I want to fight people not play down state wars half of the time, that’s the problem.
If dmg wasn’t so insane and there was no downed state all the emphasis would be on ACTUAL fighting, not who gibbed each other first then this struggle over who can get them off their butt.
I’d rather see how well a team coordinates burst, or protection to counter a coordinated spike, and see some sick trick plays, that’s 1000x better than the same thing with crappy down state stuff.

Oh stop whining ans start thinking… for thief you just dps, they either tp to another place or go invisible, it’s better to just dps them down. As to guardians you just have to stomp them 2 times
This mechanic is not so complicated, also creates fighting chance for two organized friends to fight 3-4 or 5 guys at once

If you have trouble stomping guardians while playing a mesmer, you might want to look at your F4 ability.

mesmers have the tools to both easily stomp guardians and thieves
Why? Because not every class has a RELIABLE way to stop people from reviving people on the ground in a downed state I came out of a 2v1 in my mesmer I downed one guy and the guardian kept trying to revive his teammate and he popped stability and GG I couldn’t prevent him from reviving the friendly and they both continued attacking me again.
Eventually teammates came and helped and I downed the guardian this time, great job right? NOPE the thief downed someone and then the guardian got up again through rally and it all repeated…
It’s just a broken system that should be kept in WvW and PVE.

I think if you “die” it should put you on the ground like when you die and make it so it takes around 20 seconds to revive someone and make it so damage stops the channeling.
Bad Mesmer is bad, your sword auto (and all your clones sword autos) tend a boon on the 3 hit, not to mention mesmers have VERY easy access to boon removalsx Null Field, Arcane Thievary, Phantasmal Cleanser or w/e his name are 3 I can think of on the top if my head, not to mention you have F3 to interrupt whether you want it or not, staff has a chance to daze with chaos storm, GS has a KB, pistol has a stun etc etc.
You’re just being a baby, downed state is a good mechanic for PvP and creates more tactics than HURDURR SMASH!!

I hate it and like it. But it should stay, this was designed so everyone could rez without there being a designated healer. I believe Pvp is all about team even in hot join and being able to pick up a fallen team mate to rally for the win is great.

There are traits and utilities based around the downed system. Although it can be unbalanced, it is a valid mechanic and makes the game more team-dependent. Clutch stomps and resses are a game feature.
The Guardian with Stability through SYG! shout or Indomitable Courage will usually have Clerics on and sacrifice all damage for team support. If he can’t even res a teammate under fire what use would he be? To counter you can spec Shattered Concentration and remove Stability for your CC to work. You can also just stomp with F4 as a mesmer to prevent CC, or you can force his Down 2 and blinkstomp him.
Tbh, any competent offensive Guard + a Thief should get you in a 2v1 and you’d have no chance but to get away.

Mesmer has a kittenload of defenses.
Post patch engis will have reliable stealth stomp + Elixir S stomp.
Eles have mist form, rock solid, obsidian flesh, swirling winds, magnetic wave/aura, armor of earth, arcane block , sc3 blind and signet of air blind.
Wars have stability
Guardian with stab
Necros kinds have stability and blind well lol. kitten necros anyways.

Depending on how you trait the elementalist, I hear Lava front is where we do most of our damage in PvP, so I say it should stay.
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.
I’d be interested to see an option to turn off downed state in a custom arena to see what would happen. A lot of good teams would try it out and would be able to give reliable feedback as to how it would change the game. My expectation would be that they’d find that it wouldn’t work great, but you never know.
One thing I would like to see is an option to voluntarily die. It takes something like 15-20 seconds for an average-vitality build to bleed out, plus another 15 before being able to respawn, plus another 15 or so to run back to anywhere useful. In short, going into downed state in any 1v1 or 1v2 is punished mercilessly and will probably lead to the death of most of your teammates as they fight a man down for almost a full minute. Going into downed state in a teamfight is punished extremely lightly in comparison: you keep contributing damage and maybe a little control and if you have a decent team you can probably get back up.
The tactic of just leaving someone on the ground because you know you can increase the time he can’t play is a smart move but not fun. I think that going into downed state because you were out of position/outplayed/whatever should be punished, but it does feel a little funny that it’s basically an instant loss in some situations and not a big deal in others. I feel like a way to instant suicide after 15 seconds in downed state and bypass the respawn timer would help the game and promote more risk-taking and different strategies, rather than just rotating between close and mid.
Catching a couple people off guard, downing one, and wounding the other badly requires an amazing surprise attack. One of them popping stability and start ressing requires one utility and enough skill to press f.
1 vs 2 or more is simply near impossible as long as this mechanic is in place.
The game is balanced around stomp and rez, OP, as I’m sure others here have politely said.

No, downed-state should not be removed from sPvP, since bringing ress-utilities and supporting your team in that fashion is great.
However, for the purpose of spectating and general gameplay it’s not funny to see the same guy rally over and over again, it get’s confusing; How did he rally this time? Why is he alive again? And this leads to frustration.
Just limit the downed-state to once per defeat, the available downed-state recharges when OOC.
I have no idea why this has not been implemented.

I find that most people who complain about the downstate are relatively new. Most others know how to deal with it. The only change that should be made is that eles should not be able to mist through portals.

Instead of a higher TTK fight that includes the same strategies except with all of your abilities and build instead of 4 downed state abilities.
Imagine if in LoL everyone died twice as fast but was given Anivia’s Egg passive.
Suddenly actual fights are WAY shorter and there’s much less actual strategy involved (and just twitch play), then the strategy revolves entirely around egg stomping…. how is that more fun than having longer fights that actually require strategy, you know, with all of your abilities.
Downed State is just a horrible excuse to have ridiculously low TTK that turns the game into an FPS devoid of strategy and full of spam.
I don’t have problems “dealing” with downed state, and it’s not going away, doesn’t mean I can’t hate it and say it’s a bad mechanic that makes the game less interesting.

It’s pretty easy to rank downed states, actually: guardian is better than several professions because stealth and multiple stompers are countered, unlike engineer or warrior. A few professions have a very powerful downed #3, like ranger or warrior, but the #2 is more important because of the rarity of getting to use your #3. Guardian is certainly not the weakest.
The only thing I do not like about downed state is 1v1s are horridly imbalanced with some classes. Either warrior will win 100%, or ranger will win, and there is no point fighting. A thief, guardian, mesmer, engi, (maybe) necro, cannot win against a ranger in a 1v1 downed fight, when you both go down at the same time.

Give me higher hp pools or decreased dmg over this crappy stomping ‘everyone gets a second chance’ minigame. It just breaks up the feel and tension of the fight every godkitten time. It just doesnt feel as good to kill people in the exact same way as EVERYONE else, instead of getting a kill with your well timed class skills, big dragon tooth nuke or giant hammer swing. Trebuchets and shiny lights apperantly arent enough, combat needs a secondary objective too. It all just feels like distractions from the most important part, actual combat, and likely intentional.

It’s stupid. I just headshoted a into a guys face twice and stabbed him into his back once, yet that doesn’t kill him. Only lowers the durabilty of his legs.
I find it being much more a issue in WvW rather than PvP.

As far as spvp goes, they should just balance (see engi downed vs ele/guard) or, even better, normalize the downed skills across the professions (everybody get the same – 1 normal attack, a stomp “breaker”, a cc and the self healing).

The game would be terrible w/o it because they balanced the game around it in the first place, so of course it’s not gonna be removed, it’s still bad design IMO.
Downed state is an excuse to have ridiculously high TTK you see now which is like 80% twitch play, and leaves little room for skill except for “who can rez the teammate”.
I had a similar problem in Warhammer Online playing a healer, people died SO easily and my heals were crap compared to the spammable, permanent uptime 50% heal debuffs and massive burst dmg, but I had that 3-6 second cooldown in combat rez so I essentially spent 80% of my time rezzing people, as that’s the only useful thing I could do.
It would’ve been much better if that 80% of the time was focused on longer more interesting encounters involving all my heal abilities vs dmg abilities, but no.
Same here, longer more strategic fights compared to what we have no with a weaker downed state would’ve been better IMO.
Hell, the “thrill” of saving someone in downed state would probably be even better if killing someone in downed state was easier because it’d be that much harder to save them so when you do it’s clutch.

You know how they do it? By making you dead when your health reaches 0. People can say “it promotes skill” or “the game is balanced around it”/“it’s a major mechanic” all they want but when a character simply adds that downed state to their health pool(like ranger underwater or engi elixir) you guys look stupid. It’s terribly overpowered on some classes and so weak on others and yet players think it’s there to promote a better and balanced game? Haha there is no balance.
