Guild Wars 2

Honest question. Everyone in my personal circle is only playing GW2, because there is no other PvP focused mmorpg (minus WoW.) Maybe I’m being dramatic, but this is terrible. Every patch since 2014 has made this game worse. I’ve gone from recommending GW2 to friends to warning people not to even try F2P.

What makes it even more frustrating is when I see Colin call GW2 pvp a “Major Success.”

Are you kidding me? How deep in the sand have you buried your head to come up with that conclusion.

-OR- do you just define “major success” by looking at a chart / graph?

once i gave in and played the elite specs, figuring I’d rather have pips than self-respect, i started to enjoy it a lot more. Helluva lot more than playing non-elite specs.

And always more than I had arenaing in WoW.

^^^ Did that as well, then I realized some teams were dropping matches and that anyone can grind their way into Ruby because of said purposeful losses combined with luck and tier lock-in. So really the only prestige badge come end of season will be Diamond and Legendary divisions, Amber to Ruby is just ArenaNet making solo queuers and players who don’t really have the skill needed jump though hoops and think PvP is still rewarding. It’s all a facade until you get to Ruby.

I’m still playing. Just trying to get as far as I can pretending Leagues don’t exist and have no expectation of getting the Legendary backpack. I think once you set expectations it helps.

It’s not even the leagues. It’s the fact that, if you want to be successful in solo, you need to either play Bunker Mes, Condi Rev, or Tempest. Playing either of my two favorite classes is basically saying, “Yeah i dont expect to ever win a match up.”

there are always classes that fall out of meta. Necro was useless once upon a time, eles, mesmers too. hell, rangers were out of meta for 2.5 years.

GW2 has the best mechanics of any pc game i know of. Conquest is a great PvP imo as well. Forces alot more strategies.

I think what has happened is Anet put out a bad expansion and its just snowballed.

Its not even that the expansion is bad. So many great ideas but everything seems like grinding which isnt fun.

So to answer your question, i do enjoy PvP. I am though not enjoying GW2 atm.

Today I went looking for a new game… I don’t know what to play anymore -_-
I’d like some action PvP MMO that would interest me and have active developers…
I can’t actually find any attractive games… that have nice graphismes + dynamic gameplay … they all seem to be cheap f2p games, that’s really annoying.

Thanks to Guild Wars 2… I will never play again or just even try any MMO that has a leveling phase and requires to do PvE before being able to PvP (like farming stuff etc). I want to play a game that I can install and do PvP directly without doing XX hours of PvE.

(actually I’m dl-ing eso, maybe the last mmo that’ll try out, the pvp is just like WvW of gw2 but the new classes etc, it would be interesting… The game I loved was Aion and it was an open-world PvP so… maybe I could play a real ranger again in a game.. I never could love WvW in gw2… people are really kitten… anyway kitten NCsoft.)

I’ll stop GW2 after I hit Ruby I guess… I have no interest anymore to play this game, I don’t want to see only 2 or 3 classes in PvP. No thanks.

I’m enjoying the PvP and also the league. Is a bit hard, due playing mostly alone in pugs, but I’m slowly grinding my way, trying to re-learn my main (DH) and the Rev.

I think that the balance needs changes, and so the pip system, but I’m not deceiving myself: I did play PvP for a briefly time in other MMOs (ESO, Archeage…) and even with its faults GW2 is better. Much better, to be honest. Currently, my fav part of the game.

I’d love to license anet technology and create a PVP based game out of with. Of course, I’ll trim the fat and the mismanagement.

I applaud the guys who created the core mechanics of pvp. I don’t know if theyre still with the company though

Starting to feel like not bothering. Got to T2 Sapphire and since then it’s 1 win +1 pip, 1 win +1 pip, 1 loss -2 pips. Been on T2 for days. That’s not even the most irritating part. It’s that when I lose, it’s because someone decides to be helpful by camping close all match, or ignoring close cap to take beast and also usually have it stolen, or running into outnumbered fights solo to die, preferring to die over rotate out of a lost fight - even when we have the other 2 points - or because I have 2 DH on my team that can’t get onto the point for all the condi pressure making them all but useless. Then, after that so obvious issue, I’m the one that gets flamed either because I decided to speak up about it, apparently making myself a target, or because I play a thief.

Heck, I even just got told I made a match 4v5 for playing a thief when the other team had a thief too. A match where our ranger decided to camp close for the first quarter, go beast after 3 of us wiped mid and I went far, where I downed their thief and had 2 others chase after me, therefore holding 3 on far for a good minute while my guys heroically won close back 4v1, followed by the highlight of our necro engaging a respawned staff thief off point and losing to it 1v1. A close match, but when you lose or even win with that many bad plays, it’s just not fun. Now, of course, losing is worse because on top of all that, you lose pips. Way to go ANet.

Nope. Every game feels like 9 players vs me. Nothing is enjoyable anymore and leagues have genuinely made me miserable. I expected at least some band-aid fixes yesterday, but who was I kidding.

This is by far the worst shape that GW2 PvP has been in for the last three years. Every game is fighting the same 5 specs. There is no diversity and bunker Mesmers are probably the most broken spec to grace this game including turret Engies. Not pushing a balance patch before February is madness.

Pug queued my way to sapphire.

Started with a build and changed it a million times since as I refined the way I played.

Have also improved my play quite a bit.

I can control what I can control. While losing sucks, it’s not something I get worked up over, as is the players that I am teamed up with.

3 tiers from diamond.

Well, looking at a graph to see how much pvp is being done compared to the rate before the expansion would be a pretty good way to define “major success”…

I’m not really crazy about the new elite specs and the meta that formed around them. I think there were a lot of great ideas, but a few of the dominant classes are silly because they are tanky and they also have a lot of damage, so they don’t have strong weaknesses. It’s boring.

The league system was poorly-made, too. I think the ideas for the expansion were all in the right place, but the implementation leaves a lot to be desired.

PvP is okay. I will enjoy it a lot more if/when some of the elite specs are given weaknesses, and when all the classes are overall more balanced. As it stands, you could probably form a distinctive ranking or tier list detailing the hierarchy of the relative power of the classes…

I still like it. Aside from the bad balance in pvp right now, its still by far my favorite mmo to play.

More or less the same. Except for the playing LoL. I see GW2 more or less on par with LoL now. LoL has the worst toxic players and GW2 just is a mess, so about the same, overall.

It’s getting tougher and tougher to enjoy it, to be honest. I still play a match or two for dailies, but nothing more than that. I still tinker with my builds and try to get better at PvP, but not to much effect.

I’m looking for something else to play until Anet balances the game back into relevance for me, which may be never. They’ve been going further and further into imbalance all year long.
