Hey there, I am rather new to the game, and I recently started on sPvP with my thief.

I once tried a ranked arena and was hardcore ganked instantly. Then I started doing unranked matches to train myself expecting to be matched with players near my experience.

I’m rank 13 at the moment, and since the beginning, I usually see ranks around mine (rabbit, deer and dolyak). However, not so rarely, I encounter people with titles like Champion <insert class here>, Legendary Champion, chosen, Ghostly Hero… And a couple of times I was stomped with a Phoenix banner.

So, why is the game throwing a deer in front of wolves? And why are those higher ranked people always on the opponent team?

How does MMR work in GW2? Or does it not work at all in unranked matches? (I don’t mean practice, btw, Unranked arena. The one between practice and ranked :P)

If you’ve only just started sPVP, your MMR takes some time to settle as it’s trying to figure out your skill level. Give it a few days and it should settle.

Rank has nothing to do with MMR (nor should it).
