E-Sports(playerbase point of view)
there are reasons why not many play teamQ
there is nothing to win so the effort to get a team and traininggames and … all the stuff just wasted time
and there are a lot reasons why people dont watch tournament streams – cause you see nothing than only effects
and for me personaly – since i stopped watching streams the game makes much more fun again^^ + i dont care for E-sport, more for the fun
I watched the starcitizen 1 year aniversary stream yesterday, someone asked about guildwars on the matter of releasing the game when it’s finished compared to their game in development.
The developers laughed, and didn’t name guildwars as an mmo but actually found GTA5 more of an mmo then GW2 ..
I rofld so hard.. then a cried..
E.A.D.
Ok and how are we going to get more teams and more viewers? By just…doing it?
By that logic, lets fix world hunger by all becoming vegetarians.
dont rlly see your point, srsly.
How you goin to get more teams and viewers? Maybe by changing attitude towards esports in GW2?
I mean all i can see is whining. Anet screwed up its PvP from the start, when it had a lot of teams. It cant be ressurected since then.
I see only 2 ways to solve this problem:
a) player’s donations towards eSports
b) changing attitude towards eSports.
You wanna donate? Fine. Personally, i dont see any point in this.

Money won’t make bad PvP (to play and watch) worth, well, playing and watching.
The whole esports deal is to turn the game into a kind of TV show.
GW2 will never, ever, ever (short of a ‘fire everyone, hire new people’ miracle) get the fanbase watching to make that remotely worthwhile.
Sure Anet can chuck money at people for winning tournies… and a number of people will sign up… but as soon as Anet realizes they are getting jack kitten back, the game will flop and die harder than before (since now they are completely broke, along with being bad devs)
GW2 devs can’t make good PvP.
It’s came and gone, a year went by and the game only got worse to play and even less competitive.

I find the combat extremely enjoyable but I think the population is the main issue preventing anything from moving forward. I’m not sure why but everyone I brought to this game just couldn’t get into pvp, even though I’ve pvped/still pvp with them on other games. I think it’s a very hit or miss style of play for a lot of people.

I have no idea where people got the idea that the community is the problem. Its incredibly far fetched. If the pvp in this game is good, people will play it.
So what do we need to move the game to healthier state.
- Properly balanced combat. With classes that are easy to get in to and hard to master.
- Classbalance (i think this is allready good enough atm).
- Enough incentives. Maybe some gold and materials for long term goals to keep people playing. I would love to see the possibilitie of obtaining legendaries that are usable in both PvE and PvP at the same time.
- More (interesting) gamemodes. More focus on deathmatch types of gameplay. Quality smallscale skirmishes need to be the main priority instead of playing around objectives.
That’s because every major tournament has wads and wads of “ANET SUCKS” “NEVER GONNA BE ESPORTS” being dumped onto the twitch chat…
They don’t want to think and play, they want to blow things up. Conquest is too difficult for them, requires too much communication, and isn’t as satisfying as just killing the other team.
Mobas dont’ really require as much communication, so much as knowing the game inside out and making good individual decisions with itemization, ganking, and pushing intelligently.
Trinity MMOs are very straightforward, and while this is good for the player, the game looks bad when spectating. There are a huge amount of cooldowns too, so it’s not as easy to shoutcast since each player is responsible for an enormous amount of different skill use. You’d have to focus on the key plays, but those aren’t very easy to see when matches don’t last very long (SWTOR) or it’s just a slugfest with way too much sustain (WoW).
The point being that GW2 is very high level in concept, but that doesn’t sell when the competition is just boom headshot simple, or like Mobas where it’s like an e-football game

IMO, no one watches tournaments because there aren’t teams worth watching. Only cheese comps

I quoted you in the other thread too. I think this is a big point. It’s a lot less stressful/more manageable to soloQ in a game such as LoL or Smite than it is in gw2. I’ve been playing a ton of Smite lately and if there is a lack of communication it’s not nearly as devastating as it is in the Conquest style soloQ games of GW2. Most people join soloQ because it’s fast and somewhat competitive, but there’s also a lot who join for the convenience and just don’t really care about strategy. In Smite, even if that happens, one or two players who understand the game and strategy can still win a match.

When Anet a) finally realises they have to separate the balance of the game into WvW vs sPvP and b) hires a proper balancing team that actually knows what they’re doing, perhaps then, we can start looking forward.
As of right now, sPvP is in a very dark and cold state, where it’s just filled by rubbish traits, rubbish balances, forcing certain classes to play very limited builds. Even more so, the difference in having Skyhammer and Spirit Watch on Solo Queue but not Team Queue? Speaks volumes by itself of what they want to be tourney viable, but encouraging cheese builds instead.
More Petting Zoo anyone?
I suggest a campaign of mass-hypnosis so people start thinking, wow watching gw2 is awesome, instead of the what the hell is this orgy of skill spam and lights ? And how the hell i’m supposed to see any counterplay in this spam ?
