Farm everywhere (suggestion inside)
Yes, I agree the rank grind is a little insane, getting max rank shouldn’t take years of playing daily, even if it is just cosmetic and doesn’t really matter. Not to mention that there is nothing to do with all that glory between ranks except craft dyes.
Holy crap. I’m happy that I’m still at low rank where I’m leveling up faster. I heard around 30 or 40 it starts to get a pain. They should have made it per character and then a bit faster… not per account.
And maybe in future some tournaments with more than 1 round with really big rewards in the last rounds… for the very good players and teams it could be become faster with this and others still can grind slowly.
Note: Glory is not Rank. Rank is about 3/4 of your glory per match if not less.
Really, I fail to see the point of even caring about rank anymore.. Since you can already get any loot available from the single round tournament chests, regardless of rank. Atm there is no tangible benefit to being high rank vs low rank

if you dont use glory booster, then no… but anyway, its not that big difference compared to 6 years of farming

really? can you proof it? i saw only free tournament and paid tournament rewards combined, nothing more… maybe some new weapons, but no armors

If it makes you feel better, pretend the high rank stuff doesn’t exist. It doesn’t impact the pvp at all.

or we can just pretend no levels exist and play only in starting zone with starting gear right? i dont think this could work… in both PvE and PvP…playing games isnt about pretending that something doesnt exist, if we could do it, we wouldnt need games at all, we could just pretend no games exists and spend our time with something more usefull…
btw you know that big part of MMO RPGs is customizing your character? and i like to do it in all aspects of game

You’re comparing missing out on a couple weapon/armor skins to missing out on 90% of the game’s content.
Is the problem that there’s not enough low level skins, or just that some exist that you won’t be able to obtain(in a reasonable amount of time)?
You do realize… that the grind… isn’t for gear… its for skins….
You’re complaining about having to spend a long time to be able to just look different while PvP’ing….
There’s no downside to a nigh neverending rank system if the only reward is cosmetic.
My favourite is the whole, sorry, you can’t join our team because the cheese grater hasn’t quite finished your face yet. If I were to make an MMO, the final gear set would be a cheese grater themed skin with chucks of the player slowly pouring onto the ground where they stand.

glory = gold in pvp terms.
PvP’ers farm glory
PvE’ers farm gold
If I were to go home after school at about 2:50, hopped on the computer and played hot joins until around 7 or 8, I usually farm about 20k glory a day. While taking a few break between that time period and using a glory booster btw. This is impossible now that I finally found a life lol jk. I just don’t have the patience to sit through each games anymore with my thief rushing to tag downed players. I gave up on trying to get nice 1 v 2s because it just wouldn’t count for kitten, no extra glory or nothin so.
Best way is to play against newbie players and have a good “zerg” going. It really help in the glory farming sometimes.
Proof: (first two 500 games(for me(parenthesisception))).
these forum posts get more ridiculous all the time. you’re grinding for a rank that just gives skins. it does not give you better stats at all in spvp. please explain to me where the grind for stats is?
getting better skins is perfectly reasonable for time spent. I’m low ranked but I don’t mind not having the perfect look. it doesn’t impact my game play at all.
ye its just for skins… and that means its even more stupid for it to take this much time… its just not reasonable… it would be more normal if it would give stat bonuses, because this much time for nothing at all is just silly, its like not having it in the game…
Elo based skins would be awesome.
Also, R40+ are just too long to farm

this is what im talking about and how it should be, not farm/grind based…
The amount you need to reach 80 is totally okay, but the way you get there is totally wrong.

thats the another way how to look at it… if high rating matches would give MUCH more rank points, it would be ok…
e.g. if a team plays on rating XXXX (players with percentile 90%+), they would get 10x amount of rank points, it would passively increase the rank value in terms of skill and made rewards a bit more accessible for high rating players

Yep, I targeted on the totally broken hotjoin-rank-farming philosophy from A-Net.
Progressive rewards in terms of winning strikes (HA-reward-system from GW1) would be also a good way.
The titles/ranks are optional and purely cosmetic. They also had this in gw1. I don’t mind. This isn’t grind, it’s a goal you set for yourself or it’s fluff while you play pvp.
It took 6 years in GW1 for one player to get the dragon emote.
Bring back: ‘Gamer’ title + MAT’s!
Throw out: Hotjoin!
having something cosmetic in a game 6 years before you isnt a goal, its a sign that if you have a life, you shouldnt even try to think about it…
PS: note that its not 6 years of casual playing, its 6 years of above average playing, 4000 rank points per day isnt that low

HA was way more competitive and harder to farm rank than hotjoin is nowadays.
Hotjoin is more of a “who has more time and no job” thing. In HA you could possibly play it 24/7, but without being good and having a good team, there wasn’t a chance to actually get the dragon.
So yes GW2 ranks are cosmetics, and no GW1 rank weren’t cosmetics.
i just read the SOTG report…
they said they plan the reward system revamp in the future, cheer lets just hope it will be as soon as possible and not in half year
