It’s not fair that teams sometimes end up 4v5, but I also don’t think it’s fair to make someone else suffer, by forcing them into observer mode if an enemy player is D/Ced.
Imagine playing, then all of a sudden you get a message telling you that you’re not allowed to play because someone on the enemy team D/Ced. It would be a better idea to try and help the outnumbered team in a different way. Perhaps a small buff that they get if their team is outnumbered, like in WvW.

So your saying it’s fair to be unfair sometimes? Maybe you aren’t really saying this but It is not good enough. The buff will bring another element of unevenness to the game because how much ’buff" is enough to satisfy both teams? Make the buff too small then it is still not enough to really help then why bother at all? make the buff too big then the other team complains. So how much is enough? Anet will never be able to get that right. I know people will complain either way.
And again you are saying it is better for the majority to suffer? They should implement it as the “auto balance” feature and allow someone to be able to volunteer. You get all the rewards and get to watch the game, maybe allow these observers a feature to quickly rate people’s gameplay to assist with MM (match making), something to make them want to actually watch and feel useful at the same time, maybe something equal to this, but I need something where I may feel that a one on one battle might be worth trying even when I am on the full team or not be overconfident with my buff vs 2…. Maybe a tag team type of thing where the one on the sidelines gets to be randomed back into the match every few minutes, replacing another one or replacing someone on the team after they die 3 times, resetting after this has happened?
I want evenness all round and there is a way to achieve that. Have equal amounts of people on each team.

You don’t lose pips if a player has disconnected for more than 2 minutes in a ranked game, which is a decent consolation. The games are also relatively short (i.e., not 30 minutes) so you aren’t losing that much time.
I can’t really see a way of balancing the game around a 4v5 that would be fair to the team of 5. It’s not their fault that the person disconnected.
… I would say that the bigger issue is people intentionally AFKing in game to avoid “disconnecting” but also don’t contribute to the game.

I actually like the idea of forcing in observer mode. We can settle this the old way: my best player, against your best player. Winner brings victory to the team.
