This might sound like your typical QQ, but let’s all be quite honest: Thieves and Mesmers can survive for 20+ seconds while downed. How is this fair or balanced?

Every single time I down a thief, I think to myself sigh now I have to chase this guy around forever or leave him alone and let him get up

It’s incredibly distracting from the combat to have to chase these stupid teleport / vanish abilities around and I think it ruins the entire combat system.

Let’s take a look at ele’s for example. I can root someone who is 90% of the time already standing right next to me. I can wait 10 seconds to mist form and move around for 3 seconds. How is this even remotely similar to what a thief can do? There is a very clear imbalance here and it needs to be fixed one way or the other.

I cannot count how many times I’ve downed a thief in a team fight, and due to the sheer amount of people fighting I can’t possibly give up 20 seconds of my time to chase this guy down. Then one of my ele teammates who is a free stomp gets killed and the thief is right back up murdering me.

This needs to be fixed. ASAP.

And before the trolls start coming in and calling be bad, I’ve played a couple hundred games already and have seen the extent of these matches. This is a stand out problem every 1-2 minutes, especially when the thief is played by literally 40-50% of the players in every hot join match.

Mesmers: 1 stealth + port which is easily noticeable because the 2nd mesmer to pop out of stealth is the one and also has a red arrow over his head.

Thieves: Port, run over and kill him. The initial cooldown on his stealth ability is made that if you find the thief quickly then you can flag him before he can stealth.

Honestly, if you down a mesmer or thief on something like a ranger, warrior, gaurdian, or most profs you can beat them in a downed to downed fight. Warriors can reincarnate, rangers pets can heal themselves… etc. Stop QQ’ing.

Let me guess, you play a thief.

You can’t possibly be justifying these downed abilities unless you were one yourself, I just refuse to believe it. We’re not talking about a 1v1 fight where I have all the time I need to swivel my camera and look for where he teleported to. I’m talking about 3v3, 4v4, 5v5+ fights where there’s just way too much happening to sit there and track down a teleported downed thief or mesmer.

As for your illusion excuse, once again in a 1v1 no problem, it’s easy to spot the illusion. In a 3v3+ it’s chaotic and there’s no reliable way to figure out which one popped first.

Do you even PvP? How have you not picked up on this yet?

Let me refer back to elementalist abilities. 1 root, and a 10 second cd 3 second move, where everyone can see exactly where I’m headed. Please, for the love of God, explain how these are balanced abilities?

For downed mesmers use AoE around them. Personally i equip an axe on my ranger to deal with downed mesmers as it will 2HKO it’s copies and deal damage to it in the process.

I agree on thiefs being annoying like hell…

Downed state should be nerfed to oblivion in sPVP anyway. Only one interrupt skill should be available for all classes and then the #4 heal. No damage or more teleports or clones or other kittene….

Agreed. Downed state shouldn’t even be allowed in TPvP. SPvP I don’t care as much but meh.

I don’t mind downed state as a mechanic, but I do mind that some professions get way stronger abilities in downed state than others.

Ranger can interrupt 1 person, same with Warrior. Not sure about Engineers, but never seen them do anything funky in downed either, so guessing it’s the same with them. Necros have 1 single target fear as well. For all of these, you can easily finish them within 2-3 sec of them being downed as long as you just have 2 people finishing them at the same time, or one with Stability.
I don’t even mind the Guardians having an AoE knockback, because that’s all they have, and you only need 1 person to finish them after the knockback, or use stability to ignore it.
And as someone pointed out earlier, the Elementalist one is a complete joke, they don’t even have a single target interrupt, so one person without stability can easily finish them.

Thief and Mesmer on the other hand can pop invisibility and teleport while downed. Invisibility stops the stomp, being out of range stops the stomp. Even with stability you can’t finish them off, and even with 5 people it’s a hassle.

Sure, in 1v1 you can find the real mesmer fairly easily, and with thieves you have the option of just finishing them with attacks instead of stomping them, but that doesn’t change the fact that those 2 professions downed skills are way out of line compared to the other professions.

Either fix those 2 downed skill-sets so they’re on the same level as the rest, or remove downed all together in sPvP.

Instead of pressing F to finish them off, why don’t you take advantage of the fact that they have low armor and just hit them to death when their face down the ground? Or you can cancel F and then anticipate where their going to reveal themselves and then finish them off.

Since people are negative about nerfs, how about we buff to balance then?

Again, how does this take any less time to down them? How does THIS make it balanced? They added a stomp mechanic so you don’t have to sit there and mindlessly auto attack downed players. First of all, when you make a post insulting and whining you should not expect people to give you advice and arguments for their posts, because you don’t do it and don’t deserve it. However, I will make an exception.

1. The fact that the Elementalist doesn’t have an interrupt is a problem of the Elementalist profession and has nothing to do with Thief and Mesmer downed state and it should be adressed by Arenanet.

2. The Thief and Mesmer are easy to down, this is how:

[Thief is downed]

- If you have a charge/teleport ability try to stomp him, he will port away. Charge/Teleport to him, stomp him. His smokebomb won’t be up.
- If you are going to be crippled and can’t move fast, spam damage moves. When he ports get to him and continue damaging him, when he smokebombs and enters stealth keep dropping AoE attacks and auto attacking, he dies.

[Mesmer is downed]
- Stomp mesmer, he/she cloaks and creates a clone. Spam auto attack asap as this happens, when they appear you can notice from the damage to health bar ratio of the target if it is a clone or not. You can also look at the flashing marks above their head to identify which one is the real mesmer. Stomp.

These methods give you a guaranteed kill on them in less than 10 sec.

If there are other players near to support their team mates, then that is another story.

Depends on the situation, thief has the weakest down state when both players are downed. Guardian and Mesmer for example can easily kill a downed thief with their dowend state abilities.

Killing Thiefs: — Look out … its 1-2 sec stealth, you can “presume” where they will go, since you look where they are facing,… it will be like ~5 meters in front, you can even start to finish them when they are still in stealth, if they are near you!

Mesmers: Look for the “Guild” Tag, Clone does not have one …. lolz

it certainly is true that some downed abilities are stronger than other, but that 20+ second statement is absolutely not true
especially not for mesmer, as being said, the clone pops out first and 99% of the people use the 4th skill and therefore shining blue and there u have your mesmer.
As its for thief i’ve never player one so i dont know 100% how their downed work but its normally faster to just hit them with your weapon instead of finishing him…

What has gotten on my nerves with my Warrior is that I will enter the downed state and all of my skills will have massive cooldowns. With my stupid hammer and three people on me (and probably a dozen or so bears they’re hiding behind), there is no possible way I will ever get up, even if they choose to forgo stomping me. Sometimes my 2 skill will have an obscenely high recharge, which I don’t understand (I guess it carries over from the last time you were downed?), meaning I won’t get to use it for about 10-15 seconds, or I’ll have it up but Vengeance is on a HUGE cooldown. Meaning after my one little hammer throw, affecting a single enemy, even if timed perfectly to waste as much time as possible, I’m still nowhere close to being able to use my #3.

In sPvP, this = huge waste of my time. So when I see a thief or mesmer teleporting all over the place, crapping huge clouds of clones in all directions, it especially annoys me knowing if the roles were reversed, it’d just be a free kill.

They don’t really take that long when you just hit them instead of letting them troll you with their little teleports. Unless they end up behind a wall or on top of something, then I just leave them to their silly ways instead of hunting them down.

How is “12 year old” not an ad hominem? It is a negative characteristic that you made up to discredit Thief players.

It would imply I’m arguing with this vague “thief players”.

You are taking part in an open discussion so you are lying about not participating in a discussion. Your insult was an ad hominem, it is irrelevant and totally made up. Why do you want to discredit Thief players and paint them as people they are not?

Here, I’ll give you a couple examples, it might help clarify the error of your ways.

Example A:
Person A: “Things fall to the ground because of magic”
Person B: “No, things fall to the ground because of gravity, idiot”

Example B:
Person A: “Things fall to the ground because of gravity”
Person B: “Person A failed mathematics you can’t believe what he says”

Example B is an ad hominem, Example A is not.

Don’t be all butthurt that you’re a 12 year old thief player.

What does his age have to do anything with his choice of playing a Thief? You are implying that Thief players are children and should not be taken serious.

Meh, it doesn’t really feel like an “integral part” for anything besides mesmers and thieves.

Everything else just dies almost immediately after a 1-2 second pause depending on the skill they get.

Meh, it doesn’t really feel like an “integral part” for anything besides mesmers and thieves.

Everything else just dies almost immediately after a 1-2 second pause depending on the skill they get.

Even when playing Elementalist which arguably has the worst downed skills I feel that it’s really important. If your guardians are doing their job you have a very good chance of your team interrupting who ever is trying to finish you and then resing you. If they removed the downed state then guardians would become significantly less useful. It really works as another skill element to the game. E.g. If I am on my mesmer I can use distortion just before stomping someone so I don’t get stunned or knocked back (warrior/guardian) and I can finish the stomp. I can use the same thing when resing team mates. I’ve played both the best and worst for downed state and I feel it’s still great on both ends.

I enjoy letting my pet just wail on them while I cap the point and they just lay there and watch, prolonging their respawn and humiliation of losing a 1v1.

But yeah, I don’t do enough tournament play to actually see teamwork with the downed state. Random join games are just a zerg and a team suiciding into the zerg.

Random games are not representative. I feel the game would be 1/4 as good without the downed state, although I admit it needs some balancing between professions in terms of abilities given.

I cannot count how many times I’ve downed a thief in a team fight, and due to the sheer amount of people fighting I can’t possibly give up 20 seconds of my time to chase this guy down. Then one of my ele teammates who is a free stomp gets killed and the thief is right back up murdering me.

Why weren’t you helping your Elementalist instead of running around in confusion? If, for some reason, you couldn’t find the Thief, the next best option is to assist your teammates.

When downing a Thief, here’s two things you can remember – the first time they disappear in the middle of your execute, it’s a teleport. (Developing a better sense of court vision will help you better detect where they’re run off to.) The second time they disappear, it’s stealth. Attack the spot you last saw them in and you’ll be able to interrupt any bandage attempts.

the entire downed mechanic should really be removed, and as a mesmer who has also tried elementalist it’s plain as day that mesmer downed state is absolutely overpowered compared to other’s. even our dmge during downstate is >>> elementalist’s where illusionary thief often crits for 4k+. If arenanet doesnt just remove downstate like they obviously should, at least in pvp, then mesmer/thief downed state should be nerfed/brought in line with others for sure.

every class is,down,go to melle,f,cancel,f again and dude dead but with elementalist is only go to melle,f and ele down.
but thiefs or mesmer?
go to melle,f,they go hide or teleport,go to melle again after to search around,f again,they go hide,ok wait and f again,and now or teh tief is up again or i am dead.

i really i dont mind what thiefs or mersers thinks,this is umbalanced and the teleport skill must be swap with one interrupt as every class have and elementalist must get one also
