E-Sport? Fix PvP.
1. Agreed but soloq without leaderboard only since anet want to puah people inti team play.
2. Sure. But soloq without leaderboard and teamq with leaderboard.
3. cool. So it can rewards basef on their skill

Like how warriors were incredibly useless at the first year? I agree.
But, so far. None of the classes are as useless as warriors in the first year in PvP. So its good.
4x Necromancer, 3x Mesmer, 4x Guardian, 4x Thief, 4 Revenant
Thats what i said, balance is ok so far now. The other Problems are way bigger anyway

True, after three years I agree the game has become much more balanced than at launch. I think that balance is a big part of why the pvp side of the game has grown so much in 2015…. Now they are about to toss Elite Specializations, new weapon/armor mods and a new class into the mix, likely taking us back to the unbalanced mess it was at launch in 2012. Good times ahead.
Truthfully, they should probably keep the Elite Specs and Revenant out of ranked play for the upcoming season just to give the devs time to balance them. That would protect the integrity of the current meta and all the hard works that’s gone into getting us to this point in balance.
Not having a ranked soloqueue does create a lot of frustration, even more so when good soloers eventually hit a brick wall in leagues vs premades. I would even see soloq vs premadeq as different gamemodes, as theres potentially a lot of variables between the two, why make it unfair by pushing them together.
I used to be a power ranger, now not sure anymore
1. Balance

Everything else is secondary. End the ele meta, fix the upcoming chrono/scrapper OPness. HoT will be a test to see where we stand. Theres obviously going to be some unbalanced stuff at launch, cant really avoid that (well alacrity and the crazy uptime on it is kinda obvious but nvm), it was a very tight schedule. If the fixes are done in a reasonable timeframe, we are on the right track. If it takes months, there is no hope left any more
P.S. im against soloQ and i solo-join 90% of my games. better not to split the playerbase too much – its not only solo or 5-team, people queue with 2/3/4. Maybe adjust MM system, slightly increase the weight of team size and it should be fine.
We had soloq and it made pvp worse overall, removing it was a good decision.
1. Predefined builds that are chosen before match start like moba style hero pick.
This would mostly fix premade vs solo problem, because greatest advantage comes from teams structure imbalance. Solo players most of time end up with teams that have bad composition and that is why they lose to premades.
At least they could change how dailies are realized to eliminate profession stacking – it is simple task, but why do that? Better throw more money to “e-sports” and that will make e-sports lolz. Sry but this little thing show how things are not analized.
Predefined builds won’t happen fast or ever ,so just face the premades, because solo queue will never come back. They can’t afford creating separate queue for teams because, there is no enough teams and queue times for teams would hit the sky.
DotA 2 is one of the most balanced MMOs/Moba’s there is. If it wasn’t for that, Dota 2 would have fallen to the League of Legends dust.
But you forgot the most important rule: ARENANET STOP TREATING GW2 LIKE IT’S AN ESPORT. Not a single one of my friends takes Guild Wars 2 PvP seriously because it has so many problems with bugs, balance and exploits.
You cannot become a sport without a supporting community, period.

LoL is 5x easier to play in comparison. They have numerous more characters but they’re either tank, power, or support. Nothing complicated about it other than item buying (dota) and the usual forest roaming and team strat rotations therein.
Your friends can’t take GW2 PvP seriously because it’s too hard – too many meta builds with different fundamentals in each. If it was easy, tell your friends to make a team and win $400,000. There are no bugs or power creep preventing that (until hot releases :p)

Are you serious? Wow, it is always fun to see * people popping out.
I really like the direction Blizzard’s Overwatch has taken. the game is about to hit beta, and it’s already got more foundation in place than gw2 has accrued over the last 3 years. they basically said “we’re interested to see player’s reactions to the game, and we’ll observe where the players take it…if it’s esports, we’ll be ready to support it. but our priority is making a fun game.”
even though I bought HoT (almost entirely because of Irenio and what he’s done for the ranger in such a short time), it is very likely i’ll be spending most of my time in Overwatch once the beta weekends start. I do feel that, for once, gw2’s devs MIGHT have a vision for its pvp, but it will take another 1-2 years to actually implement. and it will have to be conquest, NOT SH. gw2 might be in a good place another 3 years down the line. but the approach was just so very wrong out of the gate.

Your logic is flawed. You are equating a convoluted UI/rules/gameplay system with competitiveness. This cannot be further from the truth.
GW2 is convoluted – too many animations/particles that blur the screen, skill spamming with low CD’s (causing way too much screen frenzy), and skills being balanced in conjunction with PvE (ANet is NOT a PvP-only developer). These factors combine to make GW2 PvP borderline unwatchable from an observer’s standpoint, cause a lot of slowdown on lesser rigs, and generate a greater dichotomy between “Meta” and “Non-meta” builds (offering less game diversity).
The key note to remember is that all of these points detract from GW2’s PvP userbase. The userbase and # of people playing is key to the competitiveness level of any game/sport/activity.
Here’s a real life example: the aforementioned principle is why the game of Soccer is more valued and competitive worldwide than, say, the game of Darts, Bowling, or a more complex game such as Rugby. There are simply way more people playing and watching Soccer.
GW2 PvP is not to the point where LoL, DotA2, Heroes of the Storm, Hearthstone, CS:GO, etc. are. GW2’s userbase is not nearly as big and thus the game is not as competitive.
This, in a nutshell, is why people don’t take GW2 PvP seriously. It’s not because it is “too hard.” Its simply because it is difficult to watch (too much screen clutter), its interface is too clunky (way too many spammable skills), and the game isn’t dedicated to balancing on a pure PvP scope (huge dichotomy between “meta” and “non-meta.” These combine to make its userbase too small and thus nobody takes it seriously on a competitive level.
PS – ANet is making some good strides though – putting in a larger prize pool for its tourneys and reducing animation effects and screen clutter with the HoT release is definitely a start.

As long as heroes aren’t stupidly op the picking/banning mechanic takes care of any imbalances in the game.

Well put. Though I don’t have an issue with clutter or watching tournament play, I can agree that others could, especially in skirmish plays and gw2 may not be as easily readable compared to other games.

Actually the only thing they need to make it bigger is just make it WAY MORE enjoyable to watch a match.

With scrapper its just 1-2 traits being far too strong. Overall its in a good place and the buffs they got where needed (gyros, hammer leap fixes). But something like Adaptive armor GM, that kitten is crazy, 20% condi reduction and basicly perma 500 toughness on a already very bunky profession – compared to other stacking buffs its MUCH easier to maintain full stacks and the effect is stronger. Every other stacking trait is ~5 seconds max with usually a harder requirement (dodge etc), AA is 10s, procs on any hit and only 1 stack needed for max condi effectivness. Something like currently very strong meta soldier engi can just switch to marauder, double its dmg and suffer no loss to defence.
But thats besides the point, its all about how fast and how good they react to balance problems post launch. Good balance, good class/build variety, everything else is secondary.

You can’t push most people into team play at least not in a game the requires five people. You would be surprised how hard it is to find five quality people. I have two friends that I spvp with fairly often we have tried to find people to play the other two spots you would be surprised how many flake out or quit after a loss or two or just disappear. And its really more then 5 you need because life calls sometimes. 5 people that can afford to just play whenever on a whim thats a fantasy for a lot of people and in actuality is a small group of people thats why you see so few 5 man dedicated groups.

It’s like saying GW2 is balanced because everybody can pick d/d ele.
This right here is the reason that DOTA2 and LoL are “balanced” the picking and banning part of the game covers up the actually AWFUL balance in those games. (If we count balance as heroes being equal in the hands of equal players) TI5 for example, something like 25-30 heroes were never picked and the top 10 were pick/banned nearly 100% of games. Items saw the same terrible distribution.
However, MOBAs have a much easier time balancing due to the slower nature of the games and the tiny skill pools available to each hero, not to mention that you don’t have “builds” that can totally change how each hero works.
The only way for GW2 to match this type of balance is if they made a number of preset builds for each class and those were the only ones you could pick in PvP AND they allowed teams to ban a certain number of builds before the matches started.
Half the problems mentioned here are your fault if you deal with them. Such as the particle effects. You can adjust those to nil in the settings.
As far as the disingenuous claim of other games being so balanced, well that contradicts their own companies claims. They implimented the ability to block another team out of access to specific characters due to balance disputes, and stated that as a reason. If your going to use comparisons to make points, the least you could do is be honest about it.
I agree with the poster about spelling “rules” correctly. If your going to claim to be pro (while offering no evidence of it) it does help to use the spell check. The clearer your statement is, the more likely it is to be properly comprehended .

LOL, you really have no idea what you are talking about.
I love League of Legends (hate the community), I think it does a lot of things significantly better than DOTA2.
But there is a reason why DOTA2 is around and hasn’t fallen into the bad moba void and that is the balance. In the world series, 104 champions were banned out of the 108. Yeah.
GW2 you will never see a ranger competitive play right now. So far they don’t offer anything that other classes can’t do better.
You will never see in this competitive play meta:
- Burn guard
- power/cele necro
- condi-mesmer
- thief without a shortbow
- power or condi warrior
- engineer using anything but rifle
- staff, scepter/focus ele
There was a person earlier that said GW2 was well balanced? Sure, 87.5% of the classes can be used in competitive play (which is actually pathetic, you couldn’t get the ranger a single competitive build?) but the warrior cannot go anything but bunker, thieves are right now the ‘wanna-be’ mesmers that are only around for fast decapping.
Keep in mind I’m saying competitive play, staff bunker ele is a joke of a bunker. Just because you have something that works doesn’t mean it can’t be outplayed. This is why in Legend of Legends 90% of the champions will never get banned despite so many being statistically good. There is a massive difference between being weak and having weaknesses.

I am honestly not sure if you are saying that GW2 is balanced or not??
If we are talking competitive play then DOTA2 and LoL have very few real options for which heroes are selected and what items to purchase on those heroes. Sure you can find a single person in a massive tourney picking a niche hero but the same is true of GW2 tournies and builds you label as viable but weak (Staff Ele).
It is far harder for ANet to balance classes with a couple hundred variables than it is to balance heroes with 3 or 4. I really think for GW2 pvp to take off ANet needs to create defined builds for each class and teams pick/ban them like in other competitive esports games.

While characters in Guild Wars 2 is more customizable, every single hero in DOTA or champion in league has scorns of more data to consider.
Lets look at the simplier game, League of Legends, here is the stats for the support champion Alistar.
Health 613.36 (106)
Attack damage 61.112 (3.62)
Health regen 8.675 (0.85)
Attack speed 0.625 (2.125%)
Mana 278.84 (38)
Armor 24.38 (3.5)
Mana regen. 6 (0.8)
Magic res. 32.1 (1.25)
Melee 125
Mov. speed 330
They have it set to the kittening 3rd decimal point.
The (parenthesis) is the calculations for the champion level, not only does every single champion in League of Legends is attemptably balanced at level 1 but also 18 more levels. That’s not even considering items or other abilities.
Here is a fun fact about League of Legends: League has a scaling critical chance instead of a flat. Bonus internet points if you can tell me why that is so vital in competitive play.
By comparison, Guild Wars 2 is pathetically balanced.
Why have a base 1,000 precision? For what reason do you give every character a base 4% critical chance? Are you really going to give every character a small critical chance just for Sigil of Rage?
Why does Rampage transformation take 25% less damage?
Why can you blind an Elementalists Tornado?
Why does Updraft or Overcharged Shot have no casting time but still has to be cast unlike Mantras, which also have no casting time but can still be used while disabled?
Why do shatters have no clear animation?
Why are there so many bugs?
Why are there still weapon show exploits?
Why does blue side get the advantage in Spirit Watch?
Why Skyhammer?
Why did ArenaNet decide to destroy the PvP community with Dhuumfire?!
There are just no excuses for a lot of things, sure, a lot of these can and will be fixed, changed or improved. But I have very, very little faith in the combat design team after BWE1 Chronomancer, it’s almost like they have absolutely no focus in any combat design or just lacking creativity :\

There is only one surefire way to balance a PvP game – make every player play the exact same class, at the exact same level, with the exact same stats and gear, on a completely flat playing surface.
Sound good?
I agree with predefined build balance much easier to do while splitting PvE.
On the otherhand the league worry me.Because it be so much unfun that you are match in server with great fluctuate Ping between team. So condi spiking and CC lockdown team is very effective. Because it’s one way to make sure that opponent don’t have time to react. And that’s is nofun builds.
If it no fun people will not play it.Even with threre best stuff in game at the end that’s too hard to attain. Surely E sport = Fun.

QFT. LOL has 127 Champions and over 300 items. If we want to get into difficultis in balancing, I think the permutations of 127 champions with 300 items is much higher than GW2’s 8 professions and 20 amulets. Not to mention Nova’s point that during the game the character scales to 18, not to mention that summoner’s have 3 different skill trees to twink their character, not to mention a rune book….
Oh yea, and League has a solo queue and 32 million players…
I stopped reading at “this game is horribly unbalanced”
This forum can’t even make up it’s mind as to what’s OP. Every thread I’ve seen so far about X class being OP, has just as many people shooting down the notion as uplifting it.
Looking at the class forums every single one has is full of people talking about how every other class has it better.
Protip: players will never believe a game is balanced. Humans by nature always try to find the optimal way, which in gaming means that players will always find some way to declare one class better than another. The fact that perceived class imbalance also makes a good scapegoat for why one lost contributes too.
