Do people get punished for leaving group?

In Most MMOs I played, when it comes to instanced PvP, players get punished for abandoning the group. But I see that more often in this game than others.

thats why I ask.

Only in Unranked and Ranked arenas, but not in hotjoin. I’m not sure about leaving and coming back on another character before the match starts, though, and I’d like to know if anyone has an answer to that.

If you switch characters before the match starts, you don’t get a penalty.
