Earning Gems (--> arena tokens) through sPvP?
I don’t think they will implement a way to earn gems or (huge) amounts of gold in PvP. Here is the reason why:
PvP player has no gems but wants his own CA→ does not want to play PvE → spends money on gems → happy Anet
No seriously, why would a company implement a way to ruin their own business?^^
Yes, you can play PvE for gold (=gems) but they have other ways to sell their gems there (e.g. the Molten Alliance Mining Pick). Besides that it is easier to work for 1h to get the money for it and buy it with gems than to farm in PvE for several hours. That’s why a lot of people prefer to spend money.
I am positive anet announced that gems would be a reward for winning tournaments months ago in a video they released. Can we get a response on what happened to this?

You kittens don’t even know what the prefix “meta” means.
you should be able to use glory points to purchase stuff. I’m rank 30 and already have pretty much all of the rank 30 skins and had like 50k glory leftover that i just used to buy chests for dyes.
Buying arena tokens for glory would be okay (great even) but buying Gems for glory wouldn’t be in my opion.
could be awarded for tournament wins or to top ladder players fosho.
make dyes and sell them …..
but geting gems for glory would be very good
I think the majority of MMO games out there with a PvP component are reluctant to include major rewards simply because it is too easy to game the system through collusion with the opposing side. Although glory → Gems would be a nice idea I fear this would simply lead to kill farming or swapping victories back and forth until both sides had accumulated enough glory to convert to Gems.
When anet said they’d introduce gems months ago, they did, but they got rid of it.
If they reintroduce gems, they should only reward it to the top 2 teams in a 16 team tournament.
That way, it strongly discourages pve’ers to farm pvp events for gems, because only the real pvp teams will be earning them.
Heck, bring back tournament tickets as well.
The problem with pvp not becoming esport is because people don’t see the same people that often, and a 16 team tournament, the top teams will see each other often and people getting beaten by the top teams will recognize who they are and why they are the top players by getting there butts kicked by them.
I never played against lil davinci never got wooped by him, so how do I know hes one of the best out there since I never seen him play against me before?

You do know that spending real money, or spending in-game gold, to buy gems are both equally good for Anet, right?
If more people are buying gems with in-game gold -> the cost for gems gets higher -> more players will want to spend real money to buy gems, because they can sell them for more gold.
I am pretty sure 1000 people buying gems with real money are better for Anet than 1000 people buying gems for in-game gold. So no, they are not equally good for Anet.
Back when the game was released 100 gems were only like 50s, now they are close to 3g. Guess why? Because most people buy them with in-game gold instead of money. This is one of Anets attempts to change this situation and make some money.
I’m pretty sure they’ll reintroduce Gems as rewards once they give us daily/weekly/something tournaments.
No idea when will that be though, hopefully with next patch we get that + splitting queues now that the two big things (CA and spectator) are finished.
Once they implement a working tournament system they might introduce gems again I think. By “working” tournament system…I am not referring to 2 round “tournaments” we have now.
They need to create a tournament system that is at a specific time/weekend event. It should use glory as an entrance fee or something along those lines and properly ranks you with people of similar skill+is separated from pre-mades.

People who buy gems with in-game gold, are buying them from other players who have brought gems with real money to sell them for that gold. If a new system comes in and makes people spend more in-game gold, the price of gems will rise, which will make other different kind of people, even non-pvpers, to buy gems with real money more often, because they can make an higher profit that way. So yes, buying gems with in-game gold will indirectly give anet more money.
Also, gems’ prices have been stable around 1.7g, before the new online shop items popped up this month. After the new items, it increased to 2.7-ish, but has been that way for days. This means that, even though more players have been buying them in-game gold from other players, more players have also been buying them with real money to sell them for gold.
Anyways, this is a bit off-topic. :P

Find me that video where they say that this game was going to be an E-Sport?
Oh, wait, let me guess, you only find videos where they say they will try to make the game an E-sport?
Thought so.
OOOOOOOOPS!
i doubt they will bring back gems through sPvP, they already states sth like that in the last SotG.
Also , you don’t need an Arena to play sPvP.
There will be plenty of Arenas to play on , some major gaming leagues will host them, as well as, most PvP-Guilds.
So the way to get an “own” arena would be to join a sPvP Guild and then you can simply spend some silver / month to supply that guilds Arena.
