I can’t honestly say I’m sorry to hear it. Hopefully, ANET will make decisions that are unaffected by eSports concerns or eSports players.

The only decisions they made were business decisions, i.e. what makes them money. The company never seemed like it cares about its game, how else would it end up so FUBAR on so many fronts even ESL cancels it.

I am glad it’s gone now they can work on making pvp actually balanced and not just making do to meet the next esl deadline.

But it has already done some damage by putting off quite a few potential pvpers so hopefully they can recover.

Wrong – balance quality won’t go up. It can be only worse. Like i said earlier pro league players where the first ones find something op or broken…they driven to win, fought for money and generally mechanically more advanced then rest of population. So now when they gone…devs have extremely harder job to balance the game.

It’s easy to now notice that there wasn’t any pro league event for half year – no real pvp balance patch for half year.

And sorry dudes – 90% balance treads in official forum are thrash. Clearly when you read them. Autors lack mechanical knowledge of their classes, other classes, no rotating so they prefer to suicide against their legitimate counter or have 0 knowledge about it …and they made tread about it. Never ever devs should balance anything based thrash balance treads ( i don’t say every single one is that bad).

I thing is easy to say now that nothing will happen in balance until expansion. No esl – No real feedback. No real feedback – no real balance updates.

Surprised it lasted this long to be honest..
Especially after all the EU players spamming the same stuff every day on: Twitch, Forums, in game, and every where else they can….

“Oh you don’t play on a European server? pfft not worth our time”
“Oh you play that class? pfft not worth our time”
“If you don’t play these 3 classes you don’t belong in pvp”

End up scaring off a lot of new players with this petty elitism which is hilarious by other mmo standards, then you wonder why no one wants to play.

Of course, it’s not all on them… ANET did enjoy putting people in charge of it who clearly did not have their best interest or the communities at heart…. How often did we see garbage said or done that any other gaming company would have revoked their rights?

Hopefully with this financial break, more things will be done. Those who are actually players of the game and like it will stay… those who were only in it for money (lolz) should have left long ago, if not, they will now which is fine.

“That is the sound of inevitability.”
The Pro Leagues were pretty much doomed from the start, a gimmick perhaps designed to pump up PvP. Having watched a few of those ESL streams, I have to say that the high end players are quite impressive.

However, since PvP in GW2 was being pushed by those individuals, real world realities set in. You simply can’t design a game or game system around professional level athletes and expect it to fare well.

Look at ALL real world sports. Look hard. Baseball, Soccer, Basketball, even car racing. Any normal person can play them and/or can relate to them. But it takes hard work, skill, a thorough understanding of the rules, drive, and talent to truly excel, to be a professional athlete.

Point being that these games, these sports, were designed to be played by nearly anyone. Which is where the pundits, especially in this conversation, EPICALLY FAIL. PvP should ALWAYS have been designed around the median player. You do NOT give a teenager the keys to a Ferrari… ditto for say your average person over 60. Not unless you WANT your Ferrari WRECKED.

Do you take input from the high level players? Absolutely, especially if money is on the line. That’s the level where exploits and questionable builds are going to be rapidly identified. Professional car racing is a great real world example of this… many of the safety features used in YOUR car were pioneered in racing. And as far as exploits… the Audi Quattro design leaps to mind. Look it up.

But again, you don’t let the professionals make the RULES for the game. You don’t let them have control of the game design. You take their input, examine it, analyze it, modify things as necessary to improve the system. You use them as testers to rapidly identify problems in the PvP setup. Which then improves the game for EVERYONE.

Seeing as ESL has closed GW2 down, I’d have to say that my argument is pretty much unassailable. The Train has come into the station, and rolled GW2 PvP underneath it.

Nuff said.
