I mean you could try condi engi with pistols. But that’s not exactly the lowest skill floor. And with all the randomness there will be a percentage out there who just hit the right matches and will get carried unless they are flat awful.
