GW1 PvP was far superior in terms of gamemodes + gvg had a ladder from start till now its still running = http://guildwars.com/competitive/ladder/
lately i started to believe that ArenaNet was under pressure of NcSoft to relase the game. Its the only possible explanation because they know how to do competitive game.. so i dont get how they can serve us something that is like 20% done.. and relase it..

Actually they stated they are focusing on only one game mode(and I must say that it was quite a poor choice), because they wanted(and perhaps still do) to make this game an e-sport. Also, I guess half of the team has changed since then, if not even more, so that also explains a few things.
People… people… put down the purple glasses.
Yeah gw1 might be succesfull. BUT WHY isnt it anymore? Because it had too many PvP modis, the ppl split off and the competitive pvp died.
But this is a other game, you can GW2 match with WoW and other games. People realise Gw1 and Gw2 are COMPLETLY diffrent games.
Just for your information Gw1 was a totally other genre, COPVP and GW2 is a MMORPG.
1 PvP modus might be the right choice, we’ll see. Other games in the Internet proofed that.
But Anet did it wrong with the tournamentsystem. First it looks like a genius idea but its awfull. But they cant say: LOL WE SUCKED KK WE REMOVE IT. That would obvly ruin it more.
The worst Thing atm is Anet philosophie. Good was they showed themself to the community and we could interact A LITTLE BIT witht them. Coinciedent they made themself to the scapegoat (great idea of the management if u wanna get rid of some employe). But EVERYTIME they say:
WE
WONT
MAKE
EMPTY
PROMISSES!
But hey what was the PvPblog? What was with the dezember update? What was with the BIG JANUAR SPVP/openPVPupdate? (its the “a small update”)
meh whatever i’m just mad that anet isnt that what all gw1 player promised.

Too many mods can split the community, that I agree with. But it wasn’t the case with GW1. Not all of the mods were played equally, but all of them had respectable amount of players, and some were just outstandingly popular. You got bored of RA? You can always find a good guild and try out some GvG, or you can hop into faction battles, or do something else, really. There were so many options, and all of them were great!
Also, I don’t find only one game mod to be core of the problem. DotA had only one game mode, CS had only one game mode(talking about competitive scene here), and those games are still hugely popular(well, it’s DotA 2 now, isn’t it). The problem is they’ve chosen one of the most boring game mods to play, and to watch. People are looking for combat, combat tactics, and so on, which would include large variety of builds, instead of just extremes, like bunker and burst.
Look at WvWvW. I’ve seen people playing it in small groups of 5-6 players, just because they want normal, common combat, nothing more, nothing less. Include some objectives and secondary mechanics, and voila. You’ve just made a perfect pvp mode for large masses. It’s interesting to watch, there are much more builds that can be utilized there, and whatnot. Kill the Lord would also be very popular.
My ex guild leader was proposing to us to just transfer to WvWvW guild, going in small groups, because it’s much more enjoyable experience than current sPvP. There are many other teams that did this. If you’ve watched TP streams, you could see they were playing WvWvW whenever they could, or at least Teldo did. Most of the time when I was watching his stream, he was in a small group running across the WvWvW map, instead of playing tournaments.
So, this game clearly has potential, but it’s not using it to full extent because its main, and only game mode does not allow it to.
GW1 is proving to be much better than GW2 in every aspect atm.
Fort Aspenwood/ Jade Quarry is something that needs to be recreated in gw2. Not only were they both good objective based modes, they required a surprising amount of strategy and teamwork, while being very causal friendly. If Anet wanted to draw in new blood to pvp, providing something like this would be good because the focus would be mainly on the npc’s, giving new players time to acclimate to combat against other people.
Plus Jade Quarry would get all those LoL people to hush it.
Take a look how sexy Hall of Heros was
Hall of Heroes is lit by an unearthly glow at its center. In 851 AE, Lord Odran opened various portals into the Rift and to the Hall of Heroes and hid them in the most dangerous places, behind various traps and wards. However, with his death, the wards disappeared and soon the Hall of Heroes became a battle of honor among the living. There are only three portals that are known: in the Tomb of Drascir, Tomb of the Primeval Kings, and on the Battle Isles.
The Hall of Heroes acts as the fourth and final area of the Ruins of the Tomb of the Primeval Kings. It houses statues of the Gods of Tyria and is besieged by the three Darknesses. Upon killing all of three of the Darknesses, several Lost Souls will cheer the victory and fireworks will appear followed by a countdown timer, which sends players back to the Tomb of the Primeval Kings.
Good old times………miss HA so much
GW1 died when they stopped organising wold championships, GW2 doesnt have them either
