Everyone with 100g gets a Legendary
Havent rank points in spvp been increased or am I trippin?

Edit: Posting this reply in the OP
They’re going to boost everyone r55+ to r80. A PvE example would be:
Everyone who has 100g in their bank account now automatically gets a legendary weapon.
Because you know…legendaries were too tough to get and if you have 100g you must surely deserve one. As for those who went through all the toil to actually craft a legendary old style…sorry! You get nothing for your special efforts and you have to stand around while people who put in 10% of your effort get the same rewards as you.

There isn’t a single PvP r80 player in existence yet.

I think he’s confusing rank and level.
This post is lol.
How dare ANet make high ranks realistically achievable!?
What an OUTRAGE!!!

So you’re ok if Anet gives everyone with 100g a legendary “to make it more achievable”? And don’t get stuck up on the figure 100g. Understand the sentiment behind the post.
Oh god, it’s gonna be frustrating playing against people with dragon who have farmed it in hotjoin.
Hotjoin has caused soo many problems in gw2.
It destroyed ranks and the bit of ‘prestige’ it had.
It destroyed queues quite a bit too, because if you can farm it in hotjoin why bother queuing?
It destroyed people skill and understanding of the game. This gets fixed after playing a soloq/teamq a while, but still….. Solid foundation? Throw out hotjoin.
You can now monetize pvp-players in enough ways with the newest additions (april15th), please let hotjoin go.
As for prestige… I hope you get your league/ladder thing right. The tracks as of now are a great addition, and the ways to add prestige/exclusivity in pvp are pretty obvious with these tracks and talk of ladders.

Horrible analogy. A good analogy regarding PvE and PvP would be boosting a rank 1 player to 80 or something along those lines although 80 in PvP is much less achievable. But in that regards, I would love there to be no ranks in PvE and everyone at 80 since in PvE your level is actually a time gate to better content while in PvP you’re not time gated between anything regarding rank. So rank in PvE is much more important while rank in PvP is meaningless. You’re rank on the leader board should be the one shown. Rank is just a way for chappy players with no skill to feel good about themselves while people who are actually good can boast about their leader board rank and don’t give a rats kitten about their number rank.

I suspect you might be one of those individuals who feel that rank means nothing. In which case I invite you to pit your r10+ team against my r50+ team. Good luck.
But you haven’t explained why this is a bad analogy to start with, so I’m not sure that you actually disagree.
Removing ranks and keeping the finishers was in fact the original idea.
People complained because there was no reason for that exclusiveness to exist. Some players also wanted to keep that kind of long term goal in sPvP, even if it doesn’t make any sense for a competitive game format.
Ranks do not equate to a better player just wanted to get that out there

Yes they do. Try pitting a team of r50s against a team of r10s and tell me how it goes. It’s a myth that ranks don’t mean anything. I would any day prefer to have higher ranks in my team compared to lower ranks. Anyone who has PvP’d for a decent amount of time will tell you the same thing.

All you are saying is, this group of BAD r10s will lose to this group of REALLY GOOD r50s. Yes there is a HIGHER CHANCE the r50s are better because they have played longer, but I have seen some REALLY REALLY REALLY bad players over r50, and some really good players below 20. And plus this isn’t changing anything below r40…like honestly it still takes time to get there….

That quote would have merit before the skyhammer farm. But I’ve seen horrible r50’s and 60’s. Truly horrible, you could see hotjoin all over it.

This is amusing given most of the people with dragon now have done it at least partially via hotjoin, not solely tournaments. Now it gives people who solely play tournaments a chance to get it w/o losing their social lives.

When that “higher chance” is something like 98%, it’s as good as certain. Simply put, you can’t be good if you’re just r10+. You don’t have the experience.
I don’t believe that no one who is now r70+ has never touched skyhammer rank farming.
Before they buffed the rank points in tournaments, you would be playing well over 8 hours a day to manage to get r50 only by playing tournaments.

There is a threshold when you have the experience and then it is just a matter of who is better and who has played more time.
I think that this threshold is r40.

This is a flawed comparison because
A) Grinding 100 gold in any method does not take several hundred of hours like rank 50+ does
B) A significant percentage of PvE players have over 100 gold as opposed to the percentage above players 50+
I don’t believe that no one who is now r70+ has never touched skyhammer rank farming.
Before they buffed the rank points in tournaments, you would be playing well over 8 hours a day to manage to get r50 only by playing tournaments.
Uhhh….no. I’m rank r51+ and the vast, vast majority of the cumulative rank points are from soloq and teamq. Everyone has touched hotjoin at some point of time. It doesn’t make them an outcast.
I cannot agree. Rank is all relative, as long as everyone is bumped (save for that very small number who are already 80) than it doesn’t really matter. Furthermore, it might allow for new higher ranks down the road…if this game lasts 8+ years as GW1 did, this is a possibility.
Furthermore, I would argue that the effort and time required to get to r55 is much more consuming than it requires to obtain 100g in pve, especially when some might get it from a boss chest. SPVP takes time and commitment, I am “only” just about to hit r51 and I have played a ton. So it isn’t as if those who hit r55 didn’t put in the effort.
I appreciate and understand the analogy, but if SPVP is to grow and prosper, we as a community have to accept changes; it’s inevitable.
Uhhh….no. I’m rank r51+ and the vast, vast majority of the cumulative rank points are from soloq and teamq. Everyone has touched hotjoin at some point of time. It doesn’t make them an outcast.
I’m r51 myself, but before they buffed the rank points in tournaments, I was just a mere r30.
Now to get to r70, you need approximately 5 times the rank point you have on r50.
Most of people who are now r70 were r50-60 before the increased rank points and you can’t reach those levels without farming skyhammer a little bit.

The reasons why we wanted to keep ranks around was so that we could distinguish the players who’d spend huge amounts of time and sweat in sPvP from the rest. This was why we had protested against your move to remove ranks.
You listened to us and now you’re telling us that a r55+ player will get the same treatement as an r70+ player?? You’re going to make rank points meaningless! Everyone can reach level 80.
If this is what you’re going to do, please go ahead with your original plan and remove rank points entirely but allow us to retain our rank finishers so that those who are at a certain level always have some recognition of our special efforts.
But please…don’t do this. I have spent hundreds upon hundreds of hours in PvP slogging to get rank points and get better finishers than everyone else. You’re just devaluing all my hard work for the past two years.
Don’t do it….please. I beg you.
No it isn’t the same as that. It’s more like, everyone who has gotten half way through this difficult dungeon will get the rewards because there was a number we miscalculated in the amount of time it should take you to finish it.

But again, that doesn’t make them an outcast. The fact remains that there are just a tiny, tiny number of people who are r70+, whereas there are thousands of skyhammer farmers. It obviously means there’s something special about them. They’re not the average farmer.
All I’m asking is for that “specialness” to be rewarded.
rank =/ skill…..you know?

Great. And what of those who put in the hard work to finish that dungeon in the first place? Are they not special? Isn’t it an insult to slug them together with everyone else? They don’t deserve that.
No one does.

They should feel happy that they’re getting boosted to the same rank as those who have put in 20% of the effort? In what universe is that fair?
Not sure what you are talking about, since when did ranks stop at 70.
I don’t really have a problem myself with people jumping to 80 because I like the idea of that goal being achievable. I think that everyone r 55 + should be. I also think it would be a good idea for a net to award everyone according to how close they were to rank 80 originally. Meaning if you were r 70 you should get a but load of rewards because of the amount of time you have invested and if you are 55 you should get minimal rewards for your time invested. But due to people being kittens and farming skyhammer this would reward mostly the wrong people.
It’s a shame that rank 80 was never an achievable goal and it’s pretty dumb that they made it that way. But I do think its a good thing that rank 80 is now achievable without a tremendous time sink.

I think I Disagree
This is a touchy subject, but I think I disagree.
I disagree because just like someone who has spent the time on a Legendary, times have changed. You had your time at the top, you put in the effort and it shows. It doesn’t mean that you’re better than anyone else (I don’t suspect that your saying that) but others have different circumstances and commitments.
Consider…
Think about it. Given enough time all those players who didn’t keep up with you would still eventually reach your rank. Is it fair to punish them because they aren’t you living in your circumstances?
Everything depreciates, just look at the trading post. 10g used to be so much money. Precusors used to sell for 30g. 30g wont even buy you a Sentinels ring now.
Conclusion
I feel that your time has past and you just haven’t learnt to accept it yet. You’ll have to find new ways to show off your dedication and love for the game. Which, by the looks, Anet is providing those kinds of opportunites for you.
Don’t punish others because you enjoyed playing the game. You made the choice to pursue something and you achieved it. You should feel proud but move on.

The current LB system is a joke. You can be in the top 50 with very few wins… It’s essentially luck of the draw unless you’re a try-hard and ONLY tPvP with a core team. Don’t even mention SoloQ LB.
Ranks do not equate to a better player just wanted to get that out there
If you were choosing between two people for a 5th on your team for a tournament that pays RL money… would you choose the rank 56 or the rank 21? I promise you… most people would choose the rank 56. Even up to rank 30… there are particular situations that an individual may not be experienced with. You don’t even really learn the maps thoroughly until rank 20 – let alone tactical advantages and counters on each of them.
Sure there’s a relatively small percentage of PvP players who farmed their rank with Skyhammer farm, but those are kitteny mother kitten kittenheads that should just jump off a bridge into kitten traffic. Ya feel me?
The MAJORITY of individuals over rank 50 are indeed more experienced than lower ranked individuals. To go a step further… Rank 60+ individuals have twice as many rank points as rank 50+ individuals. While the experience curve is much less drastic, those players are much more experienced than players in the 50s.
All you are saying is, this group of BAD r10s will lose to this group of REALLY GOOD r50s. There’s not a higher chance… it’s such a high chance that it approaches certainty. Similar to the .99=1 concept. Anyone in the 10s, even if they have complete knowledge of all professions won’t be experienced with meta tactical strategies, tactical and build counters, field awareness, etc… There’s just simply not enough matches played between ranks 0-20 to REALLY get a solid grasp of everything that’s happening at a given time. Even then, it takes practical application of this knowledge to know when and how the information is useful.
