Don't tell me how to play
I have feels for you, Unseen.
Unfortunately; PvP in any game brings out the worst in pre-teens (and adults!).
Every game I play that has a pvp component brings these types of attitudes. Most of the time it’s from players that are pretty crappy themselves, yet have an ego the size of the moon.
Hotjoin is 100% exactly what you are looking for.
If you’re learning new skills/traits-
If you’re slower and working to build experience on a new class-
If you’re simply just wanting to login and quickly join a match to have some fun-
This is what hotjoin is for. People trolling/giving trouble are poison. However, the best we can do is just /ignore them and know that their attitude is likely going to keep them bad, and they will never improve!
Alternatively; best advise I can give you is hot join with a friend or two! Not only is it more fun, but the ragers won’t get to you as much when you can laugh it off with friends.
/respect
Dont worry about it, no matter what you play people hate.
Oh you use the meta L2P
On my thief people told me not to use p/p then when i figured out how to make them good not great but good no one ever said anything.
You will be shocked by how many bad players are out there telling people how to play so take your time and dont worry about them.
If you play Practice? I agree with you. If you play Unranked? I somewhat agree with you, but people are more serious there and expect you to be at least somewhat aware of what your build can and can’t do, the map layouts, the basic idea of how to win, side objectives and/or mechanics. E.g., I’d never try out a new build in Unranked, I’d go to Practice to, well.. practice. If you play Ranked, you should expect people to be mad if you play terrible. Also, in Practice you don’t necessarily need to have Map/Say/Team/Whisper chat enabled, have it on a combat log or something instead. It’s extremely uncommon to have actual useful chatter occur there. Even if it could be good practice.
Also, make sure you aren’t taking all suggestions as someone telling you what to do, as it may merely be players trying to be helpful by telling you what skills (they think) are highly useful and what traits go well with them. You know, maybe they just wish to help you out? So that you can learn from their knowledge, and ultimately presumably have even more fun by “winning”. That said, not everyone sharing knowledge may perhaps be all that knowledgeable. The mileage may vary on that.

PS: I fail to see how anyone can know if you have anywhere between a toaster or a gaming PC. They’d have to be physically present to know that. If they are in the same room as you, I’d recommend taking it up with them in the real world, not on the forums. Sorry if this is seen as me telling you what to do, I mean it merely as a suggestion.

I can do whatever I want. I have the option to yell at you for using a crap build and double capping points. You have the option of ignoring me. What one takes more effort?

Please don’t tell me how to play
Don’t tell me what skills to use or what traits to have
Don’t troll me because I don’t play the way you want me to
Don’t insult me because I may be a slower player than you
Don’t laugh at me because I don’t have the best gaming pc
I play hotjoin. I’m allowed to learn. I’m allowed to play the game in my own way.
Please stop the trolling, the hating, the insulting, the swearing, the negativity and the intolerance. Not everyone plays in the same way. So let us play the way we want and have the time we need to learn and have fun.
Thank you.
While your frustration is understandable, you should still pay some credit to people who try in a polite way to teach you something:
Don’t tell me what skills to use or what traits to have
It may help to listen sometimes, given ofc the polite attitude of the player behind the suggestion, don’t take it too personal if somebody gives you a suggestion
That’s why kick function exists in the game
We wouldn’t be rude and tell you what we need from you as a group,
we’d just silently vote kick you :P
Okay, but when you’re doing 5 signets on Warrior you are clearly making it a 6v4 for your own team mates and should be reported for intentional feeding.
No one wants to be told what to play, true. But if you’re doing stupid builds such kitten signet warrior, you know? Builds that are so bad that cripple your team, then it’s time to feel some sort of remorse, ya?
Schwahrheit, #1 Fuhrer NA, Just your everyday typical rager
If you play hot join then people should not tell you anything (maybe they are giving helpful advice, but that’s rare). Hot joins are called practice now for a reason. It’s there to practice.
I wouldn’t suggest 5 signet warriors are meta, But im sure almost any experienced warrior could 1v1 tons of players and play hot join amazing kitten signet warrior. But hey if that build irks you so bad maybe your losing to them?
I had a thief tell me how to play yesterday. He tried to prove his build by dueling people and lost several times, most times by wipe. He had some good suggestions, but I didnt take the ones that shoehorned me in to playing what he did.
Take all suggestions with a grain of salt. If something works for you, run it. The only reason the meta exists is because a better one hasnt been discovered.
Don’t be afraid to run a weird build if it helps you perform.
Zarin Mistcloak(THF) Valkyrie Mistblade(WAR) Kossori Mistwalker(REV) Durendal Mistward(GRD)
I used to think (build op, pls nerf) like you, but then I took a nerf to the knee.
If I say to you in tPvP “go run and fight I cap that” its not because I want to mock you or whatever its because im the defensive staff ele and you are the thief theirs no reason why you try to stand on that point with me and waste time.
I would say you are right you paid for game you can play the way you want plain and simple nobody gives you anything so you do not own anybody anything.
I would go unranked thought skip hotjoin if you find some wanna be pro on unranked skip him or ignore him whatever you prefer. Just do not let you get under your skin.
This 5vs5 not 1vs5 people try to shine forgot that when they shine their team is loosing fight:( they are overly interested looking good not winning as a team.

But its ok for you?
Please play to win.
GW2 PvP community is frankly full of loud, annoying and dumb people. Just turn the chat off. Honestly you’d be losing nothing from just going dark.

Compared to other games guild wars 2 community are noobs with insults.
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.
Want to know how to end trolling? Change your chat to combat mode. Problem solved.
And your chat will actually be useful when in combat mode.
Hotjoin is meant to do whatever the hell you want. I find a large number of people are there just for the dailys anyhow. Keep it up. Just please try to be useful outside of hotjoin. The best way to do this is use a metabuild (www.metabattle.com/ is a good source) before you try your own builds. Do try your own builds, but become familiar with the meta first. Frequently a metabuild can be tweaked slightly to suit your play style. Many of the builds listed give you alternatives so you can fit your own play style.
