ESL interested in GW2 e-sports
competitive and dedicated teams have already tried this aspect of GW2, only to whither away due to boredom, horrible management of spvp, and lack of balance in general.
The only thing he states is that he is interested in getting Guild Wars 2 supported on ESL. I don’t see e-sports support for Guild Wars 2 mentioned in his post at all.
ESL has three different kinds of leagues/tournaments: ESL amateur series, ESL pro series and the Intel Extreme Masters. New games like Guild Wars 2 become part of the amateur series first. When there are enough competitive teams that are active on the site ESL will consider a pro series where a small amount of cash can be made. Only games that have a very big competitive community AND a huge spectator following will ever be consider for the Intel Extreme Masters, the esports part of ESL.
Guild Wars 2 still has a long way to go before they are even consider as IEM game and with the current state of sPvP it’s doubtful it will ever reach it.

You’re right about the current state. But the game is only 3 months old, you’re assuming it’s gonna stay like this for ever which I highly doubt.
I don’t think Guild Wars 2 has any chance of becoming esports any time soon.
I think the devs have set their first expansion as the milestone for all the pvp features that are required.
This way, it will lure back all the players that saw GW2 PvP potential but gave up on it because the devs had other priorities.
Yeup, Id give it a few months at least before deciding.
The interest in tournies and whatnot seems pretty small atm, but that’s just because the game is terribly setup for them atm.
After they fix that… more people will have a better formed opinion about it whether the PvP itself is worthy.
They’re interested in GW2 esports and there are still no private servers.
The negativity revolving around around Gw2 PvP, especially the notion of it not becoming an esport, is absurd. I know I’m not alone. I think Gw2 has great PvP (specifically tournys). Everyone complains about balancing, but i think that issues regarding this are honestly minimal. I think Gw2 is on the right track to becoming an esport, and this is a good sign.

I only just installed and had a first look at Dota 2,which is in beta at the moment.
The level of work and detail put in it in terms of e-sport capability make it look like it has already been out for about a year and GW2 is in closed beta in comparison.
GW2 PvP gameplay is brilliant i do agree however the game itself is lacking so much compared to others (even way older ones!) so at the moment if they don’t act fast and make giant leaps forward, noone will take this game seriously in the long term (remember what happened to WAR?It did eventually improve tons but people simply weren’t buying it).It is very difficult once trust has been lost.
Also, did i mention that if they bring the features PvP and the game in general is begging for as an expansion i will personally not touch it,like ever.
Also 2,Planetside 2,free game,“centralized HUD” tickbox of joy.Nothing more to add.

nor a serious ladder

Nor a player base LOL
I don’t think it’s ready yet.
It has potential, but it needs a lot of work before it’ll work.

Agree to 100%. The core PvP is amazing, the balance is almost as good as one can ask for. It’s “just” the core, key elements for e-sports/competitive gaming that’s missing, which is too bad but should hopefully be remedied soon.
Also, just want to get this out here. The complaints/whine about imbalances and how the PvP is broken and no one plays PvP any longer can just come from the people kitten on sticking to hot-joins. Because that is the single only place where you can actually find it.
Oh, and my team just finished it’s evening of tournament play (although free ones, lacked our fifth) and they popped like crazy! I mean instant pops all night long. Sure it is around prime time, but prime time is just that.. the time when the vast majority can play the game.
Want to finish of my unintentionally long post by saying “Hellz Yes!” to a GW2 League in ESL. Even if it’s just a amateur league. Can’t really expect them to throw us into the Pro’s/IEM right away.. And I think the community is ready for it, we just need the key elements for competitive play. hint ArenaNet hint
Well done for linking the post here!
For the rest, i can just agree with Rythgar and Niptease.
Primoridal (S1) & Exalted (S2) & Illustrious (S3) Legend
Some people must have skimmed over Peli saying he is interested not saying anything like, let’s make a deal. So I believe Anet should start to prioritize PvP like he said. And get a spectator mode, and private servers so players can practice properly.
Also a ladder would be the best way to figure out who really is the better players are and find out who needs to go to tournaments, not just who has a higher Glory Rank, or who has more QPs.
So pretty much Peli thinks GW2 has a chance, and he wants Anet to come out with their new features that will support their esports side of things.

Meh I dont see GW becoming a Esport for a very very long time =/ slow bug fixes/ slow balance fixes (if any) / just too much to fix and not much being done at a good pace…Maybe early 2014 lol…
