Imagine for one second that Anet put some money into PvP and gathered some devs to make a deathmatch/arena mode. The mode is similar to wow’s: you have 2v2, 3v3 and 5v5 brackets in a small circular map where you have to fight to death. The only elements in the map are a few pillars to hide. Downed state is ON.

Also imagine that bunkers are balanced, and a 2x bunker team is not invincible.

  • What classes/specs would you play in your 2v2 team ?

Id play staff ele + thief.
As a staff ele I would play a supportive build. My role would be to CC, knockback, heal and cleanse.
I would also run this trait to buff fury with the frost field + blast combo.
If we were low HP we would pop the big water fields and blast them for extra healing.

What about you? Which classes would you play?

This + some real leaderboards/ranking system would be perfect to really let this game take off as an e-sport. I just can’t understand why they won’t support DM. Imagine it with the downed mechanic and all the layers of tactics and team comps.

I would prob play an offensive Guardian or maybe an Elementailist, to tired to theorycraft tho, might to that tomorrow

I think we will start to see deathmatch as a sub-gametype soon though with custom games, kind of like how ARAM got started in LoL -there will probably be “deathmatch” rooms where ppl just go spirit watch or forest and fight right out of the spawn. Similar to how dueling rooms work right now in hotjoins, this will just give the players more control (plus if admins get power to change values of point distributions on Kills + Nodes that could be really interesting, don’t think we’ll see it on release, but definitely something for anet to consider).

its a shame they only have conquest. id do ranked 5v5 tdm 24/7 and never touch another aspect of this game again if it was ever implemented.

Yes pls…. gimme that kitten custom arena….I have waited for it since the first beta, so at this point its almost A YEAR!
At least with CA, even if devs dont understand what ppl want, we will be able to get what we want by ourselves.
I just hope there will be enough parameters to set on that mode, specially cause it will require $$ to get access to it. (note: its not official news but considering that “custom arena item” on the cash shop thats not hard to guess), this might be the first time i might really want to buy gems…

back on topic…. I think 2x D/D ele could outrun and outheal any other comp. If they play with good coordination they can just refill their hp with skill 5 water, they can stack up 20staks of might with ring of fire + blasts, one can churning earth while the other stunlock down a target…. So many cool stuff with a good synchro.

Or another uncommon idea could be Engi and cleric necro…….. now many would wonder why the hell to run a cleric necro :p

Death match is something many players have demanded since release. There are a ton of problem that come hand in hand with that game type though.
The biggest one I could think of, which has been mentioned here as well are elite skills.
Elite skills in gw2 are plain TERRIBLY designed. They give a huge benefit with a massive cd.
there is no reason why a necromancer shouldn‘t pop plaque within the first second of the fight, leaving enemies perma blinded and poisoned for 20 seconds. Same goes for any other elite. (guardian tomes, moa etc)
Secondly rewards for dm are worse than capture maps.

Solution: Redesign Elite-skills or disable them in dm, have consecutive wins with increasing rewards (that would be cool)

and thats the reason why its OP in Conquest and not in Deathmatch… you can just run away and wait till his elite ends without losing a point but yes, they could be a problem overall…
