No, Ive never wondered that because in any game all the pub scrubs flock to the easy-mode class. Thieves have a capacity for high skill, but you dont HAVE to have that skill to play it. Anyone can plug in a backstab build and insta-gib 80% of hotjoin pubs.
If you didnt know that already this must be your first time pvp’ing in an MMO.

I had to laugh last night @ the all thief p/d pre-made that we faced in tPvP. They were super gimmicky, but managed to keep the score fairly close due to their imba stealth. That said, we had 2 good bunkers on our side and we were able to lock down two points pretty easily and secure the match.
As for the OP: yea, there are definitely more thieves and mesmers lately, but what can you do? ANet refuses to level the playing field for other classes, so either join them, or leave.

Wins match, complains that stealth is imba and then says this. GG biased, community is biased.
Its because the glitch/faceroll builds are about the only ones that are even viable for half the classes. I just started to do pvp on my alts (mainly my engineer) and I don’t want to do the grenade glitch build but guess what its the only thing that is even slightly viable to counter all the backstab thieves and shatter mesmers. And they are probably in the same boat of having to play those builds due to all the 100 nades engineers ect.
If this game is balanced only by high level T-play then continue enjoy your small and diminishing PvP community.
I still see all the professions in PvP but you are right, there are more thiefs and mesmers compared to a few weeks ago.
The main reason I think players like to play these professions in PvP (and the only reason why I don’t like playing against them) is stealth. It simply has no counters. That’s why these 2 professions are the ones which can be played as a glass canon without being easy to kill.
=> high kill potential, “big numbers”, easy escape = a lot of players play these 2 professions
Use a channel skill, or a trap/well, or aoes. That counter’s stealth very well. Remember it is invisible, not invincible.
Many counter’s to stealth just most people don’t realize it.
Thieves arn’t bad, its the people abusing the easy kitten spammable stealth that is bad, which is why I use a build that only stealths once every 45 seconds because I got tired of reading stealth nerf posts but also because my build hardly relies on any stealth what-so-ever. Stealth on thief, beleive it or not, is optional if you’re willing to be creative enough (and is quite fun).

No way to balance a team based game on 1vs1, it’s clearly nonsense….tpvp is based on teamfight not 1vs1, 1vs1 is pretty useless…if you are fighting a bunker guarding a point 1vs1 without backup coming you’re wasting your time, if you engage someone outside points 1vs1 you’re wasting time….all you can do alone it’s just contest free cap points without fighting, going 1vs1 in other situations it’s 90% of the times a bad idea….
Team based games are not meant for 1vs1…it’s just like trying to put a ferrari and a jeep in 1vs1…..one is good for something, other is good for something else, is this so hard to understand? Stop play hotjoin zergfest and go tpvp…you’ll se how classes have to properly work in a team…not just zerging around like chickens..omg that one kills faster than me he’s oppppppppppppp QQ…..please……

Thief backstab combo hasnt been touched for several months, and we quit when planetside2 launched =) Just tried it this night, Mesmers are strong, but still stuck with glass cannon shatter spec, I play mesmer and would like some more viable options. Overall problem is either bunker or glass to kill bunker which is boring and leaves out options. That has been a problem since launch. Balance fix + fix premade vs pugs but with no players left balance if the biggest issue. When balance is fixed, market the game somehow to bring old players back and organize ranks..
So, I’ve seen alot of people saying that you can still hit thieves / mesmers (yes, those have stealth too, we need more plx) when theyre stealthed, so how come no matter what CC theyre in . knockdown, guardian ring, immobilize , they go poof and appear 10 seconds later on another spot…
I know this is a SPvP thread but nerfing stealth also affects WvW, so tell me its not annoying to chase a thief for 1 minute (probably has the 25% movement speed sigil) , finally get him and then he goes “poof” permastealth for 30 seconds and hes gone, completely….
Lets not even start with being stealthed for about 20 seconds while in down state, so either the teammates rezz him, or you just have to stand there for 20 seconds doing nothing until he pops up again….
Oh, and a smart thief will just pop invis , dodge behind you and not give a single **** to your auto-attacks, sounds awesome….
Hitting them with AoE ? Why should I even care as a thief ? I just stay stealthed until I got my heal back (another stealth btw, yay) or run away and reset the fight, sounds awesome
The main reason you’re seeing an increase in tournament mesmer players is solo que is working alright.
These players are coming straight out of hotjoin and are delicious Glory, They’re QUICKLY realizing 4 mesmer comps don’t work, so just wait.. most of these mesmers are not here to stay.
Oh and if you got beaten by a 2-3 mesmer comp it’s cause you’re not an organized team or something.. hard comp to play almost as bad as 3 thief comp or 5 guardians.
