So I believe this is necro specific but fear getting a HUGE animation. I mean how unthought out is that?
Its the worst visual cue Anet could think of. They could have written it in english F E A R !

Did warriors fear get this? It doesn’t say in patch notes.
Just saying necros downed fear doesn’t even work against noobs now.

I think its unfair that every other CC doesn’t get a huge visual animation cue as well.

What do u mean by other CC does not get a huge visual animation cue? If you are talking about Reaper’s Mark animation, it is justify unless you want them to nerf other stuff rather than just changing animation. This is a good way to change it and I hope more like this is coming.

Are you talking about just the downed CC skills? Everyone that has a downed CC skill has a pretty obvious animation. Warrior, they hold an arm back preparing to hold a hammer. Gaurds bring their hand out slowly before releasing their burst of light. Engineers hold their arm back similar to warriors and throw their tow line. Ranger thunderclakitten imilar to Gaurdian I believe. Everything has a pretty obvious animation, and if they have an invul/instant stability or blind (like the engineer flamethrower kit 5, which I love) they can negate your CC.

Fear is still instant so it doesn’t matter. Atleast now i can know whether i am being outplayed by Doom or Nightmare runes.

I am wondering the same thing Hyxorcisten…. I had to double check that the skill ‘Doom’ was still an instant, and it is. I do not see what the huge problem is about this skill.

3.4 sec cc vs .5 sec dodge or 1 sec w/e the dodge time is.
Plus no terror dmg and less 1 spam. Plus it pushes them off point compared to them dodging and staying on point.
Its way to animated no other downed skill has a HUGE ICON above their head.

Ok…if you are talking about just the downed state, I find every downed state has a pretty obvious animation. If you are complaining about the downed state necro having a bigger sign that you are using the move, I think it is proper because it is MUCH more punishing than just a knockdown/pull/knockback.

As for the instants…you are so confusing on your posts. Your talk about one fear in one post, then another fear (doom) in another. Why does it even matter if instants have a huge animation or not? If I am feared from the skill ‘Doom’ I do not notice because there is a symbol above your character’s head, I notice because my character is not responding to my keys and moving the proper way.

Please specify what you are talking about when you post….

I think the Asura argument is a little over rated.

As a Warrior, we have some of the largest animations in the game (rather easy to see what we were doing).

For the past year I’ve been playing an Asura because I assumed that it allowed me to hide my animations better.

With the latest patch and Effect’s getting toned down, I decided to test my previous assumption.

For the last 3 days I’ve been playing a female human warrior. At first I thought (this is going to suck). But at this point, I actually feel that it makes no difference. I land the same amount of attacks, I hit just as hard in the same range.

Mind you, these are against great tPvP players, so I would assume that if they had easier access to my animations they would outplay me, yet it didn’t really change much.


IMO, animations being on a readable level is important. Should it come down to the race you play? No, but they should be easily readable by any player, and thus punishable if you can counter it.

Well, arguably asura has many advantages from being small. Maybe too many? ^^
If a certain race has an advantage it’s wrong in the first place.
That the icon is bigger than your character is rather funny though ^^

Eh? The reason I brought up the fear caused by Doom is your picture you posted is the skill Doom I believe…… And my position for the downed state having such an obvious icon should remain, if it hits it is a 2s fear base and is much more punishing than just a 2s knockdown the warrior does.

I think the downed fear has always had an icon O_o, so it’s not a nerf, it’s bad design really if you dislike it. On a side note, imo, engineers have the worst downed state.

The animation for reaper’s mark and doom has been added, but the downed fear skill has always had the animation. If you look back it only talks about the staff skill and DS skill—it doesn’t mention the downed skill because it already had it. I am not disagreeing with you whether this is bad or not, just stating a fact that the downed skill already had it. :o

Completely disagree. I can’t believe people actually want less pronounced actions so that good players can’t counterplay them.

Most good players will stomp you with stability/blind anyways.

I want better pronounced cues not Giant icons over my only cc. Then every other class get way subtler cue for their downed skills and you can easily miss it with all the particles. You cant miss a necros tho. I see 5 guys dodge because they see the downed necros fear animation go up.

Why does it matter? If they are up close to stomp you, if they know the animation well, that makes no different to any other class. Besides, most of the other downed skill class is single target while yours is AOE.

I’m sure that the downed fear always had that icon when used. Doesn’t affect me though, still have my 2 instant blinds to stop your fear anyway (or my invulnerability)

^This, also so that viewers could see that some scary demon thing came out of the necro and feared the other play, not that the other player just ran off on a tangent for no real reason.

Its what I always hated about taunt. pokes tongue at enemy boss Enemy boss is now focused on killing that foe… Why? If I were an enemy boss and I was/ hitting the tank and it got health back I would be like … well that healer over there heals this guy and then I would proceed to 1 shot the healer unless the tank could get physically in between my Sword and the healers head. Don’t matter how many times you poke your tongue at me, that healer is going down.

Balance aside, this big fear symbol is kind of ‘lame’, if that’s the right word, not because i find it OP or whatever, but it just feels stupid, like i’m playing some Japanese or Korean RPG where girl animations pop out whenever you use special attacks or something.

It’d be much cooler if it turned us INTO a reaper for the duration of the fear instead of paste a stupid fear poster above our head.

This was one huge step in the right direction for A-net. We need MORE telegraphed skill animations – not less. Way too many, VERY important abilities, are indistinguishable from others.

Necromancer changes:
•Doom: Added an effect that plays on the necromancer when this skill is used.

Doom != Fear. Fear is your downed skill. It has always had the exact same icon on it, for as long as I can remember lolling at downed Neckros fearing the wrong foe or trying to fear blinded.

K watch the vid.
I will concede it may be there but do you notice the time? It does not appear until the cast is 3/4 the way finished. Do you see that or not?
As to its now instatly at the start of the cast over twice as easy to dodge.
If that does not make my point NO other prof has a giant icon.
2nd its very easy for players that learn necros downed skills to dodge it.
How you do this is simple. A necros 1 skill is chan and when they stop chan that means fear is inc.

There are actually a lot of animation to tell that Necro will fear despite there is a giant icon or not.

1/Necro stop channeling.
2/Necro raise his hand up.
3/Necro icon pop up

So it does not matter whether there is a huge icon over the top or not. The only thing that I can see that not work on your favour is you can not conceal your position because the icon will give you away. But if you have to use the Fear, it means you are getting stomped already and ops already know your position. So it s not a bg deal at all.

If you looked at the animation in the video or know the difference you will see you have less than half the time to react. That why I was able to get fears off. Now I cant. Which part is confusing?

Hammer stun is pretty good for team fights. It pairs with dmg big time 20%dmg 50% crit. Hey guys Im throwing hammer. Then they get 1shot. +rally on the 3
