Features GW2 lacks and other games have
I made a similar post for this a while ago. Another addition that this other game has is timed queue pops. It allows a greater pool of players for every game, hence it increases the chance of the matchmaking system doing its job.
- In game guides to every champion.
Now, imagine gw2 had half of the stuff I described.
Nothing else to say.
Lol at that point.
Also, I’m guessing you’re talking about SMITE.
And yes, almost all of the features would be a warm welcome in here.
Except a champion guide. Not like there’s any champions to speak of.
Custom games are coming though, with rental servers.
I wish they had kept the Halloween and Winter’s Day PvP stuff. They served the “fun mode” quite well, except it should be with normal player abilities instead of the fixed ones.
If you’re going to compare GW2 with different styled games, you might as well compare it with Counter Strike.
sure smite has more features compared to gw2, but gw2 is still 10x better than smite

u forgot random map rotation
“Don’t criticize what you can’t understand”
It also has voice comands so u dont have to be on ts to communicate with team…
As the core game itself gw2 is alot better but as far as features and competitive scene goes that game is lightyears ahead which in the end makes it more fun to play im sad to say.
The only way i can see gw2 coming back is if once they implement most of this things they do a free to play period to get in fresh ppl + sign out a tournament money reward like that game did to get the competitive community a reason to come back.

Yep you can defend gw2 as much as you want but a quick trip to other games that are in just beta will burst your bubble
Still i presonally prefer gw2 combat more..so imo it would be such a shame if this doesnt get where it could be.

That’s my point. Why a b2p game, with way better gameplay, more content, etc lack some of the basic features i described
Does Anet have access to work done by other ncsoft teams?
A more compelling argument would be to ask for features which are present in other ncsoft releases.
I fight people, sometimes they kill me, sometimes I kill them. Fun is had by all. [/quote]
1.) Custom games. Could replace hot-joins with custom games easily.
2.) A legit solo que where the odds are even for half the time at least.
3.) Infrastructure on some classes.
4.) Getting rid of anti-fun BS for new players and competitive players alike.
ANET is taking forever to get at least any of these done.
Thing GW2 has that other games it’s often compared to don’t:
- PvE
- WvW
At the very least there needs to be ladders, more game modes, and more statistics. The watching matches stuff is e-sports nonsense. Not that Im necessarily against it just that there is a laundry list of others things that are way more important. You can’t have esports with a pvp community that is literally a couple hundred people on a good day. Lets add the absolute basics that MMORPG pvp players have come to expect first to try to grow the population base.

I lol’d hard here.
“Don’t criticize what you can’t understand”
It’s not really true though. There are games with a lot of this stuff that are just more then PVP games. Rift, Warhammer, and WoW come to mind. They might not have everything listed here but more things then GW2 has.

Pretty sure you can pve all day in dota and be considered one of the greatest pubstars of all time.

because anet can make money without those features

True MOBAs and MMORPGs are two different animals, but spvp was sold as a stand-alone competitive pvp mode. A lot of people bought the game with no intention of playing PVE or WvW.
We thought Anet actually knew what they were doing based on GW1 which was a brilliant competitive pvp game, instead we get a game that is nearing 8 months out and it is still nothing close to what a company 1/5th of their size has been able to produce despite selling millions of boxes.
PvP in MMOs can go 2 ways:
1) GW1 or even WoW where people play it because it has systems that support actual competition and skill
2) SWTOR or Aion where pvp is not competitive and just another way to get pve rewards and grind gear
GW2 spvp fails completely in both areas which is why barely anyone plays it.

@jacobin
one of the best and briefest explanation so far.
totally agree with you!
Lately im not playing much gw2 so i have been trying other games I never played and I realized how many things GW2 needs to have some serious pvp.
Let’s compare it with a f2p moba game with mmo-style combat, from an average budget company. Nothing as close as LoL, dota or hon. The game im talking has a cheap design and doesnt look very polished, yet they have way better features than gw2:
- Player stats: all kind of stats, records of kills/deaths, gold from every game, many info on all the characters I played, summaries of my games etc.
- In game EU and NA ladders + a working and visible elo rating
- In game twitch.tv! (really awesome)
- An official twitch channel that is on 24/7 with top teams playing on it. It also broadcasts the tourneys the game have.
- In game guides to every character.
- Duels
- Host custom games
- Watch your replays and top players replays. Ingame.
- Games for newbies to train vs AI bots. You can also test builds there.
- 1 Competitive mode (like we have) + 3 fun game modes. The fun game modes are not balanced but it doesn’t matter because they are fun to play. They are also really easy to implement because they are spin offs of the main conquest mode like an arena map where players can play deathmatch.
There is also one game mode that changes every day, its an arena where players can only use 1 stated character. Eg: a deatchmatch arena where everyone has to play, lets say, warriors. Again, the fun game modes are not balanced and they dont need it.
- Penalties for afkers & leavers
- Solo and team queues
- A queue system where every team has always 5 players. Always. 100% of the times. People have to “accept” when the queue pops, really basic stuff.
- Some kind of weekly/monthly tournaments to qualify for a bigger one
- Voice Commands for people not using TS/skype
- If you are alt tabbed when game starts, there is a pop up that warns you
Now, imagine gw2 had half of the stuff I described.
Nothing else to say.
Player stats at end of game, a ladder for solo and teams, custom arenas and MAP ROTATION kitten are the most important issues for me personally. Replays and spectator mode is nice but whatever. I dont really care.
I would also love a working of the wvw system into tpvp for communication. Like you can put “attack here” on the map. Or better yet you can open a mouse operated voice comm system which says things like “Need help!” and then a “!” symbol comes up on the map. Or “All clear!” and a thumbs up symbol appears on the map. An example of this is the system from battlefield 2 or perhaps even from games like smite.

Number 1 issue for me and alot of people I am sure.

also experience gains in spvp are missing too, lots of other games have their bgs and give small xp gains and even gear rewards for your chars level as well.

Not going to happen though. They want to keep it separated from PvE, which is fine.

Then maybe it should be….separated….?
I really like the idea of calling it a beta and making it ftp.

Maybe. I don’t see how they would implement that though.

You mean because character creation automatically places you in pve so they’d have to redesign their system to some degree? Actually, that task might just be monumental enough that we’d never see it.
Of course………………………………..gw1 had a way to make pvp only characters……………………………….
I don’t really like how often this subforum points to gw1 and says “hey look! the answer to your problems!”

Wait…
Proffesion/Role guide would be bad for new players/casuals who are just starting to play pvp?
Custom games are coming though, with rental servers.
This is also good for new players/casuals who are just starting to play pvp? (I’m sure they will be happy to rent server)

Can you see the irony here?

This.
It is impossible to balance both (PVE and tPvP) at same time.
the ability to level a character in pvp to use in pve.
this has several bonuses,
1. it allows you to advance through levels with content you’re not fond of. (or are having difficulty finding content)
2. it keeps the game varied.
3. it would make pvp actually part of the game and not feel like a leper shunned from society.
4. it would bring more people in to pvp, which pvp severely needs.
It lacks fun, and body length
no duels or arena, deathmatches just break the deal for me… conquest mode isnt a bad idea but the map designs aren just horrendous, Arathi Basin is simple yet brilliant, you can see how the match progresses in almost any point-hold, unlike GW2 where the maps are cluttered with objects and buildings and trees and you really cant see anything.. its so claustrophobic.

I purchased this game strictly for the “standalone PvP”. I was under the impression that this mode would be supported separate from other modes and would have rigorous development post launch to ensure that A) the game was fun and b) the game was progressing toward the esport scene. Boy, where I got those ideas from I may never know because that is most surely not what I purchased.
(edited by felivear.1536)
In all honesty, the game is progressing in the right direction, however slowly. Like most, I thought alot of features would be in by now, but I believe they are coming. Whether the player base will stick around or come back is questionable, but in 12 months from now I think the core features needed will have been implemented.
The sPvP dev team love this game more than most. They are the ones that built what we have from the ground up and don’t have those jobs because they are slackers. They are very likely understaffed and hamstrung on resources, and sticking to the “when it’s ready” isn’t helping them.
For example the leaderboards and custom servers. Just release them in thier current state and let us know they are in a state of flux and not finished. We will test them for you and provide feedback for polishing. Your customer base is your test bed and that’s fine. Holding onto them until you think they are perfect is slowing growth of the game and in all likelihood decreasing the already small player base.
7 months have passed, and only I have the feeling that they do not care at all?

Commercials, they tricked me2.
Atleast i got something good for my money.
For my money (i preordered in EU at first day and it was around 65 euros) I’ve got additional experience:
Never trust Anet, they lied to us (over 7 months), they are lying now. Why would a liar suddenly stopped lying, im not gona believe. They killed PvP and they dont care.
