So I have been trying to get into PvP and I just cannot. I really appreciate ANet giving us max level toons with every toy and skill we can think of (for SPvP especially) but it is just a little daunting. I really would like to have a chance to ease my way into it; and there is no way to ease into PvP in this game. You either get washed away by a giant PvP tidal wave or stick with PvE. Anyone else feeling the same way?

mmm nope…the whole point of this pvp is that everyone has everything at his/her disposal…low level pvp just makes things unbalanced…

All I can say is, find a pair of weapons that you like playing with and then build your traits and utility skills around them and add matching runes, sigils and jewels, then you will be all that better in pvp.

ok if you don’t understand you probably shouldn’t be spamming here.

About the post, it is kinda weird a lvl 1 becoming 80 and able to kill real 80s. Sure is for new players.

A pvp for low levels doesn’t actually seems alright, since it’s sooooo easy to level up, why bothering on pvp at lvl 10, 20, 30, 40… when you can easily get level 80 and unlock everything.

If you have a burning need to pvp while you learn your class you could try WvW. Everything stays the same but your stats and level are bumped up to 80. Then again PvE is really the place to learn your class and skills if you want to take it slow.

You should either play pve and learn your class before you go pvp. Or you cna allso go to the sparring NPC’s and just get used to the skills.

There is a lot to consider when making your build; Traits, weapon sets, sigils in those weapons, runes on your armor, your amulet.

I spent hours last night speccing out a memser with the strongest phantasms I could make. Then I decided to change and wiped out everything and recreated my mesmer to to try apply as many conditions as possible and make them as strong and as long lasting as possible. I took hours reading through the traits, reading through the runes and sigils… it is a big task if you’re not prepared to do a little homework. But it sure is satisfying when you have a concept in mind and you find a great combination of traits, weapon skills, runes, and sigils that combine into an effective build.

I would recommend going to the NPCs in the mists and fighting each class. You can try out your skills in a more controlled enviornment, try different builds, experiment with different traits, and ideally get a bit more comfortable with your chosen build without the choas of 5 enemies rushing your capture point.

I wish there was a PvP mode that was more forgiving for anyone that’s new to it. Which is what I think you mean. Lowering the people involved would help a LOT. Nothing makes you want to stop playing like evaporating as five other players with glass cannon builds race through you while you’re trying to claim a point.

GW2 sPvP is extremely unforgiving. And unfortunately a lot of that is that many builds are not viable, and there’s no real way to know that without getting creamed a few dozen games. Something as simple as a little 3v3 mode of some kind, even if it was just a little sparring mode on the tutorial grounds, would go a LONG way. You could actually duel people and ask them what happened when you lose, and others could watch and give advice. As it is, an 8v8 with objectives where people rarely talk to one another is NOT conductive to introducing players to your game’s PvP.

There’s NPCs in the HotM that serve excellently for testing builds. Though I rarely see anyone bothering. Most people just don’t care about being bad.

what exactly is being lost when you get rolled the first 20 matches by people who have played for weeks more than you? its a learning process. just suck it up. start with a basic build and go from there.
