I’m not sure if this has become a recent problem because of new changes to the game or because people are more competitive in matches now but logging to character select to avoid respawn times is an unfair advantage and should be fixed.

It is really simple if you have a fast computer. You go to character select as soon as you go down and know you will not be rezzed, log back on the same character if you wish and youre back in the game as soon as you load with no respawn timer and no bleeding out if youre off node. This makes it impossible to punish or snowball a lead after getting kills because players can get back to their team much faster. It is obviously not possible in tournament matches so why would it be ok in ranked? I understand swapping classes in the middle of a match is a thing that doesn’t exist in tournaments but I think that is fine; as long as there is some punishment for gaining another advantage.

Easy fix to this would be whenever someone loads into a ranked/unranked match (not a hot join) that has already started put them on respawn. This wouldn’t stop people from preventing bleed outs but it will atleast minimize the incentive to do it and it would also make swapping classes a risk reward choice as well.

I’m not going to call out anyone but I know a lot of people have started doing this in the higher tier matches because they will do anything to prevent losing rating. It personally feels terrible when I see someone log out after I win a 1v1 and they are back in the team fight as soon as I can rotate in after capping the side node I killed them at.

Fascinating. This is super weird; it’s obviously a bug but it’s something that can be worked further into.

Should players be locked into the class they entered the match with?
Should they be able to re-select their character between respawns like you’d be able to in most other class-based games, if swapping classes mid-match is intended?

I suppose one way to fix it is to only allow logging out to character select while in each team’s respawn area. Or the more rigid solution: after a certain point in the game (or at the very start), no logging out to character select or swap at all (but this may not prevent early game abuse).

just make it impossible to swap toon if your character is down or have taken damage/combat. there its easy now its up to dev to code it.

My plan is to set the respawn time to default (15 seconds) plus the maximum amount of bleed time they could have suffered on disconnect. This should be the most fair for everyone. If you accidentally d/c, then you want to get back in as soon as possible.

If there is respawn time left on reconnect, the player will be killed.

I use class swapping to get my class dailies (i.e. the ones that give the exotic PvP daily chests). If you fix class swapping, can you also remove those dailies and replace them with something else?

No, because those are intended for you to actually use those classes to win, instead of swapping in at the last minute and not having actually played on them at all. This is a bullkitten tactic, and ideally would give you negative progress on your PvP reward tracks.

perhaps make the 5th sudoko i mean seppuku skill unique for each profession ?

warrior – rip their guts out with their bare hands, spilling guts blood everywhere, slippery blood knocking down people nearby

guardian – explodes self into blue energy, pulsing light field and healing nearby allies

ranger – explodes self into healing spring, pulsing water field, healing nearby allies

thief – chokes self to death with black powder, causing a blackpowder blind field nearby for a short duration

elementalist – explodes self into freezing mist, pulsing ice field, chilling people nearby

engineer – blows self up, launching people nearby

necromancer – explodes self into poison cloud, pulsing poison field, poisoning nearby foes

mesmer – explodes self into purple energy, pulsing chaos field, applying random conditions

revenant – explodes implodes self into mist energy, pulling nearby foes

well we could have them elite specs have even more special finishers but let’s just dream with the basic 8 or 9 professions first eh ?

That’s a great idea that’s worth lookin into!Problem is proving someone who intentionally throws matches is very hard to deceifer between playing bad and throwing.But certainly I’ve seen numerous people do it in all tiers of play and it’s a problem that exists in all games.Only way is to check the top 10s chat logs or something which is probably a lot of work for the devs

But bleeding someone out is a risk reward strategy that can be punished by someone rezzing, were not trying to make it fair by giving everyone the ability to unbleed themselves, we just dont want people to be able to do it at all. So /gg or anything like it will never be in pvp

It may be a valid tactic with risks involved, but it’s still incredibly unfun to be kept out of the game for the time it takes to bleed out + respawn + rotate back into the action. Most of us queue up because we actually want to play the game. If /sudoku isn’t an option, I think a solution involving some combination of changes to downed health degeneration and the respawn timer needs to be implemented to prevent players from being kept out of the game for extended periods of time.

Its not supposed to be fun when you die. And the respawn time is a reward for the other team for being able to kill you. Its fine as it is, and bypassing it does nothing but show you are a salty player and can’t bear the thought that someone could have possibly killed you

All I see here is you asking for a repreive for bad play. You should be bleeding out fully rarely. The time you are out of the action is a reward to the other team for killing you.

This tactics are counter intuitive for the majority.
For the ones who know about it, it just adds forther snowball potential, the game doesnt lack that.
Also there is not much risk/reward play going on – the vast majority of times:
-stomper is healthy enough that he can 100% stomp/cleave even if rezzer comes
-stomper is soo low he would 100% die himself – but help simply cannot come in time
-rare occasions where sneaky rezzer comes from 2000 range + downed body has avoidance ready + stomper doesnt have stability etc…
-the majority of the “whoa” rezzes are just power rezzes on 2nd attempt, nothing really spectacular

Also consider this:
-a steady 4v5 snowball is boring to watch, yet it can win you whole match
- a big 3-man wipe CAN result in only 2-1 or 2-0 cap, because you will have equal 5v5 fight in 30seconds

So i ask you, what is better for game
- more action, more equal pushes
- players retreating and standing still waiting, like seen in Overwatch?

Can you please not implement this until you fix the getting stuck into wall bugs?

How is it fair that your buggy game forces people to get stuck into a wall, and then punish them again if they try to log out and escape?

Second this, came to comment on this thread exactly about this. The respawn fix will hurt when you need to relog due to being stuck on walls. Not that it happens frequently but should be looked into to be fixed as well.

Seppuku, Sudoku is a numbers game. But I agree, I would like that as downed skill 5 for death. Using it would do your own finisher on you.
