Q:
Does our level or past seasons rank matter?
Nope. It sucks because he first days of the season are filled with pve scrubs that only care about the reward :/
Still waiting for that Shield/Shield meta
Yeah I’m pretty sure it does actually. I started in s5 and finished bronze, s6 I went 8 wins and placed silver then finished at gold 3. This season I only won 4 games and placed gold 1, so the system clearly takes your previous seasons mmr into account.

It’s a soft reset. So your previous ranking does matter.
Your spvp rank don’t matter, your previous league placement matter for the begining and becomes more and more irrelevant the more matches you play.
If i remember correctly, when a new season starts, everyone’s rating is set to 1200 +/- half of the difference between 1200 and your previous rating. (so a 1600 sr starts at 1400, and a 800 sr starts at 1000)
This was put in place so that the matchmaking in the first few days is a little bit less chaotic than a hard reset, and, yeah, it has the side effect of giving high rated players from the previous season a headstart.
Seems the other comments skimmed past the part which was relevant.
Anet just implemented this wvw system where hardcore wvw player had vast advantage over new players in getting rewards.
Rank does not matter when rewards are concerned. PvP earns pips based on match participation. WvW gain more pips the higher their WvW rank is.
Platinum and legendary offer extra pips after each game. These are not tied to your rank though. This is the only thing similar to WvW where you get an extra pip or two if your world is placing 1st or 2nd in the current Skirmish, which is ok.
Do I want a similar system? No. I want that bias removed from WvW and to add participation pips for actively playing in WvW instead of getting t3 and AFKing.

Mhh are you sure?
I was Plat in the first season. In the second i got some real gud pve people in my placement games and ended up in Silver, i gave up for that season because i could not stand the quality of games i got, it was horrible. (i could have grinded back to Plat but i already did that with an alt in the first Season)
In the current seasons i won a lot of my placement games and got into Plat again….
Proposal —> You get set back to the start of the Tier from your last season:
If you were Silver last season you will start at 900 rating. If you were Gold you start at 1200, for Plat and Higher you start at 1500. (idk about Bronze i think 0 would be a bit mean ;-) maybe start at 800 or let them keep their ratings)
Interestingly, this is the first time where I felt the effect of the past season. Small sample size aside, the previous two iterations of this system saw me placed way lower than where I finished. This season, my placement was nearly identical to the end of season six.

An anet dev said yesterday or the day before that it’s a soft reset and your previous season rank does count in determining your MMR during placements.

Why do we even have placement games?? why do 10 games decide where you are put? i have already played a whole season in Plat, why did only 10 games put me in Silver. Maybe its just me but i think that is ridiculous.
