It is unfun to down someone only to have a thief cloak or some other class come in and cc you away. I don’t see it belonging in PvP mainly due to the small skirmishes/fights. But here we are with the game mode we’re dealt with.

How you handle your own and teammates downed states is one of the defining layers of being good at pvp at this game. Do you rez your teammate with the enemy around? Can you get back on point before you get downed to contest it? Can you secure a stomp before this guy gets rezzed? All important things to consider.
Downstate skills are unbalanced, yeah. Downstate can change the flow of a fight, yeah. It’s not really killing pvp, though. It can lead to some interesting plays. I do think they should balance the skills a bit, though.
Saddest thing is if a person does more damage in downstate.
New to guild wars… But holds the opinion that a mechanic which has been present for over 2 years is “literally killing pvp”
You’re right man, the downstate is why people don’t pvp, that’s the sole reason.
Also, CSGO is the same as GW2 – fps pvp games are a completely different kettle of fish to mmo pvp.
Sounds like someone has just failed to learn how to adapt and play around the downed aspect of pvp and is now crying from breaking several mouses due to down state induced rage.

If you’re not aware of downstate and its consequences going in, it can be frustrating. However, once you know to account for it when you play, you’ll see that downstate adds a lot more depth to the gameplay.
you’re new to the game how can u claim something is killing the game when you have not been a part of the community for any length of time……not trying to trash you. but if the game was in current state without down state the game would be beyond bad imho. the rally system, stomp and rez is huge part of the game.
I’m new to guild wars 2 pvp but I played a lot of competitive games and i still play one on a daily basis (csgo).
In my opinion downed state in pvp is the most unfun and uninteresting thing I have ever seen in any competitive games. It is literally killing pvp.
Its one of the things you have to get used to in Guild Wars 2. The downed state is a double bladed sword.
On one hand, it lets you get back up to the fight, giving you a chance.
On the other hand, if the enemy provides enough cleave, your team will wipe trying to resurrect you.
Its one of the reasons the best NA team lost the world championship. They were sacrificing too much trying to get their teammates up, taking huge amount of damage in cleave, and ultimately failing to make the res, they were all on low hp and one player less. It doesn’t take a genius to figure out that those are impossible odds.
With this in mind, you just have to learn to play around it. I personally like the downed system. It has a strategic part as well, which rewards risk. You can basically keep an enemy player downed to make him unavailable to his team. However, you never know if some of his teammates won’t popout of nowhere, res him and have yourself fight 2on1. Which is extremely difficult in Gw2.
Downstate is mostly fine in my opinion. It’s a bit annoying in WvW when people can rally off some random mobs or guards. Just yesterday a thief rallied 2 times off a mob and downed me because my blink was on CD when trying to stomp. I did manage to finish him off from downstate though.
I’d be OK with a damage nerf to downed abilities. Thieves and mesmers especially can dish out craploads of damage and mesmer’s downed #3 is just sick. I believe it’s a cruel joke from Anet to make our hardest hitting phantasm downstate only.
edit: And in sPvP it definitely has it’s place as it brings another layer of teamwork into play.
It’s unique to GW2 as you pointed out. I’d suggest learning to use it instead of making stupid statements on the forums Downstate adds a layer of strategy which in my opinion is always a good thing.

I do portal stump, immue stomp, leave ppl downed in a match to keep them out of the fight and all that jazz and I STILL think is just plain stupid .

I don’t particular care what you were saying. I was simply mocking the fact you use the word “exploit” to describe strategy.
Have you consider the fact that your friends are not very bright and maybe get new friends. Since we are throwing around anecdotal evidence, 99.99% of the people I knew who played the game did not have any issues understanding downstate, so clearly it must be your friends. If we assume that anecdotal evidence is a substitute for hard evidence.

1. my post clearly stated that I ‘THINK’ downed state is dumb, as in it’s my opinion.
The hard fact I needed to back that up is that I know what I think, perhaps now you are going to tell me that you know better what’s in my mind than myself? lol
2. Nowhere did I say my friends didn’t understand downed state, they rolled their eyes because it’s a dumb idea which is exactly what I thought when I started playing gw2 esp in pvp.
You may think downed state is all great and skillful but I use the word exploit because I feel cheap rather than skillful when I AE a deer to drag it into a 1 v 2 so that I can use it to rally when I get downed. How about when a ranger who run to a ledge to die where you can’t reach him but his pet can rez him . Both perfectly legal but should not be imo.
Downstate adds a layer of strategy which in my opinion is always a good thing.
