I think their damage is tolerable in comparision with other professions but it’s still way too high considering how stupidly tanky they can be. Speaking of their sustain and tankiness… OMG… it’s absolutely off the charts, it’s even stronger than what we percieve considering all the damage flying around. I think ele is the strongest profession right now. Mesmers can at least die.

haha and you probably haven’t met an S/D-Ele yet. :P

I’ve tested out tons of builds with the Ele, but S/D is just sick….. S/D was IMHO always the better weapon (ranged, more burst, harder to get interrupted, which is getting more important now, tankier…. the only thing it’s worse at is with condi-dmg and cleave, if the fire-combos are down)

But now, with higher base-power and perma-fury on almost every Ele build possible (Arcane Fury, Elemental Contingency, Persisting Flames, Pack runes if it fits the team), I absolutely love S/D. Also, almost every class got better condi-removal, so if you’re having problems with burning-stacks, you’re either running a wrong build or are at the wrong Situation. :P

Also, there are some traits that seem crappy, but are insane on S/D, like Arcane Precision: With the perma fury, I can put perma-weakness on a target.

S/D also works better with the tankier earth/water/arcane-build, cuz you can actually stay out of earth longer without missing out on crucial skills, so you can pop stone-heart easier at the right moment.

I feel like I’m tankier than the tankiest S/D-build before the big patch and I burst about as hard as if I’m running a Zerker Amu – it’s pretty insane actually.

No clue why everyone runs D/D: it definitely is strong and the fire trait-line fits a bit better on main-Dagger, but IMHO, S/D is way better in teamfights and as a more tanky option.

*Edit: I’m not sure yet if a nerf is needed, since Interrupts got way better and are definitely not properly used yet (and they hurt Staff and maindagger immensely), also, mightstacking is still very very useful and classes with good Boonremoval got stronger.

what annoys me on ele currently is the fire water arcane build with all the passives that cause burning. it is not very fun to play and not very fun to play against but still quite effective in soloQ.

the earth spec is fine as it is, just a tanky support.

@Jekkt: Yeah, I don’t like the blind on burn either: it’s just dumb, no skill involved most of the times…..

I absolutely love stone-heart though, because you obviously want to switch through the attunements to get the buffs, but once you’re out of earth you might get spiked, so it’s a constant tension and you really have to keep positioning, CD’s of other players etc. in mind to use it properly: An example of an IMHO very fun and skill-intensive trait! GJ ANet! We need more of those and less of dumb procs. :P

Maybe I didn’t put it right: The ones you mentioned are situationally OP and there are very clear-cut counters to it: S/D has no real counters and is excellent in every situation.

Ranged, very mobile, high sustained DPS, high burst, Stability like crazy, condi-removal, very tanky, hard to burst, very high sutstain, very high teamsupport, one of the hardest classes to interrupt properly, a good S/D Ele won’t simply eat corrupt boons either but blind you/CC and burst you down etc.
No other build currently comes close IMHO….. but thats just me. ^^’

And yes, I main Ele and I main S/D and I wanted S/D to become viable again for a long time, cuz it’s so much fun to play – but I don’t like playing an OP class/build either. :P

if you’re talking about a fresh air s/d with marauder then it’s trash, lacks active defense and if you’re talking about a celestial s/d then it’s also trash because you lack ranged dps counters like ring of earth from dagger or whirling winds and earth4 from focus.

maybe it works in yoloq but believe me it doesn’t work against good players. if you face a shoutbow that actually knows how to play shoutbow, yes there are some rare species than can do that, the longbow pressure will take you down eventually, even if it takes time.

Yes ele is the best as it has been for at least half of the games life span. And dont forget they have massive mobility. The tankiness and damage is completely ridiculous and it makes an full term bunker not viable at all. It kills build diversity in gw2 pvp just as much as mesmer/thief kills the build viability of other damage classes.

you are overexaggerating, d/d ele doesn’t bring the same amount of healing and on demand cleansing as a bunker guardian nor quickness. before the patch it was slowly dropping out of the meta because of shoutbow and the superior healing/banner.

d/d ele only has crazy burn damage if specced for it, that d/d ele won’t be nearly as tanky as an earth ele.

d/d ele is probably harder to kill than a bunker guard. In fact it for sure is. Not even close.

Nah it doesnt. A big thing too is that an ele can get away and heal up then come back. Bunker guard cant do that.

No clue why everyone runs S/D or D/D. My staff ele can easily kill almost every spec out there

Try staff ele with arcana/earth/water (DS, cantrips) with celestial amulet, privateer runes and bloodlust/battle sigils.
Since new patch everyone is bursting down each other so you’re almost guaranteed to have full 25 stack of bloodlust after a first few initial fights, and that’s when the fun starts.

Plz anet don’t nerf bloodlust, I’m having way too much fun. \o/

I did read it, the trait states you gain 150 power in fire attunement, it doesn’t state you gain 150 power in each attunement and 150 more in fire, so 300 in total. It’s bugged, your point? Yes, I would like to see nerfs to some things, not to something that’s crucial for ele, your logic is quite flawed. Not wanting some specific nerf doesn’t mean I wouldn’t want any nerf.

Just checked, this is correct. It’s bugged, and will add 300 in fire, 150 otherwise, currently, even though it doesn’t state it.

No it doesn’t work like that. It’s in fire only. And it doesn’t add 150 in other attunements. Swap out of fire, your power goes down 150. I think grim and I know what we’re talking about when it comes to ele. K? K.

Switch fire for another line and your power will go down by 150 in air/earth/arcana, switch from fire and it will go down by 300, it’s pretty easy to check. So either you just want to flame or are trolling.

As for ele, I honestly think this has lots to do with burning, which needs to be fixed. Also, the fire line adds 150 power in each attunement + 150 in fire, that needs to be fixed, too. Not fan of Blinding Ashes either, don’t like traits like this, same goes for Diamond skin and Stone heart, they provide quite too much sustain for the ele. However, at this state I’m not even mad since there’s just too much damage around.

I don’t know how to feel about people saying s/f fresh air ele is the best spec atm. Like really.

Until you see the 3 hits Burning speed only deal 500 damage each. That ele is using a pure Burning Duration build. People need to realize what’s OP is neither Ele nor any other class. It’s also not Burning. It’s the Burning Duration runes/sigils, which is a 65% raw damage multiplier. Without the Burning duration runes/sigils, the above burning would be 21k, which is not OP anymore.

Gray out the HP for future condition damage
Already quit PvP. Just log in here and there to troll.

I didn’t think this patch would buff ele however I turned out to be wrong. I still do believe that this is almost entirely due to the burning changes, which when I made my predictions were an area of uncertainty whether they would be a buff or nerf. Simply tone down burning and ele is in a good spot. Very few of the traits have changed, none of the skills, and only one trait was made baseline it is very much the same ele that was falling out of the meta before patch only with the extra grandmaster everyone received, and insane burning damage.

Actually the math regarding percentages above doesn’t give an accurate perspective, because you didn’t calculate in the base level 80 stats. It’s true that Celestial amulet will be buffed, to give an overall 13.14% stat advantage over someone using a 3-stat amulet. However, this an increase of only 1.01% from the 12.13% stat advantage that Celestial has today. This math was done with the assumption that all current trait lines give you 70 stats per point invested (50 + 50, but multiply that by 0.7 because only 7/10 of the stats that trait lines give you are stats that amulets can increase). Full math breakdown below:

Old Formula: Base + Trait + Amulet
Old Base: 916 * 4 = 3664
Old Trait: 70 * 14 = 980
Old 3-Stat Amulets: 3664 + 980 + (932 + 650 + 650) = 6876
Old 4-Stat Amulets: 3664 + 980 + (932 + 650 + 451 + 331) = 6988 (1.63% advantage)
Old Celestial Amulet: 3664 + 980 + (438 * 7) = 7710 (12.13% advantage)

New Formula: Base + Amulet
New Base: 1000 * 4 = 4000
New 3-Stat Amulets: 4000 + (1200 + 900 + 900) = 7000
New 4-Stat Amulets: 4000 + (1050 + 1050 + 560 + 560) = 7220 (3.14% advantage)
New Celestial Amulet: 4000 + (560 * 7) = 7920 (13.14% advantage)

For 50 ticks? That’s actually fine. If it was a single tick for that much it would be a problem, but that’s 50 ticks of burning on you, shame for not cleansing it (not you specifically but whoever that was). 50 ticks of burning is a lot, especially when you have 0 context for the fight. 50 ticks means that burning was there for a long time, maybe from multiple sources and such. Also we don’t know how long the fight actually lasted nor how many people where there. For a 1 minute fight (10 seconds more than 50 ticks) that’s pretty OK in my book.

I did read it, the trait states you gain 150 power in fire attunement, it doesn’t state you gain 150 power in each attunement and 150 more in fire, so 300 in total. It’s bugged, your point? Yes, I would like to see nerfs to some things, not to something that’s crucial for ele, your logic is quite flawed. Not wanting some specific nerf doesn’t mean I wouldn’t want any nerf.

Yes you are right its bugged. 150 power is maybe 5% more dmg and eles dmg is pretty crap in anything but air or fire as you know so I doubt this is really a major issue breaking the class currently. Let’s not try and imply that a class needs a nerf because of a bug, this seems like your intention but perhaps I am wrong. I think it’s reasonable to be concerned about how diamond skin works if youre running in pubs since you might not have a good comp vs it. Stone heart is probably sort of annoying if youre on a mesmer or thief so i can feel your pain, but come on is stone heart really op? Is diamond skin really op? Are these traits breaking the game? Id like to think not, not by them selves anyway. Id like to think that its a conbination of a class with superior bunker capability while also being able to exploit the current burning mechanic.

Ele damage is not crap, it’s actually quite high if you go fire on celestial ele. That’s partly due to burning, which needs to be changed. Everyone has higher damage atm, I’m not saying it’s only ele’s problem. All I did was pointing out that it needs to be fixed, the class is getting additional 150 power for no reason.

Diamon skin needs a rework, it’s a badly designed trait. Stone heart just provides too much without much effort and it’s a partly passive trait. The damage decrease is quite high due to the fact you’re not able to proc fire and air on the ele.

Then Tempest defense should have a higher cooldown, it’s quite low for what the trait provides.

actually this is WRONG. and stop mis-using the word meta people. burns arent even meta right now. burns on engies, guards and rangers are perfectly fine.

burns on a bunker who can maintain 20-25 stacks of might permanently is STUPID. cele stats are fine, they just need to nerf might stacking more.

Sorry, I missed that. But what do you expect? Spec into defensive trait lines and be able to do insane damage? It’s not like ele is underpowered, it definitely has some stuff that could use some nerfs/changes.

I do not expect anything of the sort. If anything needs to be reworked its burning across the board before we decide how to tone down the class.
