Elite skill balance
Don’t be so quick to judge. Basilisk venom + lyssa runes are probably the single best elite skill in the game. Warrior signet is close with a 48 second traited cooldown.
Just because an elite skill doesn’t have particle effects and a huge, awesome animation doesn’t mean it’s bad.
You also have to take into consideration that elites are balanced for the class as a whole not one-to-one, that’s where a lot of people make mistakes when assuming imbalance. A lot of Warriors run with that signet, its a relatively low CD, works well with Lyssa, plus gives them long swiftness/might/fury(?), which allows for some good burst, which affects everything else they do as well. While yes some stuff are imbalanced (Moa for 1v1, Supply Drop 1v1) overall the issue isn’t as large as some would believe. Some are just never going to be useful unless they become grossly OP like the warrior Transformation. Its good, TONs of CC, but you can’t use your heal through it, and people don’t typically enjoy playing with transformations because they can be quirky to use. Its not a balance issue, its a gross preference issue there, and not much can be done to help that except giving whole new abilities.

Every class is different tho. a 1.5s stun would seem almost worthless on warrior, but on a teef thats all you really need to kill someone
I’d like if they removed transformation elites, they are horrible. They would be better if their effects were toned down and the skill works similar to a engi weapon kit. So transformation elites would become like a 3rd weapon set to classes who have them.

I use all three Elite skills on my Thief…..in fact 4 if you count the Asura Assault Golem…on a regular basis.
So they all seem to serve a purpose.
I’ll admit though that a bug part of what makes Basilisk Venom good is the synergy with Lyssa runes. Without that synergy it isn’t all that great
What I find most unfair though is the lack of real group support. I’d gladly replace Basilisk Venom for something more interesting along the lines of Mesmer support skills.

Those are the kinds of elites that are more like the original GW1.
And I wish they were all like that.
Not these wannabe long cooldown IWIN buttons, where you pop it and become super ultra mega overpowered for a few seconds.
I prefer short cooldown elites. Aside from Lyssa Runes being insane.

I think both have a place. As a necromancer, I’ve always thought my class should have gotten an elite well on a shorter cooldown (40 seconds to 60 seconds) over Lich Form.

It doesn’t take a year of experience to point out design flaws, just like it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to see good and bad ideas for what they are. Our criticisms during beta were no-less valid because the game was still in beta. We didn’t need a year to figure out that some things were very wrong with this game.

Me too, I prefer elites you structure your whole skillbar around and are regularly used rather than ones that make you awesome for 20" every 3 minutes, it makes for more interesting buildcrafting. The worst of these is Moa tbh, it’s incredibly overpowered 1v1 but once you’ve used it you might as well not have an elite slot!
Moa buffs Ranger’s pet. If you Moa Ranger pet, it’ll eat you alive.

They’re all pretty strong… Tornado for heavy CC, greatsword for damage, and the the glyph for all sorts of utility, don’t know what you’re talking about…
I do wish there were more elite options to base your build on, I do like my transformation skills for their damage/utility and because for the most part they aren’t Iwin buttons, but I’d LOVE to see skills more like Master of Magic, or Strike as One, and other short CD elites that define your build.

Tornado to lock you out of all your preservation ability without any sort of defense if anything around you has stability, greatsword to lock you out of your weapon skills for a mediocre increase in damage that’s highly telegraphed and has no cc, and the glyph for really bad AI that doesn’t do significant damage and serves better as a meatshield in PvE.
No one uses Adrenalin skills?… Have you seen Hammer Longbow?
Basilisk venom is awesome, especially with Lyssa Runes. 1.5sec stun can be all the time a Thief needs to kill someone.
You want to talk about unused bad Elites, how about the Guardian Tomes.
Let me read you a book and cast these incredibly slow clunky spells while I err get CC’d and focused.

I would like it if in the next balance patch some devs could take a look at the current elite skills.
I agree that Elites could use a bit of tuning, but you have chosen a poor example. Flesh Golem is inferior to Basilisk, and Signet of Rage is at least comparable to Golem (depending on the map).
Ele needs a good look on their elites.
Supply Crate, Plague Form, Spirit of Nature, Warrior Banner, Moa Morph and some others are good candidates to look at for alteration or outright nerf, because they are simply not interesting or fun.
Basilisk venom is a 1 sec stun on a 45sec CD not 1,5 sec.

i may have not given the right examples, but my point is still the same, i think most players agree that elite skills need to be looked at.

The stone duration is 1.5s unless the patch screwed this up too, idk haven’t played since pistol whip was ruined.
1 of the better balanced elites imo, all should be like this and less like the eng loliwin elite. Another good balanced elite is mesmer aoe stealth.
They should be small advantages not some insane OP crap.

You have an AoE blind, KD, and launch while in the tornado and your health bar doubles, if you’re using your Tornado for 1337 damagez or when the entire team just popped AoE stability i’m sorry you’re using your elite like an idiot and thus getting poor results.
Fiery Greatsword has some really hard hitting skills, not to mention a teammate also gets one, and if that teammate is a ranger, congrats you just created the most borken thing ever because his scales now scale like everyone elses instead of the kittenty scaling with power they have due to “pet taxes”. And if you didn’t know… there’s nothing to stop you from dropping your sword so you can use your weapon skills… i mean kitten if you’re in a 1v1 you still got that other sword laying on the ground that you can pick up when it’s safe to do so…
Bad AI, yeah, they are pretty stupid, but one thing they do is spam their AoE buffs, so fire gives you might, earth gives prot, water gives healing, and storm swiftness, not to mention it gives you a meat shield to hide behind if you’re fighting a ranged enemy…

FGS good for the teammates bad for the elementalist. The elementalist losses a lot of their utility for 5 skills that are on a 60 second timer and only 15 charges. Most of the benefits of FGS is in PvE where you can bug it out.
Tornador turns you into a giant target with no defenses.
Pets are decent, but they are not great. they don’t do that much when you compare to other classes, since the earth and water are too slow, the air and fire are decent since they are highly telegraphed.
This is an mmo forum, if someone isn’t whining chances are the game is dead.

I don’t know what you guys are talking about with no defenses, if i’m in a team fight and use my Tornado it’s strong enough to turn the tides with that pulsing blind and launch, not to mention the health boost, are you guys using no vit armor or something?
Also, popping an aura as you are activating Tornado is very effective since it persists in the tornado, so you can use that for some help to survivability.

Even on melee characters I pretty much see Tornado as a free target. Everything it does is on a set interval, it can be blocked (even reflected if you’re getting hit by the lightning etc), dodged, blinded, snared.. I quite literally hate losing all of my skills to gain some kitten effect that has so much counterplay it’s not even funny.

Double health means little when your base survivability is bad. Being subject to every form of effect except what stability counters isn’t too great either. I don’t expect Tornado to kill people in just a few hits, but I wouldn’t mind if it actually deterred them from being near me even if they have stability.

Ok, so basically what you’re saying is that it’s great for the person I give it to as a temporary source of damage, and that if I want I can leave it laying on the ground as a clear telegraph of my future damage output source. The damage is so easy to dodge on FGS that if you’re fighting somebody who knows how it works you’re pretty much only giving up your weapon skills.
Bad AI, yeah, they are pretty stupid, but one thing they do is spam their AoE buffs, so fire gives you might, earth gives prot, water gives healing, and storm swiftness, not to mention it gives you a meat shield to hide behind if you’re fighting a ranged enemy…
The buffs are minimal and the meatshield aspect is pretty much pointless because their movement patterns are so predictable that it takes no effort to sidestep one. What use is there to be near my Fire Elemental to gain from the aoe might if it has low base HP and will die too fast to accomplish anything? What use is there for my storm elemental if it can’t even be a meatshield/stunbot because of low HP and bad aim? The redundant swiftness isn’t bad enough? Ice elemental has a heal CD of more than 20 seconds iirc and you can’t control it, meaning it could potentially be wasted due to bad AI. Earth elemental has no significant damage, and the only effect worth of note requires you stand near it. In PvP it can pretty much be ignored.
