Finally making a Mesmer to learn to counter them
i have 80 mesmer. daze/stun(mantra daze and signet stun). i didn’t complain a thing when i play mesmer in pve, wvw, spvp. i thought this game is very balanced without many bugs.(but some traits didnt work at all). and i was very strong. i could kill anyone in spvp. i did 2 secs daze 3 times and stun 1 time. people couldnt even deal enough damage to me. and i got bored because my mesmer build was too simple but i didn’t want to try other build because i played mesmer in wvw, pve, pvp everywhere. so i made necromancer. i complained too much in forum and game. even people kicked me for being necromancer before playing tournament.

Take a deep breath, we’ll get through this together. Now, let’s see if we can figure this out….what?
I think he’s trying to say Mesmer is EZ-mode and that you can effectively stunlock someone. Which is true, if they’re dumb and they let you.
Signet of Domination gives you a two second stun and Mantra of Distraction will let you daze someone three times (traited) for one second each. So you can lock someone up for five seconds assuming they’re too stupid to use a stun break/stability.
Of course, assuming someone DOES use stability, you can just steal it from them…
You won’t really be able to learn how to counter a Mesmer by playing as one. There are SO many different and effective builds that you’d have to play one for days/weeks straight to learn all the fun and different ways Mesmers have to ruin your day.
This is worse than I had originally envisioned. Hmmmm, I may be in for the long haul to learn the nuances of these deviants. I may have to go full undercover, 21 Jump Street Style…

The most common (at least the build I see the most) is the greatsword/sword and pistol build that just spams endless illusions at you. It’s pretty annoying and it’s difficult to counter because the Mesmer just spawns illusions as fast as you kill them and if you do manage to get near the Mesmer they’ll usually just disappear or teleport away. Then you have to spend a couple seconds picking out which one of the four Mesmers is the real one again… It can be pretty infuriating.
The other build I seem to run into a lot is the staff/whatever build which is also incredibly annoying and highly mobile. Pain in the rear!
To be honest you’ll probably learn more about mesmer weaknesses by playing some pve, dungeons and big dynamic events in particular.
i think you dont need to know all traits/builds… but most common weapons are a must, look at staff, greatsword, sword+pistol, sword+sword and learn what they can do it will be much easier for you to play against them + utilities and elites ofc, mainly Feedback imo, thats noobkiller

Cool story bro. Ahahaha, you actually have no idea how to play the class, and are just bullkitten OP, who actually bought it.
1. You can’t use Mantra of Distraction 3 times in one 5 second interval.
Scenario you described means the mesmer has utilities: Domination Signet, Mantra of Distraction, Arcane Thievery. Also mesmer spent grandmaster trait on mantra trait and now has 1 mantra. You would have 0 stunbreaker utilities. Enjoy getting gibbed by most melee builds.
Seriously… go play this “massively OP stun-lock build” and stream it, so we can all have a great time.
and forice is clueless player, can’t be even bothered to learn his own abilities (it doesn’t daze for 2 sec).

felivear, You are the first person I have ever seen on the Gw2 forums who would play the class for the mere purpose of trying to understand them rather than to complain about something in which they do not fully understand how to counter. For that I applaud you.

while using sword/sword sword/pistol with MoD(mantra of distraction) and SoD(Signet of domination), you can Mod(1s), SoD(2s), pistol skill 5(2s), switch weapons, MoD(1s), sword skill 4(1s). That would be the combo you would do get the 5 second stun/daze, this only works if none of them are dodged of course. But i also could be wrong because i did this off the top of my head, and its very impractical anyways.

Its not hard to see the real mesmer as much as people like to use it as a defense. That doesnt make you win at all.
What really works is not playing an underpowered class. I made an engi and i do 2k crits by just looking at a mesmer all while having double the hp as before. (ele)
Balance is so out of whack.
in the chaos of battle keeping track of the real mesmer can be difficult, not to mention most of their abilities look similar to one another. excepting their big flashy spells of course. i’ve started one up myself just so I can get a better handle on what they are capable of and what to look out for.
@ManCaptain
Yes, because I clearly stated that you can consecutively chain the abilities together. Oh, wait… Your reading comprehension needs some work, because I simply stated that you could lock someone up for five seconds. Meaning they wouldn’t be able to retaliate for the duration.
Second, I didn’t say it was a good idea, I just said it was possible and pointed out that Mesmers have the ability to steal boons too.
Just because YOU don’t understand English doesn’t mean I don’t understand the Mesmer class. Thanks for playing though,.
I just played a ton of PvP and I’m getting the mesmer counter down well with thieves, anyways. Yesterday I was in a 3v3 match, enemy team all mesmers my team 2 thieves and a ranger. I successfully 1v2’d two mesmers on a node, all it took was about 3 cluster bombs and a not glass cannon build (I had 20k hp, and numerous ways to regen it) I suppose if the mesmers were not illusion builds it woulda been harder, but against that particular playstyle it only took a few AoE spells.
At least there are people playing this game who actually take the effort to learn how to counter a class rather than cry for nerfs… I was beginning to think they didn’t exist.
I personally have no issues with Mesmers right now, and I’m an engineer.
A stupid Mesmer moves around and is easily distinguishable from his clones, while a stationary Mesmer is open to my AoEs.
Although stationary Mesmers are harder to beat, given an even playing field I can normally still beat them.
Grenade Kit and Flamethrower Kit work like a charm here.
I have problems with only one mesmer build in particular… and thats the illusions builds, they do to much dmg i cant counter that… the only thing that the mesmer have to do is run/invi let the illusions do all the work for you…
Ah, yeah… that build gives me issues too.
I view it as an exploit, as there’s not really anything you can do to counter it. If you waste time killing them, you get picked off by the Mesmer.
If you waste time trying to kill the Mesmer, you get picked off by its illusions.
This build is quite unfair and turns a 1v1 into a 5v1 very quickly.

The class is designed to function in that manner. That’s not an exploit.
instead of playing mesmers just glance at their skills. know they can blow up their images, and know that their images dont move like real people. really don’t understand why all these people cry mesmer op – i don’t believe they’re the easiest class to play either. ah, for the record i’ve never played a mesmer but my brother does and ive watched him play once or twice
at least op is trying to learn though, so one step ahead of the rest.

Yeah grenade engis are crazy strong against Mesmers of pretty much any spec because of their crazy aoe and their high damage in general. Shortbow thieves are also good, for similar reasons. Only way I’ve found to take them down regularly is a confusion build and even that is iffy without reliable shatters.

I see this kind of big talk in every games pvp section and it is always the same argument that goes something like this :
“it is soooo easy to see when class X is about to do skill Z because whenever they are about to do it their little pinky finger glows for 2 seconds it is sooo simple”
well yeah there are tells but then the real world situation hits those very same people that talk like this in forums……Battle
Your in a fight it is 8v8 or 5v5 you are dancing around 3 classes that primed you now dont be a idiot just take the time to study the movements of those mesmers and illusions and you will be fine okay and when you noticed go kill him …
Oops got killed right when i noticed what i think was the real mcoy, darn
Or for instance you have a ranger priming you , just the ranger and you know this ranger will pop his elite snare on you whenever he can. You can avoid the snare and you pay close attention to that one arm that will be lifted just a bit while the elite is casted … You dodge guardian , ninja yourself past a warrior keeping a eye on that ranger and …
..4 illusions kill you in the meantime because you simply could not find the time to single out the real mesmer. such bad players pfff cant even single out a real mesmer lol i go poast in forum how eazy it weally iszz pfff lol.
Followed by the post as seen in here:
just look at their movememt its so easy doooh
Theory pvp in forums singling out single skills and tells acting all superior and skilled…
.. that is easy.

I lolled.
Perhaps you should learn the difference between a clone and a phantasm? Clones look like the Mesmer and don’t do damage. Phantasms hurt but look nothing like the Mesmer. Sorry but a Mesmer can’t hide behind his illusions and do loads of damage at the same time because he needs two different types of illusions for that.
Edit:
Oh and we can only have 3 illusions at a time btw.
