How to Condi Reaper on a budget
Everything I say is only in reference to PvE and WvW.

I played a disturbingly large amount of PvP in GW1 and my favorite game modes were Random Arenas, GvG, and Fort Aspenwood.
RA was tons of fun. Matches were quick, fighting was intense, and there was a lot of build diversity (almost too much, considering how rock-paper-scissors-lizard-Spock GW1 could be). I generally played RA because it was much easier to get to the fight and you didn’t have to worry about running into cheese comps, but matches had an irritating tendency to be decided by whichever side was lucky enough to have a monk. It could also stalemate indefinitely but after Anet added a timer and the general damage level went up, that stopped being much of an issue.
GvG was probably my favorite thing to do in GW1. There was an intense amount of teamwork and coordination needed to succeed and as I recall, it struck a good balance between the importance of kills and the importance of objectives. The big downside to this was that you needed to be in a sizable guild in order to GvG with any regularity, and matches took a really like time to set up.
FA always felt a bit gimmicky to me, but in a fun way. All sorts of crazy builds could dominate there and the trinity was less of a ruling force. I really liked the idea of asymmetrical team goals: one team’s just trying to stall and defend, the other team’s trying to apply pressure and take down objectives. The terrain also allowed for really interesting tactics and the secondary objectives could be gamechanging, but also weren’t typically necessary. The biggest flaws with FA, of course, was that it tended to be weighted against the attackers. It also took a really long time to get into matches, especially at odd hours.
Those were my favorite PvP modes in GW1. What were yours and why?

oh yeah, the bright past where everything was shiny and much brighter than today – even the future seemed better in the past

I feel as if you may have read just the title of my thread and not even glanced at the post itself.
Heroes’ Ascent Definitely.
If you won a round, you were cheering, but meanwhile it was obvious that this isn’t over and will just get harder and the stakes higher. Loved that feeling. Had gamemode variety, great atmosphere, progress, and a goal/dream, the Hall of heroes. To be the best out there atm be watched in observer, or you guild’s name to be advertised in chat!
Priceless!
Also loved Codex, we were always there at the skillchange time To make the craziest and msot OP build out of the worst skills given.
Or JQ, playing a bomber nec
Or AB, trolling around hunting for baddies.
FA RA AB TA
As the game went on FA became my favourite on both sides.
Attack and Defend is a fun format.

GvG and FA for sure! FA was a great place for trying out any build or just to relax and have fun. It was fun playing both sides. I miss FA a lot
GvG for tattics and teamplay
AB To enjoy random play with my little team
I miss AB/FA the most GvG was fun too.
GvG, the capture mode in HA, and FA. Particularly, with no dedicated healer in guild wars 2, FA would be even more fun than it was in guild wars 1.
JQ is the best mode for transfer.
FA is similar to the PvDoor gameplay of wvw, and gvg cannot be done in gw2 without changing the npcs significantly.
All of it.
Would be nice if Anet wasn’t so stubborn and just gave us what we want.
Ra was probably my favorite. You could play it with many differend builds and still have fun. That’s not quite the case with say SoloQ.
Also FA, especially when synching with a friend. Nothing like killing gunther before they bring their first ambers. They were like “WTF” and we were like “BOOOOM”. Gotta say, duo air of enchament monk was pretty fun too on the kurzick side.
Then again, nothing really beated glyph of renewal + iron mist on Luxon side… That’s probably the most fun I’ve ever had in Guild Wars.

I really loved playing my Trap Ranger in FA as Kurzick. I’d turn around and see a cloud of yellow numbers popping up in distance. Mmmm.
FA because you could run fun and unique builds that wouldn’t be viable or optimal anywhere else in pvp with great success. Grenth’s Balance spike necro, Symbols of Inspiration mesmer, paragons.
AB (prior to the period of time where it was on Grenz Frontier nearly 24/7 for months). Same reason as FA, large variety of fun and unique builds that could be run with success. But I think sPvP 8v8 hotjoin is pretty close to this format (with obvious differences).
I love RA, and still do.
Played quite a few HA too, but too bad team is always look for R6+, hard for newbies to start without some cheese at the beginning. Anyone ran ELEBALL before? that was so much cheese it was fun.
Team / Random arena, specifically TDM and kill the priest
The main problem with GW2 beside the lack of gamemodes, is rating.
You can’t just go into a soloque and play delighted, you constantly have to worry because you may lose rating.
I hope if they will finally add another gamemodes, we won’t have rating for them. ive some rewards for rating so that won’t die out and replace hotjoin with deathmatch/FA/HA.
Fort Aspenwood was the best this game had and is in my top three fav multiplayer modes across all games i’ve ever played. I’d pay them $60 just to copy/paste the same freaking thing in gw2, would work perfectly and i wouldn’t *$
for new content cuz FA is all i need.
My favourite was GvG, that is what i call competetive PvP.
For GW2 i wish for something like HA. Imagine you can earn nice PvE bonus (extra magic find etc.) for your server by winning HA, that would be so cool….
HA and GvG were top notch pvp.
But TA/RA/faction arenas were the most fun.
CA, didn’t play it much tbh to tell.

^this.
FA/AB and JQ.
HA became interesting to me when people cared less about build compositions wich would allow you to join a team quickly without waiting for a minimal r20 to join your party.
RA never interested me that much like SQ does now.
So.. FA or broke.
The times had compare to gw2 with my MM 13 minions running around.. watching the battlefield for dead players minion swapping with another necro. Minion UI!
ah man..
