I think this is probably one of the only valid criticisms of downed state. Will be interesting to see if there are any changes in this regard.
You mean the only valid one besides the fact that some classes have OP DS and others have rubbish?

having a way to let yourself go might need to be implemented.

Probably not a smart trend to encourage actually. It’ll cause them to buff downstate so it’ll be capable of downing players that ignore them.
Mesmer already has access to summoning an illusion that can do high damage while still downed.
And, I’m not entirely certain, but if I recall correctly, an enemy downed on point still counts towards keeping a point neutralized. If you don’t finish them, they deny you points. Anything more than 5 seconds, per, and you negated the point gain from killing them.
It’s pretty easy to bounce someone off a point and throw a little damage at them every now and again to stop their healing skill.
Yeah, this will be the tactic, even letting them heal a bit to recover, then bleed them down again, its the way it will go, why let a player get a res when you can control them, but nothing stopping them from logging out and back in again, to get to spawn with full health (cough cough, xploit), same for when you want to get back to your primary spawn point faster than running.
+1 for suicide skill! Its so annoying and unfair when it is done to you
This is a very legit tactic, but I would only advise doing this on your base objective and that you have good vision/voice communication. The last thing you want is for somebody else to come while you’re keeping another downed.
I’d support a suicide skill in these cases.
However, bumping a downed opponent off point requires blowback skills, and there very profession specific.
Thief, engineer, Warrior, and Mesmer also all have abilities that can potentially knock themselves back on point as well, leaving you bereft of a cooldown.
I’ve seen this trend start, and I’ve also have countered it. (Knockdown, Stun, Mass Invis, revive w/distortion on hand against interrupts.) Doing it can easily backfire on you if you’ve not downed their roamer, and you’re inviting yourself being focused.
Again, the trend will likely spark adjustments and then die out. Not something I’d grow to rely on.
Remove underwater down state as well, its such a clumsy mechanic
Its not a legit tactic imo! When you are beat you should be able to respawn. Not lie there while someone is capping your point. As an ele thou I can get back up on point and force stomp but still.
Once on my Ranger I swapped pets just before going down. Popped pet rez when the guy ran off to kill someone else, and he came back before I rallied. He just used IDuelist to keep me from getting back up, and you can’t cancel the pet rez without swapping pets. Watching my health stay steadily near the top but never going down, or reviving me for another 10-15 seconds, followed by him just letting me bleed out once I swapped to stop the rez really, really, really kittening annoyed me. I must have spent almost a full minute like that.
Legit tactic. You DO eventually die and they can’t perpetually hold you in the downed state. Also, a very simple counter is to ensure that you die ON POINT. Then they HAVE to kill you in order to cap.
edit: Unless they have an engineer that can bomb you off point.

Rez skill by team mate. Why everything can be countered in that game, why
1 thing to note here just to avoid confusion…rez timer is based on the match clock, not how long you’re in downed state.
I don’t think this needs a nerf.

Getting downed in water as a warrior, then going into vengeance, then getting downed while in vengeance, and going into vengeance again, ad infitum. For some reason sometimes when vengeance runs out in water it doesn’t kill you, just makes it so you have to surface again, which lets you pop vengeance once more.

It’s fine. It’s a meta shift. This is coming from someone who has not played a tournament ever but have followed all sorts of e-sports everywhere for some time. It happens, a tactic comes along and suddenly omg its OP till teams start countering it and it becomes the norm.
Especially one that’s as easy as this to deal with. We saw the slight trickle of stability/stealth/quickness stomps in mostly spvp and it won’t be long before we start seeing this for ressing too.
Give it a week or so and I guarantee you people will start bringing stability/stealth/quickness in order to res these people you leave in a downed state thus forcing you to start having to stomp them asap to keep them out thus beginning the whole lovely cycle again till in a few months a happy medium is found where all the strategies are viable and people change up depending on the situation.
People really need to look at things like this and actually wait a while before they yell and scream that its broken. The meta game of something like this changes so rapidly that something really isn’t ‘broken’ or ‘overpowered’ until it goes for a few months without finding a counter to it. Because once someone does then everyone counters it and suddenly its completely useless without them having to change a thing
1 single auto attack will put the downed 4 heal on cooldown. And you can knockback downed people off of the point. And only a few classes can port back to the point.
I think it speaks volumes when people want to keep Downed, but get an ability to kill yourself in Downed. Also its clearly not working as intended, my guess is keeping people in Downed is supposed to be more of a danger. Right now the risk vs reward aint really up to par to just keeping people alive after you..kill them.
Didn’t really read all the comments, but I wanted to say that imo there should be a rez timer after you use suicide skill, if they do implement one. Would be kinda stupid to have a button dat ressurects you instantly, would allow zerging a point. Say, 10 seconds, half of the max or the time that was left until the spawn time when you got downed? Of course, they can always make it res you on the next spawn time, but that would make downed state “fight until the res time comes, see if you can get something going and if you can’t just press the button 1-2 sec before the rest time so you don’t wait”.
That’s my opinion, at least.
Issue with the Suicide button: The amount of Stabs will be so minimal. If you can suicide there will be no epic battles over a rez because there is a good chance once its off CD they will use it. I mean i think everyone has been downed once or twice and have your whole team do some amazing moves to keep you alive and rez you. If a suicide button was implemented there would be no more epic fights over downing… people would just give up and kill themselves. And i don’t think giving up is the right answer. Yes, we all hate when we get bled out and get that 20sec rez timer and just late for another fight. But nothing feels better than deciding to hold a node (cause no one else will) and winning that 1v1or 1v2 and punishing them just a little more for thinking they had a chance. Yes i think downstate might need some tweaking just to make the penalty of trying to stay alive a bit less. But i don’t agree that giving up on the chance that one of my team members might go out of their way to get a rez on me.
If nothing else, The first time I down someone and finish the stomp and my Wolf Banner isn’t placed firmly in their sternum because they decided to suicide right before it landed. I’m stabbing a flag thru my screen.

They can’t keep you hostage. All a person has to do is not hit the heal button. Something many of the people in this thread seem to forget about.
If a bad player wants to keep hitting the Heal button, fine let them and than just keep knocking them down. I have done it many times. Good players will just let them selves die. There is almost never a good reason to self heal in a downstate in pvp. Exceptions to this are if you were able to get away or what not.
What needs to change is the fact that rezing happens at every 20 sec of the game clock. It should be more like LoL or Dota 2, were your rez timer starts when your dead (i don’t mean that the rez timer should increase as time goes on, that would just suck).

Its better to keep most players down than to let them re-spawn either ways. Considering for most classes down is as good as “death” as a form of CC. Every second kinda counts.
