See I think I figured out why they haven’t nerfed ele yet (aka fix burning)

You see, they made an entire elite spec based around burning and if they nerf it they would have to fix that. That would mean they have to fix not one but two things. And A-net clearly needs to make some more stronghold maps, so they don’t have time for that.

Please skill/trait split and give control to the PvP team. Karl is fucking killing us

In the past 2 WTS tournaments, Cele Ele D/D have performed the same.

  • Kings of conquest mode 1v1’s
  • Extremely resilient to the point of being a tank in 1v1 and 1v2 scenarios
  • Very few weaknesses compared to other classes
  • Moderate team supports when syncronized
  • Able to leave immediately in clutch situations
  • Great mobility

Burns haven’t played that big of a role in WTS/ESL tournaments compared to what Eles already were. Those QQ’s are from solo, unsynchronized teams running in and out of fire fields, but that’s not to say human errors don’t occur. 6 to 9 burn stacks from just RoF can still happen, it’s just rare seeing it. All the same, it adds salt to the wound,

First it was Might, now it’s Burns. It’s easy for the community to single out a recently changed mechanic but that’s not neccessarily the reason why Eles are stronk.

basically all shoutbows and celestial engis have switched to eles so it’s only logical that you have that many now because what else should they play if they want to keep the same role.

and why have they switched? because their builds have been trashed instead of keeping them alive and viable and the same will happen if they trash ele. maybe it’s gonna be 2 necros next or whatever is good enough.

pre-patch burning on cele ele was about 650ish with 25 might, now its 2.5k a tick .. that means all it takes is 2 stacks to be over the old burning damage amount, which is INCREDIBLY easy to get, the CF passive alone gives you 3. Burns make ele op right now, perfect passive dmg for them while they swap attunements before coming back to fire/air for more damage.

The core sustain has stayed the same because cele hasn’t changed much for them while burning has allowed them to “compete” with the burst dmg contenders. Cele ele now does insane condi dmg with burning while also being able to get decent numbers on BS / FG still. Nothing has changed much for ele obviously other than that, although you would consider ele "squishy’ they have amazing tank due to protection from earch swaps, great condi clear that also pairs with doing amazing dmg since burning is good (passive CF AND active CF), great regeneration coupled with SW and Regen boon + SoR passives and also they have more blinds from BA aside from simply dodging in air now which also makes them seem more tanky , because blinds completely nullify damage and good eles use that very well (see phantaram and his blind usage , it’s amazing).

Eles are much stronger right now and it’s mostly because of the burning damage uptime and BA alone have pushed them up way higher than before, they have virtually everything and only 1 class is arguably able to safely hard counter it right now and that’s cele necro. Really between watching Noscoc and Phanta duel though they can be 50/50. Although this is in 1on1s, which won’t happen much. In teams? Eles are godlike with soft cc , hard cc , regeneration , AoE boons and with warhorn coming it’s going to be insane trying to fight ANYBODY with a WH ele next to them with the amount of stuff they’re able to provide with that set.

Sorry not sorry. You’re wrong. Skilled teams with the luxury of being able to choose just about any player and any comp they want still overwhelmingly choose to run double Ele. The entire reason I decided to start playing Ele after being an Engi main since beta is because lately it’s been so strong you’d have to be brain dead not to be able to bring it whenever you don’t have one. It’s not a matter of overpopulation, it’s a matter of strengths vs. weaknesses… and Ele has a lot more in column A than in column B.

Teams always ran the same – its just that other cele builds got nerfed and now cele ele is the only viable one so they run 2.

The problem is – as it has always been – that if you nerf the standard d/d build too hard you take the complete ele class out of the meta. Because that’s all they have when it comes to viable pvp specs.

Realistically Water+Arcane+Cantrips needs quite some nerfs, but for that to happen they would have to rework and rebalance ele defense away from those 2 traitlines into the base class (or give ever trait line some actually competitive defense and make other utilities viable).

That’s fine with me, I rather see change than a class that is the king of PvP for long. I’d love to see ele out of meta for once.

Yeah, but they all PLAY Elementalists so of course they don’t want to loose their God Tier level of abilities.

The Mesmer players are also in the same delusional camp. It’s entirely skill and not any kind of unbalance from their perspective that accounts for their near invincibility and ease at which they dispatch all other classes.

And it is to their advantage to try to convince the developers of that very idea so that they do not loose their superiority due to re-balancing.

You reference ele’s heavy representation in wts 1 and 2 as evidence ele has been overpowered this whole time though this is simply not true. Before this big patch ele was pretty much perfectly balanced and here is why. What you completely neglect is what happened after the second wts which is very interesting. Abjured completely reworked their comp dropping both of their eles in favor of guard and warrior. oRNG also dropped their ele, Blackjack, which one of his posts on this forum indicated that the reason was their belief that ele was falling out of the meta.
This was a time when ele’s meta build was dead on as the median for the top builds for each class. Shoutbow, dp thief, and cele engi were the top 3 used on every team. Then it was debatable between hammer guard and cele ele for the 4th and 5th slots with shatter Mesmer not far behind. 4th/5th out of 8 classes is the median which should mean balanced, unless you are the mindset that everything was op. But then everything needed to be scaled back.
So what changed? Ele got extra trait points like everyone else, the only relatively major change that came to them was burn stacking which actually benefits eles much more than other burn heavy classes due to how attunements work. Almost all of ele burning comes from the fire attunement. Pre patch if you ate all of the burning skills, you could wait out the attunement, then cleanse and get about 10-15 seconds without needing to worry about burning pressure.
With burn stacking, if you eat a drakes breath, you either need to clear the 4 stacks quickly or you will take all of that damage. After which, the ele can still easily be in fire attunement, where you can get hit by maybe a ring of fire, a burning speed and with the new reduced cd, a second drakes breath. (yes you would have to be dumb to eat all of that) Before that would be about 15-20 seconds of burning but you could use one cleanse after they leave fire and you would only take maybe 5 seconds of actual burning. Now the burning does its damage so quickly if you aren’t cleansing nearly immediately you are taking lots of damage. This forces multiple cleanses for one fire rotation which largely eliminated the downside of ele being unable to stack burns out side of fire attunement.
