Does GW2 have a shot at making it to eSports?
I sincerely doubt this game will ever be an esport. There are just countless problems with it. Even if they do deliver on all the missing features, there are hundreds if not thousands of bugs which Anet doesn’t seem to care about fixing. Can’t have an esport when so many fights come down to who has worse luck with the bug RNG. Then there’s the whole problem of the game being horrible to watch because of the completely overdone effects, difficult to follow action, and questionable game mode.
Maybe years down the road Anet will get their stuff together enough to have a shot, but with the speed they move, just about everyone playing now will have quit long before this game even has a chance at being an esport.

It’s going to take a very long time and be very difficult at this point, for several reasons. If you peruse the boards over the last 6 months there’s enough evidence without me having to say a thing.
The problem is going to be building an audience for it. At the moment, they are tweaking and nudging their game towards ‘perfection’ and losing playerbase at a pretty steady level for “in-betweeners”… those players who are not quite casual, not quite hardcore tPvP, who are typically the ones who watch and enjoy eSports, and this games current form, to me, pushes those players away the most.
it’s not impossible. it’s just improbable with the speed they’re moving at.
Nothing to say it’s not possible, it’s probably going to be a long time till we see anything close to it though.
Sure, the current population is somewhat lacking, but without a doubt we will/would see a significant increase once all the much needed features are in place. Currently what we have, although it’s an improvement on the previous system, it’s still hardly playable for both high and low skill level competitive players.

Yes they do. Just not now because it’s too soon how GW2 looks now. Give it time they’re taking baby steps to perfect their work.
The problem is that they want to make it an esport without ANY investment. It should be obvious for just about anyone now that the pvp team has way too little actual resources on their hands, hence why they’re pushing out actual updates so slowly.
Real esports made the game esport through proper investment. Cash price, features, having community managers, etc. We have like, what? Five devs that we know of with all of them showing criminal lack of game understanding (mantra mesmer and minion master hero karl is worse at the game than I was after a week yet is the balance designer?)

It does seem like they’re moving too slowly. Six months just to get a ladder is unacceptable.
It was also really troubling to hear the developers say necromancers have a ton of viable builds when only condition builds are viable. The developers even included minion master in their list.
