Explanation to why conquest is only gamemode
They can’t balance conquest. You think they are going to do any better in 2v2/3v3? Hell Blizzard even threw in the towel on 2v2 balance.
I think the main problem here is that in theory it sounds pretty fun and amazing. But in practise its going to be veeery infuriating. Some classes simply perform soo much better in a 2v2 scenario. I’ll give just one example, double elementalist. Imagine you have to play vs something like a double elementalist, they constantly heal eachother, give invuls & blocks/reflects. There will always be broken setups that people will abuse. (Look at WoW 2v2 arena). You know what, they might not even be able to kill you, but you sure as hell wont kill them either.
IF you make a deathmatch styled gamemode, it has to be 3v3 as this is the easiest to balance, and even then i fear it might just not be very fun due to a few classes being OP beyond belief in this type of format.

2 Elementalists will never take over the node.
ON other hand, if you engage a node handed by 2 elementalists, you’re pretty stupid.
This game mode provide this kind of cancer by the fact the purpose isn’t to kill foes, but take node and prevent opponent to take ’em
I… honestly cant explain it since Conquest isnt the only PvP mode, there is TDM and Stronghold as well (technically also WvW which sPvP point based balance kittens up on a daily basis).
I dont care for smaller matches with 2v2, instead I miss the 8v8 Conquest mode we had in the beta. All they needed was a little bigger maps.
Yeah I think it’s kind of similar to how conquest was taken advantage of by some classes with healing and super speed, etc.
There’s just so much to consider in the process of balancing a new game mode. A TDM would require a entire different kind of balance. It’s very similar to the control node mode in LoL, some champs are just broken on there but you can’t do anything without affecting the main game mode.
Um, conquest isn’t the only gamemode – there’s stronghold too ^^

I’d say “how Stronghold panned out” is because ANet didn’t really support it properly. Nobody will care about Stronghold if the tournaments are only in Conquest. If, for example, ANet went for 4-6 seasons, alternating which mode the tournaments were in (so each mode would have 2-3 tourneys), then you would see a hell of a lot more interest in Stronghold.
Sure, people would still have their preferences, but right now, there’s no reason to get good at Stronghold. And when there’s no reason to do that, people, unsurprisingly, won’t bother to learn.
anet forgot that pvp is also supposed to be fun. people might have fun w/ a real tdm mode, but thats not anet’s goal w/ pvp
