Hello!
I know that GW2 has downed state but it was fun in BWE and head start.
Now it’s so annoying.

1. It slows down the game.
For example – bunker role.
I tried to cap the point and I “killed” mesmer. Mesmer is inside the cap point. I can’t cap it with him inside. So I tried to stomp him. He teleported behind me. Finally I could stomp him. I’ve lost so much time to kill him and cap the point. If ANet really wants to slow down the game just remove zerker set.

2. It’s not about team play.
I’m sure that downed state is good in team PvP but it’s just suck in the rest of the game. If you have two downed players – enemy and friendly player – friendly player will chose to stomp enemy instead of healing friendly downed player.

3. Who healing downed players in zerg battle? (I know it’s PvP topic not WvW)
Seriously…

4. Downed skills are lack of balance.

5. Mechanic of skills are ridiculous.
Seriously, I can’t cast AoE caster spell because I’m blind. What? It’s just illogical.

6. Downed state is bugged (or not I don’t know)
Someone can explain me this situation? (it’s very often)
Enemy player is in downed state > stomp > another enemy player is trying to heal downed player (both of them are in front of me) > downed player teleported behind me > enemy player still healing him > end of stomp and nothing > enemy player has been healed.

And sometimes even if mesmer (for example) used #2 skill and teleports behind me or next to me, still I can stomp him successfully. Is it another RNG?

I made this topic here because I know it’s very hard to remove this from PvE. What about PvP only?

only you and a few minority find it annoying perhaps.

you’re not doing enough damage, if you have good damage you can dps the downed mesmer quickly.

it depends on the situation actually, if the downed opponent can be confirmed stomped without interrupted, finishing off the downed opponent will rally the downed ally.

they don’t do that unless they have stability and full health.
they revive defeated players after winning the battle though.

some downed skills are meant to be more powerful than others.

this is part of the game mechanic, deal with it.

perhaps the downed enemy is not within your stomp hit box. though it may appear to be on the screen. network lag perhaps?

downed state is an important game mechanic, it will not be removed anymore.
except in festive mini games such as dragon bash, aspect arena, etc.

errr not sure i think eventually they will bleed away if there is no one to heal them.

well, WvW is a zerg fest, with lots of variety of players.

in hotjoin, you can get very experienced and less experienced players together in the same room and team, so each battle varies a lot. if both opponent and friendly is down, and friendly is almost bled out, the priority is to revive the friendly, since the downed opponent will immediately rally upon death of the friendly.

as for blind causing problem to one hit AOE skills, yes, i can feel your pain when i miss arching arrow, but since the recharge time is 10 seconds, i deal with it.

continuous damage aoe attacks should only miss the first pulse and not the subsequent pulses though.

logically speaking, blind should cause aoe attacks to not land at the designated target area, but other target areas instead. what do you think?

That first part yes, that second part no. Not having your skill land where you want it could be the difference between life and death, and considering how easy/quickly some classes can reapply blinds it would be a nightmare.

I quite like the downstate.
It makes burst-bunker play slightly less horrible, since a burster doesn’t automatically win on a quick combo and must spend several more seconds securing their kill.
It’s tied into game/profession mechanics - think about a Backstab Thief getting their basic combo off on a squishy, instantly killing someone and reducing enemy numbers, before easily retreating with their high mobility - would this be okay? Downstate lets the ’defending’ group have at least a chance at keeping their ally alive against a lone foe who can then very quickly reset and start again.

The game has been balanced around it - the example listed above is a pretty potent one, and I’m sure there are a number of others. Removing it would require substantial rebalancing of entire professions, and that just isn’t reasonable to expect.

Anyway, related to this - it’s still horribly unreliable and buggy. Here’s a list of downstate bugs that I encounter with regularity:

Affecting all classes:
- network latency places downed players out of reach - but you have no idea where they actually are. Only solved if they are moved (with a launch or their own movement skill) or if they get ressed/bleed out.
- very occasionally, downing someone while they’re stomping you (already in downstate) won’t stop the stomp from completing.
- "procs-when-downed" skills (Lava Tomb, Putrid Explosion...) don’t usually proc if the player is in the air when they get downed (either falling or jumping).
- when coming out from the downed state, all skills can be unusable for 1-2 seconds. It doesn’t happen every time, so is clearly not intended behaviour. It’s possibly related to the Necro issue with utility skills getting locked out after exiting Death Shroud?

Very important to me, as an Ele main:
- in some patch or other, a delay of about 1 second was added to access to downed skills straight after hitting 0 health. This was to stop players from ’wasting’ their defensive downed #2 skills.
It doesn’t work for the zero-cast-time Vapor Form.
It is incredibly easy to get downed, while casting a #2 weapon skill, and immediately find oneself in Vapor Form - allowing foes to get a stomp (or kill with damage) several seconds earlier than they otherwise would, which can make a huge difference in a busy fight or with allies inbound.
There’s no real way for players to avoid this - the only thing I can think of is "don’t cast certain skills when close to dying", and that’s certianly not a reasonable thing to expect. It can’t be cast during that delay on downed skills... so why is there this moment before this in which it can?

Removing the downed state would reward bursters and stealth-abusing thieves, allowing them to instant-kill you with no ability to respond. Its a matter of learning to play defensively when stomping and learning to mitigate CC.

Stomps has a certain radius, and is active until the end of the stomp animation. If you teleport out of this radius before 3/4th of the stomp, it doesn’t hit. It is common for Eles for example to teleport mid-stomp so that it still lands even if your opponent teleported away. If your opponent teleports somewhere near their ally while being revived, they will still be healed since revivals also work within a radius, while avoiding your stomp.

Me too. I completely disagree with most of what the OP stated. Most of what he claimed as problematic, I feel are thematic, fun (although sometimes frustrating) and give an additional fighting chance.

none of those are bugs and personally i think the down state adds new depth do the game, and whether people should stomp or res is a VERY easy decision if the downed enemy is a thief ele or mesmer do not stomp always res if its a necro guardian warrior or engi and you dont have stab RES otherwise stomp!! and let dmg dealers dmg dont force them to stomp by using your pathetic auto attacks in an attempt to stop a double res.

I feel downrd state is pretty ok but I have two concerns:
Most important: death of an ennemy should not revive anybody…this is stupid mechanic
Second: in sPvP, the mechanic lets people waste too much time when they are outside the circle
